- In 1958, General Motors graced the world with the "more is more" look and the result is intoxicating. This sparkling and spellbinder Super 88 by Oldsmobile proves it. Behold the glory of every delightful detail of this ultra-fine example at the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum in Michigan ... so sit back and enjoy the JOYRIDE!!! ...
This Oldsmobile is stunning!!!! 1958 was the pinnacle of General Motors use of chrome ON EVERYTHING!!!! This beautiful Oldsmobile looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor!!!! I Know!!!!! 👍👍🙂
"I know, where do we begin...behold the glory"!
My family had a '58 Buick Special 4-door sedan from 1958 to 1966, so I know what you mean! 😁
especially the 1958 Pontiac Bonneville interior chrome :)
Beyond gorgeous, Charles! But don't you wish they had let you take it outside and drive it s-l-o-w-l-y past some beautiful mid-century architecture so the viewers could drink in every imposing inch of its dazzling jet-age majesty?
The reverence exhibited in your voice... it's more than admiration, more than awe, this narration of the New for 1958 Oldsmobile 88 is a chrome festooned masterpiece! Behold The Glory.
My parents (before I was born) had a '55 Olds 88. My mom would tell me that "that thing would GO!"
IN 1966 I OWNED ONE OF THESE SUPR 88 OLDSMOBILE. I WISH I HAD IT TODAY.
Stunning video as usual. I cannot wait for the next one. Love the channel and it's glorious master.
So. Much. Chrome. Fabulousness at its finest!!!
Colors! Why can't cars come in colors today? If a little bit of chrome is good, way too much is even better.
Because this latest generation of car buyers (computer geeks, dweebs, weirdos etc.) have no taste nor imagination.
I’m only 53, I often wish I was of my parents or grandparents generations to live in a world With cars like this.
A work of art! 💙 " I Know " 😊
Wow! Beautiful looking car! IMHO, it's the best looking car in GM's line of cars.
I purchased a 58 olds about 6 yrs ago it is an absolute awesome car, fun to drive mine is what they called Sterling Grey, I absolutely love the blue on this one, the late 50's cars were works of art
This my favorite of late 50's Oldsmobile design. At first glance I thought this was a 2 door hard top. It's clever styling makes you think that's the case especially with the dip the front door makes before the rise of the rear door. All in all Olds outdid themselves this year. A real work of art.
so cool…❤️ we need more of these reviews! love your passion for these cars.. you’re the best Charles
Mr. B. Here ! I wish my 1958 Super 88 looked 👀👀 like that ! It does have all OEM equipment ! If it were a Chevy it would have move along ! 🧰🪛🛠️ 🍸🍸👍👍
Beautiful! I love how they put the peak like on the front of the hood on the '58 Olds. The front and rear is pure art.
very cool museum. love their hudson and transmission displays
Great car! Many people think that 1958 was the most outrageous year for styling in automotive history, and that GM was the most outrageous company making cars that year. Can't argue with that. I was born in 1958, and I look pretty outrageous! (That means odd.) LOL!
This Gentlemans voice is legendary.I already love the card but he takes it to the next level.
Doesn't he? 😉 I know..! 😄👍💖
Found one of your "Joyride " videos , and although I was at first a little put off by your particular brand of "Delivery" , I was soon won over by the obvious, sincere honesty of your enthusiasm . I subscribed , and have been binge watching ever since .As a 5o's car nut who was sure I understood everything about my passion ,I have to admit to a whole new level of appreciation . Thanks for the new perspective on Color ,texture ,Chrome , paint , body sculpting and brand presentation as seen from the eye of an artist .
MY FIRST CAR THAT I OWED WAS A1958 OLDSMOBILE . I WAS 19 YEARS OLD AND IF I COULD AFFORD ONE NOW I WOULD BE BURIED IN IT.
My parents honeymooned in Miami in my father's 1958 Olds Super 88 coupe.....it was LAVENDER with a white top and matching interior. It was absolutely hideous....and utterly magnificent!!!
Charles, if you are really quiet maybe you can sneak this one out the back door for a test drive. I know!
Beautiful Car and I love the 4 Doors ❤
'58 Olds, treble clef included at no extra cost.
One of the more engaging interior color patterns in that era
I recently bought a house. It was abandoned for a while. So the weeds in the yard are over 6 foot tall. Today. I uncovered one of these beauties in the back yard. Trying to decide if I want to restore it or just sell it. But I could see myself tooling around town in one of these. lol.
OMG! What a FIND!! For goodness sake, KEEP IT!! 😉👍
Belongs in Palm Springs.
Beautiful automobile!
I bought 2 58 Chevy Bel Air sedans in Dec 2017 for $3k delivered to my house by a local guy. I restored the better one in 2018/2019. Frame off. Painted in my garage with Neptune Blue Metallic "Firemist" and Arctic white 2 tone. Dropped a 1968 396 BBC w/ 700 r4 in it with a custom slip style driveshaft to eliminate the problem with the factory center bushing. I bought it becasue its like a piece of jewelry with all the chrome and stainless trim. I LOVE the front end styling. i repaired and polished all the SS myself over many hours. It is a work of art visually!! I put about 20k into the restoration total doing everything but the driveshaft and dual exhaust myself. I can just stare at it and be happy. :)
Beautiful video -- and not just the car. The timbre and passion in the voice lets me know this is an appreciated work of art. I immediately subscribed... I need to be there when he does a 1957 Studebaker Skyhawk or Chrysler 300 or BelAir. But I better not catch an episode on a Cord or something equally impressive--- he might have a stroke! Good work buddy.
Thank you very much!
Looks suspiciously like a Buick and Chevrolet of that year. I knoooww
What year did Oldsmobile stop placing the picture of the globe on the hood of their cars? 1958?
Kinda phased it out post-56.
Is nice car old.
It seems to be missing dual exhaust. The exterior paint and chrome is beautiful and impressive. I like that the dash is stock and in good repair. I really like to see these upscale classics sporting power windows, seats, and brakes. I know A/C was prohibitively expensive but if it was an option it was the cherry on the sundae.
My dad had one of these. Similar colour, other than the blue was darker. Gas station attendants were always confused where to fill it up. It was the size of a minivan and was my dad’s baby. He’d spend an entire day waxing it and polishing the chrome.
Shocking tail lights!!
Shocking reverse lights as well -four count `em four!
Just Fabulous
I be blinded by chromium! 😵💫
Nice 😊
I want to see a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville with the rocket ship on the side of it on your channel.
hollyshit , what a bluuuuue beeaaauuty !
i need more money !!!
Absolutely gorgeous, love everything about this car, the tail lamps are so other worldly.
Why can't designers imagine cars like these anymore?
Today's generation has no imagination.
this is ,, the king of chrom,, !
you know !!!???
OMG those tail lights are so breathtaking 💕
Love those cars
The car has a strange grimess on the face.
Charles, If you saw GRIN of a child that would be ME as a 12 year old when I beheld the glory of beauty of automobiles and wanted to be a stylist. I collected hub caps & emblems, books etc. covering the subject. Olds Rocket 88's were among my favorite autos. Back when cars had individuality! Thanks AGAIN Charles! I can't blame you for 1:23. LOL!
Beautiful car
There’s a 98 Holiday coupe, for Sale! In Heather/White!!
Where is it for sale?
I have one for sale
Glorious car!
I knoooowww!
If only they hadn’t scrimped on the Crome and gone all in.
Might have been a sales leader for 58.
They did however name badge it fairly well.
Stunning. Thanks for the view. So much chrome you gotta wear shades.😎
Hey Charles, we love the same cars! We prefer General Motors product we are are a sucker fer late fifties, early sixties product produced by the big three.
Charles, you might want to inquire about the usual meaning of "all-new" in referring to cars and model years.
your hushed voice makes it all feel quite naughty somehow
Love it, such a gorgeous car! Wish you had spent a bit more time showing the steering wheel and control panel.
It`s a master piece.
Sounds more like Charles needed to speak softly for a reason. Chrome everywhere.
The original Chrome-mobile!
I loved Oldsmobile!!! 😊😊
Dear Charles, I'm so sick of the '58 Olds (and Buick) HATE! Could never figure out why cars I thought were beautiful all the "buff books" called "ugly". Thank you for showing the world how gloriously artistic these cars really are! Thank you for seeing what others cannot see.
Smithers?!?!
Are u famous?
Wow. Im the first to view!
You're second ya nimrod!
