- A downsized version of my Pheasant Rump Crawfish pattern - simplified and easier to tie, and cast-able on a 4wt for some light tackle warmwater pursuits.
The fly is tied with nothing more than Pheasant Feathers, and you can find the Material/Hooks/Thread ect... at my website: www.streamersbygunnar.com/phe...
Materials:
Hook: Ahrex 90 Degree Jig Hook, size 4
Bead: 5/32" (4mm) Faceted Slotted Tungsten Bead
Antenna: Pheasant Tail
Claws: Pheasant Rump
Legs: 3x-4x Palmered Pheasant Rump - going from long (hook point) to short (hook eye)
Carapace: Shingled Shoulder Feathers
Thread: .008" (2mm) Veevus Mono
Very nice pattern! Easy tying, very effective and killer action in the water! I caught pike, bass, perch, sunfish and white perch with it! Many thanks for the video. I will always need a pheasant cape in my staple from now on.
Just dried my first pheasant skin and this gave me a great pattern to try the feathers out on! Great fly and super informative, thanks!
Love the warblers in the background! MAGNOLIA, BLACK AND WHITE, NASHVILLE, KENTUCKY WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, WILSON'S lol..awesome fly too!
What a dope pattern! I have a pheasant cape sitting under borax right now and this is going to be the first fly I tie with it.
Very creative, nice tie, thanks for sharing.
Another great pattern to throw, going to tie these for sure.Another nice piece of engineering, well done.
Gunnar I just tied one of these up and headed to the dock with my 4 wt and a 4x leader jigging day it because there was to much wind. My hope was to pickup a largemouth or a rock bass but ended up hooking a from my best guess a 20 lb carp. I knew they hung out by the docks but never suspected I would actually hook one. Unfortunately Mr. Carp won the battle. It was 25 minutes of total excitement once I realized what was kicking my butt. It broke off when a passerby tried to net it otherwise there would be pictures. Thanks
Muy buena !!
Simple and beautifull. Love the bird sounds ☺
Gunnar,
Tied up your series of pheasant flies and they have been tearing up the local stream. Looking forward to bass fishing in Lake of the Woods now travel restrictions lifted next week. These are my go to flies for the season. Pike and walleye eat them up.
Nice pattern there dude. Thanks for another one. Keep keeping safe.
Mr Brammer.. Your getting dangerously close to my crayfish pattern that slays for every person I pass one too... Down side.. They all want more lol..
Wow great craw Gunnar
Another good tie buddy. Keep the good stuff coming.
I know some carp that would hoover one of these right up! Cool series Gunnar!
Nice job! Love your hat and sweatshirt by the way!
You kind of got a little addicted to those pheasant feathered flies, which was go for me because I have had a whole pheasant skin laying around and not sure what exactly to do with it. Thank you for sharing.
Fishy little fly. Love the pheasant bugs you do. I'm going to half to order some from you. Everything I've got is to short.
Beautiful pattern as always! Might tie a few and try them on monday!
instablaster.
Another winner, 👊👊!
Are you fishing these on a sinking line or floating line with long leader?
Doesn’t get much simpler , one bird lots of flies :-)
Do you have an updated link to your store for materials? The link above says page not found. Thanks.
Gunner what bobbin is that with the super long steel tube?
Dude I know this is late but I thought I was one of the only people named Gunnar this just makes me feel weird seeing someone else with the name
Awesome! My most used rod is a 4wt. What's your leader configuration and size tippet for tossing those pheasant "bugs"? Isn't it amazing how those cock feather colors match the water color types, and the birds are delicious! The carcass makes the best broth or stock you've ever tasted! So glad you made friends with the pheasant ;o) Thanks Gunnar!
