Great fly! Cable tie idea was fun! I use/lose a lot of crayfish flies, always looking for a quicker, easier, fewer materials fly patterns. I recently got rid of the meta, and rattles, started using 1 red glass bead for the weight, makes awesome sound when bumped against rocks! Available at any craft store and very cheap. Now use 40 pound Fluoracarbon line melted into eyes! Light weight, cheap, very realistic. Thanks for a different method!
Don't have Signal Crayfish in our club water yet but thry are spreading steadily in South Wales. So I will have to tie a few of these in readiness. Great tying.
Tim, great pattern! I almost bought those hooks, also the mold, because it made light weight jigs with a medium size hook. You made an incredible fly with great movement, genius! Thanks, that has to be the most natural looking craw I've even seen. 👍😎
What a great tie! Can't wait to try these on the smallies of our camp pond. You sure are getting plenty of usage out of those CDL and Brahma pelts. Keep up the inspiring work!
Nice fly! I like to see patterns such as this one that can pull double duty for cold and warm water species. Can't wait to give this one a try, once the craws become active again in my area. Thanks for sharing this unique and interesting pattern.
Main feature of Crays is their mode of swimming. If you are using an active retrieve they look like minnows with a hitch in their steps. I think Gary Borger has the best fly for that. But for pick-ups this kind of fly looks worth a try.
Very ingenious pattern! I'll have to get a lot of stuff i don't have to make this one exactly as you did but i really look forward to that day. Maybe i can do some substituting either way a really cool pattern.
Thats one good looking fly I might maybe tie them in smaller sizes on euro jig hooks for trout and panfish on a euro rig I have used small crawfish imitations for trout with very good success
Fish it more like a nymph than a streamer, on or close to the bottom with a short strip every so often followed by a longer pause. Floating line will work just fine. If you don't think the fly is dropping fast enough, add some weight to the tippet.
outdoorsman ......what i do because a lot of times i can't afford buying material from fly fishing stores , i will hit up craft stores and buy something that resembles what i need from there and make it work .....just have to look around in mad scientist mode (HA) ! I get most my material from such stores / michaels , party city and toy stores ....works for me . ok my 2 cents ....have fun !
Yeah, I have been tying for 45 years, everything from full dress salmon to saltwater, to midges. I have bin after bin of materials, but you can never keep up. I think about the only material I wouldn't have to special order is the zip tie. Once they figured out you really couldn't effectively patent or trade mark this stuff like Whitlock tried to get going, it became all about selling new materials for every pattern.
Zip tie is genius. Can prep a whole bunch ahead of time to save time. Brilliant thanks.🍻
That my friend is a cool pattern!! The cable tie is an awesome tip!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Cable tie? Very inventive. Great video, keep ‘me coming!
This video was killer. Very nice tye. Why would anyone hit the thumbs down button?

Very cool pattern, I can't wait to try it on some smallies!
I like my crays a little more impressionistic - but man that cable tie trick is cool.
DO you have a go to pattern?? I am tying flies for a trip to the Buffalo RIver in AR and getting short on time
great underwater shots
Amazing pattern. The other craw patterns I've seen look pretty mickey mouse but this one definitely has my interest. Thanks for the video.
creative use of the cable tie!

Nice pattern
I'm gonna make some of these... I got plenty of small zipties
that cable tie technique is genius, did you come up with it? I can see it working excellently for eyes on shrimps too
im not a flyfisherman but that IS a great looking crawdad fly hats off to ya from soutern nj
hello really like that fly question what are you using at the end to cut thread free of fly never seen that before.
Thats one good looking fly I might maybe tie them in smaller sizes on euro jig hooks for trout and panfish on a euro rig I have used small crawfish imitations for trout with very good success
Great pattern!! I was wondering if you could tell me the Wapsi code on the pine squirrel you used in the video?
Thanks.
clever pattern !
That would work great on the lehigh below Walter dam
Gotta try this one
Very creative! Caught any fish on it yet?
How would you fish this? Could floating line work?

nice fly. I wish I could tie it but I cant find the same soft hackle around here. The soft hackle capes I foud were 40$ a cape
