Very educational thank you. I've been involved in parrots for a long time decades even. And nesting management can be difficult for us too. Although usually we're trying to discourage nesting at any time of year. Reducing light definitely helps with a lot of our birds. Just an early bedtime late to wake up and that usually does it most of the time.

Is it giving them false starts and agitating them territorially?
... off to watch the rest of the vid to see if this aligns.

So interesting to learn. I have a 10 year old Holmes hinge back tortoise I recently adopted . She has also been acting strange ( from what I have read about them anyway) . She seems to want to brumate, but information says her species does not. I allow her to roam freely in the apartment durning the day, and recently she seems to be trying to hide in the coolest parts of the apartment. This worries me because I think it might be too cool for an African species. (65 ish degrees) .
After seeing this, I think maybe she knows better. im going to watch your video on how to hibernate tortoises .

Last summer being that he is a sneaky little Russian horsefield tortoise, he tried to escape from the front garden compound by digging into the potato patch and disguising himself as a potato in the hope of escaping. His plans with thwarted when I put the sprinkler on and flushed him out. Returning the next morning making his way over the doorstep cakes in mud looking very pleased with himself. I waterboarded in on the draining board for information with no a due, I put him under the spotlight, but he would not crack, he just retreated into his shell and watched sky sports where he plans his next escape so that he could be reunited with pedigree poo chum and his mother Russia army.
