I also played FFX and Tales of Symphonia back to back. Their stories being similar made me enjoy them and had tremendous impact on my development as a teen. They are also each my favorite entry into their respective series...
@@GamingBroductions it's starting to grow more! I can confirm as I'm new to the channel as of today, thanks to the algorithm on RUclips finally showing me channels and content creators that are totally awesome. That said, hello there! Looking forward to catching up on all I've missed here on your channel, and what's yet to come!
I played through it so many times as a kid. I don’t think I have ever played through another game that was that long that many times. What a masterpiece it is.
The Gamecube still stands as my favorite console of all time, and it's probably the reason I got into RPGs in the first place. Anyways, here's my top 10: 10. *Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II* 9. *Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life* 8. *Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness* 7. *Pokémon Colosseum* 6. *Baten Kaitos Origins* 5. *Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance* 4. *Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean* 3. *Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door* 2. *Skies of Arcadia Legends* 1. *Tales of Symphonia* Like you said, there is a pretty substantial gap in quality between some of these games, obviously I don't consider all of these games to be nearly on par with each other. The top 5 are in my opinion all masterpieces though, and should definitely be in the collection of any RPG fan.
Sounds like we have similar thoughts as usual and cool to see our top 5 is nearly the exact same. Of course everything is subjective at the end of the day, but with the gap in quality there is I feel like you would be hard pressed to find many JRPG fans that don’t have some form of those games in their top 5 for their GameCube, just with the order being switched around due to their own personal preferences. All are definite classics in the genre for sure.
Your comment at the end about games that you connect to a special period in your life that elevate them really struck a nerve. I have one such period where i spent like 3-4 nights a week at my best friend's basement over the course of a couple of years staying up all night playing games, drinking smoking etc. I was around 21-22 and we blew through a few PSX games hard. it being 2006-07. Megaman X4-X6 started our run and we 100% those games swapping controller between us. Then we hit Gran Turismo 2 and played that for like 6 months. he's since moved cross country and it is really great memory.
"By watching this video, I could confirm that my brother and I have good taste in RPGs, since we have most of the games you mentioned, like Skies of Arcadia, Lost Kingdoms, Paper Mario, Baten Kaitos 1-2, and FFCC."
Facts!!! I was about to say I better not see a damn Zelda game on this list. The Zelda series is my favorite video game series of all time, but they aren't JRPGs...
Agreed. Whenever I see Zelda games appear on a list of RPGs, I tend to take them with a grain of salt, as it puts that person’s definition of “role-playing” into question.
I'll agree with most of this list for sure, all amazing games. Personally PSO 1&2 is definitely #1 to me and Skies of Arcadia is #2 on the gamecube. But I can agree with everything else easily.
I missed out on the Gamecube alot back in the day, it was my little brother's console, while I played more on PS2. If it wasnt for the insane prices of Gamecube game, I may try hunting these down for the collection.....piracy it is.
I recently played Baten Kaitos 1&2 (remaster) and I can say they are my favorite GameCube RPGs. Their stories are reeeeeally good. Then Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario, I need to play the other ones
Games such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, 7th Saga, Earthbound, FF4, FF6, FF7, Legend of Mana, and many others come to mind! Some of the games you mentioned in your video also spring to mind for me as well, such as Tales of Symphonia, Evolution Worlds, Lost Kingdoms, and Skies of Arcadia! Great video with amazing production values and editing! What a wonderful era it was to grow up in and play these games! Thank you for allowing me to live vicariously through you and your video, so that I could once again relive those memories! :)
my brother had a gamecube and every chance i got to play custom robo i would play it. i loved that game more than any other gamecube game including melee but it’s a really close call.
Pso is #1 given the context of the time if you were ever fortunate enough to experience online or local coop but symphonia and the baten kaitos games to this day blow every other rpg out of the water for me. I found tales of arise to be shockingly good after being fairly irritated by berseria but I still don't think it takes it as far as symphonia. Would love to see an ff7 style remake of symphonia using the arise engine but with a proper HD overworld. Tales of arise started so strong I thought it was going to be perfect but when I found out Rena was just a relatively short endgame sequence I was left feeling like they simply ran out of budget, which makes sense given the groundbreaking level of production value the game has. I would have given it the title and a 10/10 if Rena was treated like te'thealla
What other games? Phantasy Star Online was the only game I needed on the GC. I have literally thousands of hours on that game....like 4-5 thousand. My main character had over 2,400 hours and I also played it on Dreamcast. I bought the GameCube and it's accessories just to play PSO. As a single player game, yeah it wasn't the greatest....but who the @#$% buy Phantasy Star ONLINE to play it offline. It was the first MMORPG for a console, and one of the best ever. The people that played made it so much better. Unlike most of the people on today's games. The game rewarded co-op play. Even mandating it for some things. LOVE that game.
@@GamingBroductions ahh thanks I’ve just received second sight and viewtful joe 1-2 I don’t know where I’m gonna find the time to play all of these 🤣🤣🤣 and bought disco Elysiam on pc yesterday giving RIMWORLD a break to intense all the bad random things happening to me🙈
Who else got emudeck running on steam deck and need ideas. ( I'm a gamecube collector and have all my games I grew up with as a kid with my console but now wanna play games I never owned.)
Damn, I regret not grabbing a use copy Of Tales of Symphonia for only 15 dollars. I thought the the game look out- dated when compared to Tales of Xilia at the time which was new.
I regret that I never played the Fire Emblem series sooner. The perma death turned me off and I had heard most people reset everytime someone died anyways. Anyhow, I installed Fire Emblem 4 onto my SNES Mini one night just cause and had a blast and then immediately went out and bought 3H (this is all literally like a year and a half ago I think?) And I now regret not playing the series sooner. PS. Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door is one of my favorite games ever
As someone that did overall enjoy MMX command mission, putting it at #10 while simultaneously admitting its mediocre and not very good is a take. Were there not other gamecube rpgs that could’ve filled that spot on the list? Lol
Custom Robo's a rpg? .....wait what???? Edit: Yea it's unfortunate, but I guess we're stuck with the "new" Paper Mario games which are..........um...........yea........
Pokemon colosseum is the prequel to gale of darkness. Also fun fact, evolution was ported to the neo Geo pocket color. So if you like gbc graphics, poor music and....yeah just play the Dreamcast. Best version imo. Not a big fan of GameCube since the N64 RPG disaster. PlayStation got many of the good franchises so I avoided it. I recently got my hand on it and GameCube is more misses than hits. Uh sunshine nightmares.
What games are you snubbing exactly because Baten Kaitos 1&2 are good,Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door is a classic and one of the best Mario games,Phantasy Star Online was a revolutionary game,Tales of Symphonia is one of the best games in that franchise, same goes with Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Skies of Arcadia isn't fetching those high prices for no reason... and that's 7 games...
Can't agree with the number 2. I tried playing it like 6 or 7 years ago and it was horrible. Slow and graphically horrible. I had to stop after 2 or 3 hours. Perhaps it was good when it came out but nowadays...not. Tales of Symphonia had the most amazing plot I ever had seen and will be my number 1 forever, but it's looks are also outdated. Baten Kaitos however is still gorgeous and I'm still hoping on HD remasters so I can play them again on switch
The video title says RPGs so it can account for both the term RPGs and JRPGs when people are searching, especially considering there are only a few WRPGs on the GameCube in the first place. And since when are action RPGs and strategy RPGs not considered JRPGs even if they were made in Japan? So you’re gonna say a series like Fire Emblem or Ys for example isn’t a JRPG? I don’t think many would agree with you there. There is no prerequisite for JRPGs strictly having to be turnbased, unless you were maybe to say the specific term ‘traditional JRPG’ but that was never the case here.
@@Red_Ranger_Wien We can agree to disagree then. I’ve always considered Fire Emblem to be a JRPG, just one that is also a strategy RPG. In my opinion JRPGs don’t have to only be turn based to qualify as a JRPG, IMO it’s more of a blanket genre encompassing various similar takes on it rather than one very strict style of gameplay with no deviations. So what is Shining Force then? That one has SRPG combat but JRPG gameplay in between combat. By your own definition it wouldn’t be entirely accurate to classify it as solely either a JRPG or SRPG.
I would consider Shining Force to be a hybrid between a JRPG and an SRPG. I also wouldn't say every JRPG is turn based but a large percentage of them are.

Tales of Symphonia is the absolute greatest game I’ve ever experienced.
It is an incredible game and story... Hands down.
I played through it so many times as a kid. I don’t think I have ever played through another game that was that long that many times. What a masterpiece it is.

Well the GameCube did not introduced me to J-RPGs but it was really a great console. Mine was black and my first game was Wave Race Blue storm

Skies of Arcadia was awesome, I remember my disc got scratched, and I didn’t get to complete it. Enjoyed it haha

If only these games could be rereleased or remastered in HD.
Nintendo coming in hot with all these remasters. Only a matter of time before other classics follow suit.
Megaman x command mission is one of my faves on the ps2. It has a really fun battle system and a pretty broken healer imo
