- Iggy's Reckin' Balls is a video game that was developed for the Nintendo 64 console by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim Entertainment in August 1998. It involves a set of ball characters with faces and unique personalities that race around a series of vertical obstacle courses in order to win medals. The characters use grappling hooks to climb to other platforms and attack other players. Power-ups are scattered throughout the 100 courses, which equip the players with temporary special abilities. Up to four players can participate. Modes of play include Arcade, Mix-up, Time Trial and Battle. There are a total of eight characters to choose from immediately, with an additional nine hidden characters that can be unlocked later. The game is named after Iggy, who is the main character. Iggy represents the developer's mascot, an iguana. Versions for Sega Saturn, Windows, and PlayStation were scrapped for unknown reasons.

I still have this from 2000. None of my friends liked it, sadly, so I played it alone all the time.
One of the funniest multi player game i ve ever played... they should do a remake...
That’s pretty much the story of this game lol
I was able to get my siblings to play a few times, but they eventually quite in frustration. Amazingly I was able to play battle mode with my friends a bit.
Your friends were lame lol this game was 🔥
@@I.AM.222
They were the 007/South Park/Duke Nukem 64 lovers.
i remember debating over yoshi's story or this game based on the artwork my brother and i went with this one. the music got me into the dance/electronic music genre..quirky game but one of my favorites
Tower 3 music was the only reason why i played this game lol
LOVE this game. Outside of track memorization it's totally skill-based, as shown by the gulf between noobs and vets. It's really, really satisfying when you get good at it and use your momentum to quickly climb large sections where you used to have to stop to readjust after every jump.
The reason the n64 is my favourite system is the extreme experimentation taken place during the Era.
I know right it was awesome and so many unusual games
@@n64glennplant the nes and n64 were full of people figuring out what gaming really meant what it could mean. And how best to do things. Sometimes they were bad like having to press select to enter a room on the Nintendo or sometimes they were pure genius like Goldeneye allowing you to shoot guns on the ground to move their spawn points. It was the wild west of gaming.
The snes and GameCube were sort of the refinement of those Era. Some experimenting going on but a lot was loss. That said I'd say they had more hits than misses.
And now... I dunno. It's all the same controls and gameplay. And as cool as games are now, I find myself going back to n64 and nes, for something that feels unique
Never heard of it until now. Looks like one of those games you have to play for yourself to fully "get it".
Just picked this up yesterday cib for $20. Pretty happy about that but I had check out the official "N64 Glenn Plant" review before playing it! lol
Hope you enjoy it's weird and wonderfulness!
Old classic for sure in my opinion, very nostalgic!
Amen to that
Totally unappreciated game, I really enjoyed it. Cool concept, nice track layout, fun.
Only problem I’d say is sometimes it’d get a little to chaotic and it’d be hard to tell what’s goin on
I still own Iggy's wreckin ball to this day. Wonderful game.
simple fun and freakish game for sure
My only complaint on it isn't the game itself, but the controller I own hah. Shit analog brings shitty gameplay.
yeah I'm lucky to have a few brand new n64 controllers so my sticks are fine. invest in a nori if you do a lot of n64 gaming
Groovy thanks for the info
I just bought this for $5. I've only played a little bit of it so far. I have the grappling part figured out, but it seems like there's a special ability you get when you press Z. Sometimes it gives me a boost of speed, and sometimes it makes a bubble come out.
DUDE I LOVE YOU!!!!
this is one of the 3 games from my childhood i was looking for
Same here.
I like boobies
I grew up with this game and it was definitely one of my favorite racing games, second only to f zero x. I still think about it all the time for some reason lol. Almost every day after school my friends would come over and play this, f zero x and donkey Kong 64 for hours. It’s definitely hard to get used to the controls but I think it was so creative and weird I just loved it. It still surprises me that it’s not that well known, because to me it was such a classic.
Nice review , I grew up with this game and I miss it and I thought the soundtrack suits the game very well
yeah its certainly the kinda wacky game you rarely see these days!
When I was younger I played this game A LOT. I had forgotten about it until I saw this review!
OMG from the music, to the tracks, to the floor is lava, to that annoying dragonfly or whatever, all the way to pressing Z for the roll boost, even the grapple moves and battle mode!!!
That game was my childhood!!! ♡
My brother had this when we were teenagers. I think it was a present from our mum, who doesn't know much about video games. it turned out to be quite a fun, addictive game. The review is correct that the controls could be quite tricky, but once you got the hang of it, it was quite an easy game to master. The playing modes (race and battle) were similar to Mariokart64, but the platform format with grappling hooks was very off the wall for a racing game. I wasn't mad keen on the music or the voices at the time, but I could overlook them for the gameplay.
I had this game as a kid and played it religiously whenever I got bored of Mario 64. But for some reason I forgot the game existed and until recently felt like a fever dream. But I’m glad I found it
Omg, i finallyyyy found this.. i remember as a kid renting this game and buying the little candies with the fizz in it, and i always thought this game had to do with those candies. Lmao wow.. nostalgia overload
I remember playing this game as a kid
@N64 Glenn Plant iggy’s reckin’ balls music is pseudo techno soundtrack
I know this is almost five years late, but "Wreckin"? I thought it was "Reckin."
+electricmastro well spotted! Corrected 😍
Cutesy? I think the cover looks disgusting, with the slimey design of the green ball and his way too detailed nostrils.
ive seen this but never got to play it but i know from your review that it would annoy the hell out of me so im not gonna be rushing in finding a copy anytime soon.
ill stick to grappling my own balls for now thank you.
Played through this game a dozen times on Hard mode. Even somehow managed to play split-screen with a bot! I kid you not, it's possible. Don't ask me why or even how I managed to achieve this. I've tried a couple times since then and couldn't figure out how I did it when I was younger. Sad to say, this game was severely underrated. The soundtrack was great and the minor glitches of the game made it that much better.
I used to rent games when I had a N64, and the cover of this game never really caught my attention...
Loved this game so much, but I don't think I could ever play it again, I fear it would ruin the memory
I played this game recently and I really enjoyed it. It’s simple platform racing but gets really challenging as you keep playing it.
This game played a major part in my childhood as i grew up with my N64 and SNES. Possibly my favorite racing game on the system. (Which says a lot since I enjoyed Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing a lot)
whoa that is saying a lot...thats the cool thing with gaming, everyone has their own opinions and memories :)
miss this game so much....
I randomly rented this from Blockbuster when I was a kid and was fascinated by it. idk why but its really stuck with me
oh and nice try with the 'gonna be super valuable' prediction
This looks like it'd work way better with dual analog
I rented this game once as a kid and didn't really get what to do. Seeing you speak so highly of it makes me curious now, and I might try finding it somewhere :)
I remember playing this game on N64 when I was a kid. I thought I found it fun. It's probably one of the most underrated N64 games of all time.
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
I loved this game as a kid. I used to rent it from block buster all the time.
Looks like a great game, to be presented on an equally great channel. Subscribed, as an Nintendo64 fan, I hope I find some hidden gems thanks to you.
Iggy's Reckin Balls was my favorite. I was the only kid in town that nobody could beat in this game.
I remember renting this game at a video store when I was a kid and I liked it.
This looked like a jumbled up mess when looking at gameplay videos before. After your explanation, it actually sounds pretty fun. I suppose I will have to check it out one day. Thanks for this, time to find a copy!
This was one of those underrated games I loved. It was my second choice to rent all the time at Blockbuster if Conker's Bad Fur Day wasn't available.
@glennplant how dp u record with an hd-pvr? what do i need?! btw please play paper mario n64
I remember renting this once, then many years later, wondering if it was real
Very creative gameplay!
This actually looks like a good game
Idk why I know this game
But I can never get it out of my head
+ruskoxstar no online PC version unless you mean emulator
I'd really like to hear your thoughts on dark rift and mace.
Haven’t heard or seen anything relating to this game in at least 15years!
I remember playing this game, although there's a lot going on, I found it kinda boring and as a kid had no idea what was going on sometimes.
This game was so fun
I had this game !!!! 😎
Only played for the music
Thank for for cheats !!!!
I found this game excellent, single player lacks a bit but multi-player is sooo fun!
Never heard of it but like every 64 I must have!!!
I had this back in the day but I bought it simply because it was dirt cheap at the store. I had no idea what it was when I picked it up.
It was more fun than I was expecting but I never spent much time on it. There were to many other titles for the N64 that were better.
Quite good game and nice concept!
sort a uniracers 3D?
retrovideogamejunkie exactly
2:19 Sienfield
I remember this game when it came out but never played it
Steven Lewis you should give it a try you might like it!
I really tried to enjoy this game but only was able to play it alone. My friends laughed at this when they saw it. Also I feel manlier already after clicking that like button
Do you think it's possible they will put this on nintendo switch online?
I doubt it but we can live in hope
@@n64glennplant Its here with extreme g today!
This game looks really original. It looks like it would be a lot of fun actually. I'm gonna have to find a copy. Even though the gameplay is a lot different this game reminds me of uniracers for the snes. They're both racing games that are very different from traditional racing games and you race from a side view and the tracks go up down backwards and in all 4 directions.
is very original, a weird mix of genres done so well! :D, but a lot of practice first
i played this for hours with my bros loved it! no sfx in this video:(
A truly underrated gem right here.
Nintendo just put this on NSO
Indeed they did
Cool
The only good thing in this game is music
I definitely remember this game being advertised through magazines (GamePro), I never considered playing it, because it just looked stupid to me. I would look at the advertisement ad for reading material while sitting on the toilet, haha.
yeah its certainly one of the weirdest n64 games!
@@n64glennplant Looks like it
That music would drive me to slitting my wrists
haha I get what you mean - small doses
a fun game overall i injoyed its unique gameplay even today never seen a game like it hard though never could get far
yeah its so weird and wonderful, rarely see anything even remotely like this these days
***** oh and great video i subscribed :D allways nice to see reviews about lesser known games^^ get bored of just hearing about mario world or whatever for the 10th time^^ though its a fav sometimes i want to hear about more obscure ones sometimes as well
then this is the right channel for n64 at least, I'm kinda known for not doing the bigger titles to be a view whore really, i tend to stick to games which are lesser known and rarely drop the big titles all that often
which is nice if you look at my subscribed channels you will see i have a lot and so many over do zelda and mario or even half life 2 and windwaker its nice to get some fresh games that are not talked about enough like buck bumble or forsaken
Never seen this en before.
Certainly one of the oddities on the console
First N64 game I ever got, $15
Indeed. Yet, for some reason, F-Zero looks quite better, aesthetically speaking of course.
"the game's not cheap" lol I got it for free and I don't even know where it came from.
Idk why but I just remembered this game as I was kissing my gf...weird thought no?
Help you need 😂
N64 Glenn Plant 😅🤣
I can't say I like the visuals for this game. I guess it was ok during the 90's but I find it to look preety ugly today :/
I'll try to rent it one day though, looks like a neat party game.
It's probably fun for some people but I didn't really like this one at all. It came with my system. Just not my type of gameplay at all, I was always sorta lukewarm on a lot of racing/sports type games anyway and I could never get the hang of this, plus the annoying sounds and cutesy-ness of this one turned me right off. Ended up trading it in.
thats such an odd game to get with the system? how did that come about
@@n64glennplant I ended up getting a used console for my birthday that came from Ebay, it was significantly cheaper that way and came with Mario. Shadows of the Empire, Diddy Kong, this and maybe one other thing. Also had that starfox promo VHS in the box which had me all over the place trying to find a copy!
This is another game that I think I am going to pass on Glenn. I also saw this on screwattack VGV and they were less than impressed with it and after seeing your review it's not something I think I should spend my money on.
its definitely an acquired taste, i can't think of any other game like it except for maybe unirally on snes
