I just started my first character less than a month ago and just got into running t16 corrupted maps thanks to RF and learned alot about the game and mechanics thanks to it. I really hope its useable in Affliction. Its ease of use allows me to spend time learning game mechanics and afford to build and experiment.

I mean they just reverted RF back to 3.7 version of RF with extra life/es scaling if anything this is the true RF as intended version. And this is still way more viable than what they did to vortex.
I feel like you are correct about the flat scaling and removing spell damage multiplier. Feel like they changed it so caster builds would have a harder time using as a huge damage boost woth just a 35% aura and a belt

This man is a pillar of positivity. Here's hoping the alternate version of RF opens either a viable path to familiarity, or at least a new door to something similarly viable. Or who knows, perhaps one of the many new alternate fire ability gems will prove a better partner ability than Fire Trap to the new RF. Pohx will find the way!
Bodyswap gets its max hp scaling doubled by quality now. Might be the new companion for the hp stacking build but I don't think the numbers add up to anything useful.

Hey Pohx ,I saw a video by captain Lance yesterday where he claims rf is actually giga buffed by the change. What he meant that loss of damage due to flat damage removal is actually much less than the increase of damage by the change of 35 % to 70 % life /es . What do you think?
Captainlance's style of RF is Ivory Tower stacking, which had its damage basically doubled, since all of its damage scaling was already built around extremely high max HP+ES pools. For a cheaper, Pohx-style RF build however it's a significant nerf from as early as gem level ~17.
RIP, bud. Really enjoyed the build last league, think it was the most I ever played during a league. The endgame crafting for it was really fun (and extremely profitable when it came to helmets). Pohx, what do you think about stacking new ascendancy for Trickser or Inq from Warlock: Sanguimancy+Crimson Power+Dissolution of The Flesh+flat ES stacking from gear? Looks like pretty easy to achieve 15k+ life which is 10500 base damage for RF = lvl 32 for OG RF gem version.
with Dissolution of The Flesh + RF, your HP will continuously goes down (reserved). And regen won't help to unreserve your life. Also you will have trouble getting some auras running without mana pool.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't this change actually revert it back to it's original form? I remember way back when I played RF, life scaling was the main way to scale the damage. That was one of the big, if not the main, reason Kaom's Heart was nerfed from 1000hp to 500hp. Definitely a huge nerf to the league start capability of it, but I think it really opens up the ceiling for how far the build can go and might introduce some new possibilities. I'm currently theory crafting this to see if a RF scepter is still BIS or energy blade with that new juicy 5% MORE ES modifier. If the new energy blade is comparable, maybe some new single target skills are on the table?
it is a point to note, as there is no more evolution of fire with the level of the gem, it will surely be the % of life that will be modified with the levels 20+.

Well that really sucks. GGG is well known for screwing up builds that don't need to be messed with. I use to run minion build until GGG screwed that up permanently and now the RF I been using is now sunk. This transfigure gem change sounds like the launch of the Titanic.

i am a wander enjoyer and i can feel you. it will be hard to find a new compareable skill to power siphon. i dont exactly remember but when barrage support came out i did some testing and ps was so far ahead when it comes to dmg it was the totally obvious choice lol
I feel like you just play the vendor Gem and then farm the mechanic for the flat damage variant or buy it off trade around white maps, also more then likely the flat damage will be buffed on the variant, I'm gonna hold and still leagu start rf myself
I've made some calculations with new ascendency classes from the new league with Crimson power and Ivory tower combo + new unique amulet for Life stacking. It might be possible to reach 20k life and more this league now. Also Captainlance9 have made a new video bout this and made a good point about how this gems actually is better for ES rf builds naturally. So there is a lot of bahevior change on how to make this work now, but i think it is not the end of rf for sure.
The Crimson Power and Sanguimancy nodes on one of the new weird ascendancy tree things could potentially synergize really well to make a super high life pool lowlife rf blood magic thing
Crimson power may hurt it more than help with removing all energy shield. I don't know if the ES converted to life from armor would be better than getting life as extra ES mentioned in the video. it will become a lot of number crunching, but very interesting

I feel like RF is popular enough that we'll see not only one transfigured gem, but 2. And who knows maybe we'll get a cool build. And idk if I understand that right. But. You can try for the gem at the first lab right? Around lvl 30. Which is usually when you'd swap with inquisitor anyway. One can dream.
i always thought its kinda weird that rf "scales with life" BUT most of the rf players only have 4500 life or something like that because its not really scaling with life. i would hope it still kinda scales with gemlvl but not for base damage but for +%scaling with life, like maybe a lvl 30rf does 100% of your life as base damage, maybe even 120% thats how i would desighn it at least if i was working for ggg
Breakpoints where this is a buff for existing RF builds: lvl 20 RF: 6992 eHP lvl 21 RF: 8015 eHP lvl 22 RF: 9178 eHP lvl 23 RF: 10506 eHP That seems way out of reach for budget/SSF life-only builds. But not too crazy for an equivalent Ivory Tower build. Basically, this version of RF is dead for Jugg, and can only be used with Inquisitor now? But, anyone who was already doing that just potentially got a massive buff.
Yeah, Jugg is 100% deadge. Pohx has POB'd up an Inquis which gets ~10k base damage and has pretty respectable dps for its budget, but it's not nearly as SSF-viable as before. Ivory Tower stackers got their damage nearly doubled for basically free, though.

why is anyone asking for an RF nerf? It's only popular because the quality of life from it's playstyle, its hardly a big damage dealer. It scales well with ridiculous investment but that's exactly how skills should be isn't it? Even if GGG made it 100% of health this would be a nerf. Let's see how hard they want us to lean into these transfigured then eh.
Ivory definitely my favorite kind of rf so this really gets me hyped. Though i do feel this version should have been an alternative gem and not the base gem.
But this is what RF used to be. It only got the flat dmg in 3.8 so for a long time this is what RF was. There will definitely be a transfigured gem though that adds the interaction back I am sure.

not for league start. Those new gems are gonna be super expensive first few days of the league and you literally can't do decent maps without it.

All contributions to base damage are calculated, then modified as a single value to all other damage increases.

I feel like RF is popular enough that we'll see not only one transfigured gem, but 2. And who knows maybe we'll get a cool build. And idk if I understand that right. But. You can try for the gem at the first lab right? Around lvl 30. Which is usually when you'd swap with inquisitor anyway. One can dream.
i always thought its kinda weird that rf "scales with life" BUT most of the rf players only have 4500 life or something like that because its not really scaling with life.
i would hope it still kinda scales with gemlvl but not for base damage but for +%scaling with life, like maybe a lvl 30rf does 100% of your life as base damage, maybe even 120% thats how i would desighn it at least if i was working for ggg

Breakpoints where this is a buff for existing RF builds:
lvl 20 RF: 6992 eHP
lvl 21 RF: 8015 eHP
lvl 22 RF: 9178 eHP
lvl 23 RF: 10506 eHP
That seems way out of reach for budget/SSF life-only builds. But not too crazy for an equivalent Ivory Tower build. Basically, this version of RF is dead for Jugg, and can only be used with Inquisitor now?
But, anyone who was already doing that just potentially got a massive buff.
Yeah, Jugg is 100% deadge. Pohx has POB'd up an Inquis which gets ~10k base damage and has pretty respectable dps for its budget, but it's not nearly as SSF-viable as before. Ivory Tower stackers got their damage nearly doubled for basically free, though.
I love your positive attitude on that. I am confident that you will make the new RF work.
For now I am looking forward to the alternate gems. Let's see first what is in store before the complaining starts.

why is anyone asking for an RF nerf? It's only popular because the quality of life from it's playstyle, its hardly a big damage dealer. It scales well with ridiculous investment but that's exactly how skills should be isn't it?
Even if GGG made it 100% of health this would be a nerf. Let's see how hard they want us to lean into these transfigured then eh.
Ivory definitely my favorite kind of rf so this really gets me hyped.
Though i do feel this version should have been an alternative gem and not the base gem.
But this is what RF used to be. It only got the flat dmg in 3.8 so for a long time this is what RF was. There will definitely be a transfigured gem though that adds the interaction back I am sure.

rf was for very experienced players back then, so wasnt very popular. where the new one is so easy to run n play
