the game is kinda designed to be that way with comparatively insane time commitment required. i wish they let me play the npc dialogue during gameplay like they do with the lore tidbits you find in the areas
An interesting detail: there are tombs in the cemetery to remember a beloved son and a beloved daughter, and the memorial in them is spoken by Asinia and Draven. So their hatred towards Ezomytes can be linked to their children deaths
Whoa! I didn’t realize who was voice acting them - I had just assumed it was for Lachlanns kids but that wouldn’t make sense because his family is buried together. EXCELLENT catch!
I'm sure you've scoured all the heist references already, but I'll mention it anyway! In PoE 1, Count Geonor himself is a heist client with a few different contracts for items: Urn of the Original Ashes, Crest of Ezomyr and the Ogham Candelabra. Each item has flavor text reinforcing his desire to prove his lineage. So the dude's been on this obsession for at least the past 20 years it seems. I haven't checked for each item, but I remember seeing the Crest of Ezomyr in one of the rooms in the manor, maybe in the count's bedroom. The other two are probably there too.
Just so others don't have to look it up, I'll share the flavor texts of the three items: Urn: "A great fire once swept the land, and our leaders were turned to ash where they stood. The urn contains exactly what you think it does, and serves as proof of our long lineage." Crest: "A symbol of my birthright and claim to my fiefdom. I must have it if I am to return my family to its rightful place" Candelabra: "Those Eternal bastards looted everything that wasn't bolted to the floor when we finally drove them from our island! That candelabra belongs with us!""
Thank you so much for making these ! One detail I figured I'd comment on, is that we don't stab both the wounded man and the reanimated corpse, we pull out a knife out of the wounded man's knee (which I also first thought looked like stabbing him, I guess that's why you said it), and use the knife to kill the zombie :)
It’s not a knife! It’s a quill from one of the porcupine spitter guys. Hence him saying “… that *thing* got me…”. I guess we’re not the only ones who get one-shot from those things.

Yeah it's just a bummer that the game becomes more generic as the acts go on - going away from smaller numbers of interesting and challenging enemies to massive hoards like all other ARPGs - at least the boss fights remain interesting.
@@KrillinInTheNameOf I'd disagree, unless you mean Cruel difficulty, which is a placeholder anyway and currently compensates with higher mob density. A1 has several areas with large amounts of enemies on screen at once, not much different to A2 and 3. But, to each their own opinion. We're only in version 0.1 anyway.
I've been going through your entire catalogue of lore videos while mapping in PoE 2, it's honestly amazing how little I knew of the lore of PoE considering I've played it since early 2013. It's been a lot of fun learning about all the things I've killed :P A big thank you for the many hours of entertainment!
Your recounting of Path of Exile 2’s lore was enthralling, Exile. The meticulous detail enriched every tale. I look forward to your next delve into the darkness.
@@wils1426 I also just generally hate not being called Exile by any of the NPCs. I know we're not technically exiles this time around, but it makes the game feel more empty not constantly being referred to that way.
I was recommended your channel by community members to learn more about PoE lore because I’m a new PoE2 player and couldn’t find any wikis about the series lore or anything. I really like the videos! Glad you’ll be covering the second game as well!
One minor correction/clarification: the Exile and Sin don't "create" the Dark Ember in PoE 1; they just retrieve it. The Dark Ember is what Sin originally created to birth the Beast millennia earlier. In Act 9, they just need to collect it from the Beast's core (and possibly revive it or something using the three spirits; it's unclear what those spirits actually do). The new format sounds good in my opinion.
Agree! You’re right. They recover the dark ember and then imbue it with the corrupted souls of three major thaumaturgists who acted as guardians for the mortal pieces that Malachai sacrificed to try to tether his humanity to reality after he became part of the Beast and the use of these souls to revive the ember might be why Sin considers this a new Beast when the one between Atziri and Malachai was the same one… but see this is why I gotta keep it simple hehehe
Also, I'm not sure if Sin created the Dark Ember, since he had to go to Kalandra first. Maybe Kalandra gave him the seed, or maybe she just told him how he could create it himself, I'm uncertain.
I've got thousands of hours into PoE but couldn't tell you ten minutes of lore. Excellent video and thank you for making it approachable for lore newbies like me :D

For Lochlann-If you look at the monument to his family, you'll see that he's buried there too. He's the center sarcophagus, his wife lies to his left and their children to their right. My interpretation was that he went and fought at the Red Vale, perished there and the monument was erected later. He doesn't remember falling in battle and is confused about where he is and where his family is outside of "behind this gate". Draven probably was his family hostage when Lochlann died. You've probably got this covered in the more in depth video. The area where we fight Geanor, there is a circle on the ground with runes on it and stones that look like walls being propped up. I wasn't able to get a screenshot to see if the runes showed up anywhere else in POE but was going to try running the fight again to see if I could get it on a tougher character. "Yes! He's under there!"-Maybe a mausoleum to some long ago fallen hero of the Ezomytes? The Monk has a line about the Daiaucht in the Grim Tangle so might be aware of the Viridian Wildwood.
Excellent catch that Lachlann is buried there! I didn’t notice! I’d be super curious if there’s any similarity to the runes at the dig site and elsewhere. There are some rune-covered slabs in the Grelwood. An interesting trail! I wonder, if Lachlann’s family was kidnapped before the battle at the Red Vale, what happened to his family? How long before the Praetor and his witch wife killed them? A very interesting thread, thank you!!
@@KittenCatNoodle The runes in the Grelwood are in the same style as the fragments found in the arena after the fight. I'm positive the arena in an ancient burial mound, similar in fashion to our Neolithic mounds. The foundation of the manor can be seen on the last floor before descending into the arena. The wall that the thrones are on isn't a retaining wall for the dig, it's the outer wall for the burial mount. There are two upright stones that might have been part of a passageway into the mound on its creation. The slabs being held up might be a cap for whomever is buried underneath. The runes, when reversed searched on Google bring up related images to sundials or zodiacs. I found a rock "formation" in the shape of a mannish looking wolf in the Grelwood and can't help thinking, with what we know about the Greatwolf of the First Ones, that those runes might be a lunar cycle of some kind. Or it's some kind of ancient Ezomyte seal to keep whomever is buried there, uncorrupted and contained. (It's Wreclast, nothing stays dead.) The lunar cycle is also on the flavor text on the Count's ring. Wolves, lunar cycles, the First Ones, Geonor turning into a wolf. Might all be related to the Ezomyte blood. The Lab poem hints at this too. I just read through Rigwald's entry on the wiki and can't help but wonder if he's the one under there. I wasn't around for Tailisman League so don't know much about him. The inscription stone on the entry doesn't match the runes so it could be a difference between runes for spiritual matters and those for communication. What Rigwald says about rusted hatches against the Eternals, during the Purity Rebellion, and how the land is described, fits what we see of the Rusted Veil. I searched what images I could find on the Viridian Wildwoods thinking I could find something that relates because something is nagging me about that area. Were there runes in there? The Grelwood 100% is reminiscent of the Wildwoods though. (I'm almost positive areas were used in Grelwood that came from the Wildwoods.)

I hope this isn't annoyingly nitpicky - at the very start of the Act when you're talking to the Wounded Man on the coast, the character doesn't stab him as well, but takes the crab spine that injured him out of his leg to stab the zombie. Just thought that was an important character building distinction ^_^; (I didn't notice at first that the crab that got him is dead in front of him, too)
