Steve Vai can do some of those clever bendy tricks just as well in my opinion. Just that Vai and Beck have their own unique style which gives them their sound, we all win when either of those guys play guitar. Of course, now that is no longer possible 😥Keep an eye on Mateo Mancuso as well.

You can emulate just about ANY guitarist on the planet, if you have the skill and the hours to put in. But you can't emulate Jeff Beck. A totally unique voice on the guitar. R.I.P.

I really hope Jeff left us with no regrets. His musical existence on this earth has a little bit of everything. From building his first 3 guitars on his own after hearing Les Paul for the first time when he was 13 , and the whole Yardbirds stent. Then Rod Stewart came along. I'm not sure he really wanted a four piece band like Zep. He knew how difficult he could be , and not surprising with the talent he had. One of his best attributes was the fact he gave so many up and coming artists opportunities to be recognized. Tal Wilkenfeld , just to name a few. It was just his life experience and amazing.
I dont think that Jeff ever played his guitar to make money Yeh, maybe when he was a young kid , he thought it might have been cool and given him a lifestyle that he had dreamed of. When he had that lifestyle given to him, he realised that he didn't actually want it. He played like no-one else ever has or ever will.
If you believe the usual websites, he was worth around $20 million when he passed. That’s not Page and Clapton money, but one gets the idea Jeff never wanted for much more than he had, except to keep exploring music.
Some people bring back the ego of old in Eric (in a good way), Mark Knopfler and Jeff Beck comes to mind immediately. Some musicians just bring out the best in others when they share the stage with them.
I love the way Doyle just comes in, doesn't try to upstage anyone, no pyrotechnics, just plays a piece that perfectly captures the mood and fades into the background. He's a master guitar player and deserves to be on the stage with Jeff and Eric.
@@dmljones2550 That’s correct. Doyle Bramhall ll grew up in Austin, his father, Doyle Bramhall, was a song writer and drummer who played with many bands included the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Doyle jr. is right handed but picked up a guitar when he was very young and it just felt right to hold it as if he was playing left handed. If you notice, it’s strung with the low E Sting on the bottom, it's basically a right handed set up just flipped upside down. Stevie Ray Vaughn would bring Doyle up on stage to play with him and became his mentor. After SRV died, Doyle and Charley Sextent formed The Arc Angels using the rhythm section from Stevie’s band. He’s been Clapton’s right hand guy for almost 20 yrs and in the mid 2000’s he toured with Roger Waters. Check out Comfortably Numb with Doyle and Snowy White. It just may be the best version of that tune. He also has a number of albums out. At any rate, I think he’s one of the best out there.
Jeff Beck's utter brilliance raised the bar for other greats like Clapton and Bramhall. No easy feat. R.I.P., El Maestro. Thank you for enriching my life

With a billion different guitarists all twiddling away on RUclips, all sounding like each other, this man stands out. Yes there are many unique guitarists around, but almost every legendary rock guitarist sighted Jeff Beck as their favourite. That says something about this man. Genious!!!

After almost 30 years of listening and practicing I can safely say---Jeff Beck's level of sophistication is unheard off (across all the genres of instrumental music), whether Jimi could have emulated or bettered it will always remain a question since he passed away too early.

But I need to learn a LOT more about it and you're welcome to educate me! 3) Jimi knew and jammed with all the top guitarists from that era (except for one - the reputed best until Jimi showed up) - and all of them would agree with me. So you've picked an argument with a lot of people who ARE due respect! - including Beck himself. I'm not a big fan of Jimi's music - but he was nevertheless a god among mortals and they all knew it. Clapton almost had a nervous breakdown after hearing Jimi - and shied away from him after that! But Clapton never refused to play with Beck. So - per logical thinking - someone who didn't scare Clapton is a lesser player than someone who did scare Clapton. And only Jimi scared him. It's a terrible shame that Jimi didn't live to profoundly humble another generation of guitarists or two!
Clapton rarely played raunchy solos like this one since the end of Cream. He clearly had a point to make after the wonderful Jeff's part. Two Greats at their best.
Is it just me or Clapton (what a monster solo he accomplishes well into the song, man!) can't help but glance once and again at Jeff while he is playing, both, surely, marveled and intrigued about HOW THE HECK HE DOES WHAT HE DOES?
I think he was looking at Beck to see if Beck wanted to go next or he wanted Doyle to solo. That's usually what people do in jams when you're almost done soloing. Great playing by monster players.
I am so lucky to have seen Jeff Beck in Dallas. I was a 21 year old farm girl from Wyoming aka hippie. I can feel the vibration of every note in my chest, touches my soul. Rock on Jeff.
I am overwhelmed by Jeff’s musicality. He makes that guitar SPEAK. First saw Jeff when he replaced Eric in the Yardbirds. Hated him for that but soon as he started playing, realised his playing was magic. Saw him many times in the 60’s. Was so lucky to see and hear such masterpieces. Jeff you will never be forgotten. RIP buddy. Se you up there.
There will never be another Jeff Beck, what he’s done with the guitar over the years is astonishing..it’s like no one has ever had the nerve, or the skill to copy what he’s done. And of course there’s Eric we all know what a genius he is. But there’s another guitar player up there a lot people probably have no clue who he is or just how awesome he is and that’s Doyle Brahmhall 2 . His dad Doyle senior was a drummer and song who was great friends with Stevie Ray and Jimmy Vaughan and actually wrote a few of Stevie’s hit recordings. Jeff Beck, is one of the most difficult guys to copy. The relationship he has with the instrument is visceral. Listening to him makes you realise he’s invented an entirely unique musical vocabulary.
Don Harrold I’ve been a huge fan of Jeff Beck when Rod Stewart was the singer in his band. Have you heard John McLaughlin’s guitar playing from the early 70’s when he had his band Mahavishnu Orchestra or John McLaughlin with Carlos Santana “Love Devotion Surender” album from 1973. His guitar playing is very similar to Jeff Beck’s guitar playing. My favorite Jeff Beck albums are Blow by Blow and Wired.
Got The Orange album in a dust bin in a thrift shop in 1976 I was 15 I put it on…..I listened to this .50 cent treasure everyday after school for a month. Before I knew what good music was…. I knew this was good music. This is a treasure❤

It's so extraordinary how Jeff Beck manipulates the whammy bar and the volume knob on his guitar to create and change the sound on the musical notes of the guitar!!!! He's so damn melodic!!!!! And did you know that Beck had chucked the tapes away, he thought it was crap but George Martin rescued them and mixed them, the result was Blow By Blow.
Rip Jeff. He played music till the end. Saw him in May at the Albert Hall. Thank God he left behind his sound. Nobody completely dies, something of them will always live with us.

Something he's developed more and more over the years is [what we would have called a shaker bar] his tremolo and volume control stuff that makes his already masterful guitar work quite unique. and he gets better (doesn't seem possible) and better as the years go by. Sadly, i've only seen him once, with Tim Bogart and Carmine Appice at the Civic in Akron.

Beck has evolved from a fairly conventional guitarist to someone who is totally unique. Every note is shaped. Total control. He uses his guitar as his voice and actually sings with it.
he was, and still is..but at same time evolved to many levels and still evolving..his is still the 60s jeff beck in millennial body...LOL. you must go through conventional way before you decide to live out of the convention. in fact, if you want to learn conventional guitar fingerplays, beck is the best source..

This from from the debut Crossroads Guitar Festival. The Festival was filled with legends. But only Jeff was Godlike. And this performance filled the heart and soul of everyone in that football stadium. I remember knowing that at the time. All these years later it's power remains undiminished.

Absolutely. As a drummer myself, let's not forget the likes of Ginger Baker, Carmine Appice, Don Brewer, and Billy Cobham., These guys for me was the way to play a kit. And so I did.
All I can say is ME ALSO. I grew up in the 60's and I wouldn't change it if I could. Best of everything occurred during this era. Back when the only thing burning at a protest was someones Draft Card. I practically lived at the State Capitol. Ive seen everything from Ceasar Chavez to the Black Panther party rallies. It's not gonna ever be like that again. Sure we were maced, civil rights violations were rampant. Cal Expo was just finished being constructed. Making the old State fairgrounds the poorest neighborhood in the city and us poorer people could afford to live there. Of course minimum wage was 190 an hour. But a pound of burger was only 89 to 90 cents a pound and a loaf of bread was only 50 to 60 cents. Ahhhhhh the good old days when loving living with poor people like myself and there was a place called the Rib shack. Half a chicken all cooked up and ready to take home and eat right away. Ribs were 1.60 a pound cooked and ready to go. Half rack was just perfect for a one man dinner with rice or baked beans was a very good inexpensive dish just add some veggies and you had a full meal. Never in my wildest dreams is life ever gonna be like this ever again. A little added bonus to getting older.
Clapton and Beck are my two favorites and biggest influences on the guitar. I love the contrast here and just seeing them play together. So different but still part of a single thread. I also appreciate Doyle being here .. with that lefty upside down guitar he brings the spirit of my other favorite guitarist , Mr Jimi 🙏🏾 Long live Clapton
I can remember Shapes of Things, 1966, I was 15 years old. Jeff Beck playing on his knees. The Yardbirds were on the Lloyd Thaxton Show, if you are old enough to remember that show, they played Shapes of Things and after the song Lloyd asked Jeff, what was that sound at the end. Jeff said, "that was feedback Lloyd"! R.I.P.
Jeff is the master, the first of the so called fusion players I heard of anyway and i was simply blown away by Blow By Blow. If you dont own it, your missing out.

I love the way Jeff turns to eleven whenever Eric is on stage. They go way back, the two. I wanted to say that Jeff gives all he's got when he's with Eric.
If you're referring to him moving off stage right it's because the cameramen have set up a zone for closeups, so when Eric starts playing Jeff moves out of the zone.

With a billion different guitarists all twiddling away on RUclips, all sounding like each other, this man stands out. Yes there are many unique guitarists around, but almost every legendary rock guitarist sighted Jeff Beck as their favourite. That says something about this man. Genious!!!

After almost 30 years of listening and practicing I can safely say---Jeff Beck's level of sophistication is unheard off (across all the genres of instrumental music), whether Jimi could have emulated or bettered it will always remain a question since he passed away too early.

But I need to learn a LOT more about it and you're welcome to educate me! 3) Jimi knew and jammed with all the top guitarists from that era (except for one - the reputed best until Jimi showed up) - and all of them would agree with me. So you've picked an argument with a lot of people who ARE due respect! - including Beck himself. I'm not a big fan of Jimi's music - but he was nevertheless a god among mortals and they all knew it. Clapton almost had a nervous breakdown after hearing Jimi - and shied away from him after that! But Clapton never refused to play with Beck. So - per logical thinking - someone who didn't scare Clapton is a lesser player than someone who did scare Clapton. And only Jimi scared him. It's a terrible shame that Jimi didn't live to profoundly humble another generation of guitarists or two!
Clapton rarely played raunchy solos like this one since the end of Cream. He clearly had a point to make after the wonderful Jeff's part. Two Greats at their best.

I am overwhelmed by Jeff’s musicality. He makes that guitar SPEAK. First saw Jeff when he replaced Eric in the Yardbirds. Hated him for that but soon as he started playing, realised his playing was magic. Saw him many times in the 60’s. Was so lucky to see and hear such masterpieces. Jeff you will never be forgotten. There will never be another Jeff Beck, what he’s done with the guitar over the years is astonishing..it’s like no one has ever had the nerve, or the skill to copy what he’s done. And of course there’s Eric we all know what a genius he is. But there’s another guitar player up there a lot people probably have no clue who he is or just how awesome he is and that’s Doyle Brahmhall 2 . His dad Doyle senior was a drummer and song who was great friends with Stevie Ray and Jimmy Vaughan and actually wrote a few of Stevie’s hit recordings. Have you heard John McLaughlin’s guitar playing from the early 70’s when he had his band Mahavishnu Orchestra or John McLaughlin with Carlos Santana “Love Devotion Surender” album from 1973. His guitar playing is very similar to Jeff Beck’s guitar playing.

You are quite correct, sir. Something he's developed more and more over the years is [what we would have called a shaker bar] his tremolo and volume control stuff that makes his already masterful guitar work quite unique. and he gets better (doesn't seem possible) and better as the years go by. Sadly, i've only seen him once, with Tim Bogart and Carmine Appice at the Civic in Akron.

Beck has evolved from a fairly conventional guitarist to someone who is totally unique. Every note is shaped. Total control. He uses his guitar as his voice and actually sings with it.

This from from the debut Crossroads Guitar Festival. The Festival was filled with legends. But only Jeff was Godlike. And this performance filled the heart and soul of everyone in that football stadium. I remember knowing that at the time. All these years later it's power remains undiminished.

Absolutely. As a drummer myself, let's not forget the likes of Ginger Baker, Carmine Appice, Don Brewer, and Billy Cobham., These guys for me was the way to play a kit. And so I did.
All I can say is ME ALSO. I grew up in the 60's and I wouldn't change it if I could. Best of everything occurred during this era. Back when the only thing burning at a protest was someones Draft Card. I practically lived at the State Capitol. Ive seen everything from Ceasar Chavez to the Black Panther party rallies. It's not gonna ever be like that again. Sure we were maced, civil rights violations were rampant. Cal Expo was just finished being constructed. Making the old State fairgrounds the poorest neighborhood in the city and us poorer people could afford to live there. Of course minimum wage was 190 an hour. But a pound of burger was only 89 to 90 cents a pound and a loaf of bread was only 50 to 60 cents. Ahhhhhh the good old days when loving living with poor people like myself and there was a place called the Rib shack. Half a chicken all cooked up and ready to take home and eat right away. Ribs were 1.60 a pound cooked and ready to go. Half rack was just perfect for a one man dinner with rice or baked beans was a very good inexpensive dish just add some veggies and you had a full meal. Never in my wildest dreams is life ever gonna be like this ever again. A little added bonus to getting older.
Clapton and Beck are my two favorites and biggest influences on the guitar. I love the contrast here and just seeing them play together. So different but still part of a single thread. I also appreciate Doyle being here .. with that lefty upside down guitar he brings the spirit of my other favorite guitarist , Mr Jimi 🙏🏾 Long live Clapton

I can remember Shapes of Things, 1966, I was 15 years old. Jeff Beck playing on his knees. The Yardbirds were on the Lloyd Thaxton Show, if you are old enough to remember that show, they played Shapes of Things and after the song Lloyd asked Jeff, what was that sound at the end. Jeff said, "that was feedback Lloyd"! R.I.P.

If you're referring to him moving off stage right it's because the cameramen have set up a zone for closeups, so when Eric starts playing Jeff moves out of the zone.
