    Come hangout with me while Chris and I replace the clutch on my 2009 VW Jetta. I also take some time to talk about the DMF or Dual Mass Flyweel that Volkswagen uses on many models oc their cars.

    LOL: You go, "I'm going to get suited up real quick" to clean up the gear box... then you come back in the same outfit, no masks or anything with just a pair of pink dishwashing gloves. I was expecting a hazard suit or at least a vapor mask and industrial gloves or something.... Love it!!! Great video, man!

    Nice job. And the most important bit of advice right at the end... always use your turn signals 😁

      Thank you! There was a funny bit earlier that didn’t make it into the video. Chris drives a BMW and I was talking to him about how notorious BMW drivers are for not using them. Hahahaha

      Thanks Gream! This was my first front wheel drive clutch job. It was tough, but not horrible. Thanks for watching!

      Since it was tilted it was probably okay, just in the car the 1.7 l will not all fit through the fill hole, so you fill through the reverse light switch.
      Also, there’s official VW instructions on how to perform the fluid change, and you’re supposed to lock the trans input (?) shaft into place and also drain fluid from two different places if I recall correctly. I don’t think it’s fully necessary, I’ve done it by following the manual to a T one time and the next time I just did it how he did it, both times have been fine.

    Is there a six speed transmission I can swap for the five speed?

    Informative video. Did you replace all hardware - bolts? need clutch replaced on my car and want to make sure i buy all necessary parts. Do you happen to have a list of all necessary hardware items? I saw complete kits on ECS but unsure if all pieces are needed.

    • @StevesProjectCarGarage
      @StevesProjectCarGarage  Год назад +1

      Thanks! Glad you liked it. I got mine from RockAuto. The only hardware that I replaced were the bolts for the flywheel to the crank. Those are single use bolts and are torqued to spec.
      I ended up buying a new flywheel, the bolts to the flywheel and the clutch kit.
      3 items really. I think it cost me just about $400 all in? Then the fluid for the gearbox because why not? You’ve got it out, may as well do it while it’s easy.

    Hello there, I have a tranny leak/pedal to the floor also on a 2007 vw eos 2.0t! (bpy) going to find out what tranny case I have later(02m-02s) Looking for recommendations on what clutch kit to go with and it's making my Anxiety go thru the roof im extremely nervous! My Dual Mass flywheel has 130k on it so I'm assuming its shot. My Wrencher says he will try to resurface it but VW says it's a non-servicable part! So on the 07' eos 2.0t the slave is incased in the bellhousing, hope that helps. It took about 3 days of watching RUclips vids to understand this whole 6 speed m/t clutch/seal replacement. I wish I had the tools and equipment to install my new clutch and seals but I'm an amateur who fell in love with driving & working on V-dub's only about 2yrs ago.

      I would look on Rock Auto for your specific model and see what options they have. I found that VW uses two suppliers on my car and it was LUK and SACS. The LUK clutch kit was a lot cheaper than the SACS.
      I wouldn’t try to resurface the DMF. There are springs inside of it like I showed in the video that are wear items. If you resurface it you will still have the old springs which can break. For the cost I’d just spend the extra bit and replace the DMF as well. It is cheap insurance.
      Hope that helps!
      Cheers!

      I got 180k out of the first one. But it all comes down to how hard you drive it.

    hey some mechanic told me that I need VW software because apparently changing a clutch at home soft-locks your car from starting. Is this true?

    • @StevesProjectCarGarage
      @StevesProjectCarGarage  11 месяцев назад

      I sure as heck didn’t run into that on mine. Maybe on something newer, but just seems like a stretch.

      @@StevesProjectCarGarage obviously the shop I heard that from wanted me to go through them because had 'licensed volkswagen software', and this is a project I've thought about doing myself, because now the gearbox will go into gear without pressing the clutch somewhat, and occasionally I hear some grinding. Now, if I had all the money in the world, I'd swap it for a 6 speed and get just that little more fuel economy (even though its GREAT on these little cars) and brrrr!!!! off to the races. I was wandering why my car would jerk, I thought maybe I just let off the clutch too sharp. ah well, she's got 240k miles on her. Been to over 30 states. Really good traveling vehicle.
