I was making cookies in our community room this weekend and someone came in and tasted the batter, then dipped the same finger she just licked back into the bowl to get another taste. I couldn't even try one after that. gross..

I thought the same thing when she apologized for tasting the cookie batter. I was like what, doesn't everybody do that? 😂 One of my fondest memories of my mom baking was the anticipation of waiting for her to hand me a beater to lick. Did that with my kids too and now my grandkids ❤

Debbie Lavigne here ❤. I will be 70 in March. I too have changed up my kitchen shenanigans. I have always thought about canning but working 2 jobs and balancing my life with my husband and 3 very active kids left no time. My late husband and I pretty much cooked the tried and true recipes. This year, I planted some herbs and vegetables I've never grown before. I also learned to waterbath can and pressure can. It definitely makes you feel young again.

just a quick note about cracking eggs directly into your batter. I once had ordered a banana bread sandwich (2 slices of banana bread with a cream cheese frosting in the middle...delicious!) BUT!!! I it was ruined when I bit into a spot where the shell was in the banana bread portion...absolutely ruined it for me. I couldn't eat another bite. when you crack your eggs directly into your batter with the machine running you take the risk of shells falling in and there's no way you can retrieve all of them. love watching your videos! You are so authentic and realistic! we all make mistakes and I love that you're not afraid to share them with us. My mother always taught me to pre measure my ingredients. If you pre measure your ingredients instead of doing them on the fly, you have time to double check yourself and you don’t ruin a whole batch by adding too much or omitting something critical. You also know if you have all the ingredients you will need and you don’t forget to add something. It takes pre-planning but has saved me on many occasions!
If a person doesn’t have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?

I took an online class recently with a French pastry chef….she insists we must weigh our ingredients and hers were metric, naturally. I ordered a scale in case I want to bake appropriately in the future because trying to convert a recipe from metric is math and, EW!

I agree that it is very useful to measure out all your ingredients before you start. What I like to do is make a bunch of different dough recipes in one day, refrigerate them, then bake on another day. I so admire Becky’s tremendous ambition but sometimes trying to do too much at once can lead to mistakes.

Just a friendly suggestion. Take heed and pre measure your ingredients when baking. Not only are you dealing with dyslexia, talking while you measure ingredients, but you are making a lot of different recipes and new recipes to boot. I used to make and sell cookies for the holidays and always found pre measuring my dry ingredients saved me a lot of heartache and made my days go much smoother. The other option is make less recipes so you don't have to rush to get your content out. Have an enjoyable holiday season.

A word to the wise: Move the scale out from under your bowl when you are finished weighing. You will ruin its calibration if you continually add pressure to the bowl (i.e., using it as a platform for beating or stirring ingredients, etc)
BTW, Google for charts to convert cups to grams... very handy tool!

Oh and also love that you are always doing new recipes to try out!!! Since you use a metal mixing bowl with your KitchenAid, just take your little torch and lightly run it along the sides of the bowl till the butter melts. I’ve done it often in a pinch!
Also, a quick and easy no-bake cookie is melting Andes mints and dipping Ritz crackers. They taste very similar to the Girl Scout mints. Just add festive sprinkles 😊
And…Andes makes a chip just like the chocolate and butterscotch. They’re so easy to use😊
I can also relate to the slight dyslexia. I had to quadruple one cookie when I caught an error in time, but my future self will love having extra cookie dough in the freezer 😊

Hi Becky, whenever I make a new recipe that I have never made before, I pre measure my ingredients into separate dishes and add them as I need them. It keeps me from becoming confused which can happen quite easily, especially for me. Thanks. I love watching what you do, it's always interesting, informative and fun to watch. Great job !! ❤

Always crack your eggs into a separate dish then add to mixer(could have shell in or yolk could be bloody, then you haven't wasted the other ingredients).

Totally! I cried when that happened during one of her Christmas cookie extravaganzas (2022 or 2021 - I can't remember). She had to throw out the whole double batch of cookie dough because of a bad egg.

Yes I just watched a show on that. They are perfectly safe to eat. The commercial egg ers use X-Ray equipment to screen for those eggs bc, of course, no one wants to use them. Butttt, thousands of eggs are wasted from this process. .

Blood spots are fine and she'll can be picked out relatively easily, but into a bowl before does make that easier. Doesn't make me do it, though. 😂

    Hi Becky!
So I own a Great American Cookies down here in Dallas Texas
And to save on sprinkles, all you really need to do is roll just half the cookie and leave the bottom without they will still look beautiful and also once you scooped the cookie dough out, you really do not have to roll them like you do your meatballs skipping them out it’s just fine🥰

I used to teach cooking and the first thing I would get the students to learn was to get everything together before we start, utensils, bowls etc. and ingredients . It used to save a lot of problems later. You are a good example to today's audience.

Becky on the sprinkle cookies press them out after rolling into a ball and then pat one side in the sprinkles and place on cookie sheet sprinkle side up. No need to sprinkle the bottoms of the cookies.

I love watching your channel when I might be feeling a little overwhelmed from having anxiety about different things, needing some mama time, doing household chores, cooking for our precious family of four and needing recipe and meal inspiration and or just wanting to relax a little. I look forward to seeing what God has for your channel in 2024. Much love, prayers and God Bless for CHRISTmas and the New Year from our family to yours from Australia . xxx

Becky, dont fret about the cookie fails, this is how we learn. I just made my homemade chocolate covered cherries and the expensive chocolate seized on me and ruined the batch. Oh well, i will learn from this mistake. I enjoy your cooking and I know Josh's coworkers appreciated your efforts! This is going to be good training for when Baby Acre is ready to bake and decorate cookies with his mom.

Your cookie-palooza is incredible. I love what you assemble for your Xmas recipe line up. By the way, melted butter that is not hot means to melt it completely, and then let it cool for 10 minutes, and not par-melted to be warm.

Be careful! We have lots of sprinkles without articial colours in the UK, but they tend not to be heat stable, sometimes not the dye OR the sprinkle! So fine if you're using to decorate, but for the cookies you cover in sprinkles and then back, they might a) melt and b) lose their colour! I always save my small stash of American sprinkles for those :)

That explains why they don't do well here then! 😂 I don't often use sprinkles ,but the few times I have here in the uk, they have been oddly disappointing with the color loss. I never noticed it they were all natural colors, but reading this leads me assume they have been.
