Bought this for a solar collector system for my above ground pool.. Had bought the blue and black pump off ebay last season rated at 1/2 hp and it split the casing by the end of the season.. Was thinking I still needed 1/2 hp or 3/4 but gave this a try instead.. Does a great job pushing water through 2-25' hoses and 500' coiled .50" irrigation tubing.. Hope it lasts a couple seasons.
Normage Inc. These newer Harbor Freight pumps seem to be a bit better quality. We had one of the blue ones and it lasted maybe 2 seasons. So far we haven’t had any issues with the Drummond! I’ve had leaves and sludge from on top of my pool cover collect in it. Just had to clean the bottom and it kept on pumping! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your review. It has been very helpful. I'm heading out today to get on. Great video and great jod on making the video. Very informative. Please keep up the good work. 🇺🇸
I have samepump but 1/2hp. The problem is once all the water has been pumped out. The Drummond continues to run. Do you know anything about replacing or adjusting the water level switch? thanks...
My pump also continues to run as there is no auto shut off. There are days when we start the pump and forget about it all day. It’s obviously not good for the pump to run like that, but it still works like new after using it for years. Thanks for watching!
QUESTION regarding hose type: Have you ever tried using one of those Expandable Garden Hoses with these pumps? I'm getting tired of getting kinks in my typical garden hoses and was thinking about using the Expandable Garden Hoses instead...but I'm not sure if those work well for the lower water pressure from these utility pumps. Any insight would be much appreciated.
Hi Samantha! Thanks for taking the time to watch our video. It certainly would be nice to have a longer cord. I did not see that in the instructions although we purchased ours years ago. We have used our pump with an extension cord for years without any issues. If you use a heavy duty extension cord, you should be ok! Thanks again for watching!
anyone that may read this i just bought this pump today becausr my basement flooded. i have a few questions it was working great than it started making a litte whistling sound and now i cant get it to pump out any water. and also how far can i submerge it under water. is power cord ok to go underwater?
Sorry for the late response! Yes, it is completely submersible. Sounds like you got a dud. Hopefully you returned it to the store. Ours is still pumping like new after all these years. Thanks for watching!
I don't have the Drummond, however I have several clones built exactly as the Drummond I have to drain my back yard due to excess rain. I wrap the suction (bottom) of the pump with screen wire. In order to prevent leaves and debris from entering the pump. Never a problem. I just works. Picture a nylon stocking.
Yes, you certainly can! It’s been at the bottom of my 10 ft deep in ground pool and has pumped without issue. I’ve used and abused this pump for years and it still runs like new!
Al D. No, unfortunately this model doesn’t have an auto on/off setting. It would’ve been a nice feature to have, although at this price point you won’t find that feature. If you don’t mind spending the extra money, a few of the more expensive models have the auto on/off. Thanks for watching!
It should work as far as getting water to the pressure washer, however unless you are continually using the pressure washer I'd recommend against it. If you let off the trigger of the pressure washer, the Dummond pump will continue to run and try to push water through the hose. In my opinion this will strain the motor on the Dummond pump potentially leading to mechanical failure.
Econoline Garage o ok I only used the water for like 5 to 8 min with the pressure washer then I could turn it back off I'm going to try it to see how it works thank you for your time
If you could not their would be tons of warning labels and dummy diagrams all over telling you not to. How else could you practically drain anything with it?
I have the previous all black version, bought it in 2012 after my basement flooded.. still works like a champ to this day..
Works great. Have had a few years. Drained a 25000 gal pool no problem. We use it to drain off the pool when it rains too much. Great product
Clean, clear, honest review.
Thank you.

How many solar u use with ur pump and how much time it works?
I didn’t realize it was clear water only pump. Mine is not pumping enough. I’ll try to brush dirt from the bottom to see if it pumps out better!

I just bought the 1/3 hp version it is amazing!!! Great review!!!
Thanks John Church! Harbor Freight is really stepping up their game with many of their new products.
Thank you for the very beneficial video.

Always used a regular garden hose. I don’t see any reason why an expandable garden hose wouldn’t work. Thanks for watching!
How deep underwater can it be submerged before water leaks into the power cord connection?
The power cord on this particular pump is about 10 ft in length.
@@econolinegarage Thanks - I wound up buying this. It's a very strong little pump!!
Works great for me too.
Mike it’s still working great for me also!
Thanks bud
I don't know why it says online that you can't use it with an extension cord. Kind of defeats the purpose if you don't have an outlet outside.
We’ve always used it with an extension cord. No issues after all these years and works like new! Thanks for watching!
I wish the cord were longer. You aren't supposed to use an extension cord according to the instructions I have.
Hi Samantha! Thanks for taking the time to watch our video. It certainly would be nice to have a longer cord. I did not see that in the instructions although we purchased ours years ago. Can I use this in a shallow well?
Would this be good to suck water from the level surface like the ground, I see the suction is really low to the ground would be good. Like puddles.

I wonder if I can use this with soapy water to wash my dogs outside?
I wouldn’t see why not! Did you get one and give it a try?
Can you submerse it all the way in, like into a 200 gallon tank
Yes, you certainly can! It’s been at the bottom of my 10 ft deep in ground pool and has pumped without issue. I’ve used and abused this pump for years and it still runs like new!
If you put this in a bare bottom aquarium would it suck up fish poop?
No.
Does it kick on and off depending on a set water level?
Al D. No, unfortunately this model doesn’t have an auto on/off setting. It would’ve been a nice feature to have, although at this price point you won’t find that feature. If you don’t mind spending the extra money, a few of the more expensive models have the auto on/off. Thanks for watching!
Can I used this pump for a pressure washer put it in a water tank with a garden hose connected to the pressure washer?
It should work as far as getting water to the pressure washer, however unless you are continually using the pressure washer I'd recommend against it. If you let off the trigger of the pressure washer, the Dummond pump will continue to run and try to push water through the hose. Shit, I just paid $80. Needed it for the new lake that formed in my lawn after heavy rains.
It’s terrible, everything has gone up in price. Hopefully it worked well for you, ours is still going strong!
The manual did not say it can be fully submerged, so Im not sure
If you could not their would be tons of warning labels and dummy diagrams all over telling you not to. How else could you practically drain anything with it?
@@Mike-pj1kv You could drain by putting the body half way submerged, but again its funny how the manual does not mention it being fully submersible
Jamaica Dancehall TV this is able to be fully submerged. I’ve been using it now for two seasons without any issues!
The Name of it indicates it's submersiful! - DRUMMOND
1/6 HP Submersible Utility Pump 1600 GPH
Mam 4 years later and cheapest I see this thing for is like 70 before shipping
This inflation sucks.
What about pressure?
I’d say the pressure is about that of a garden hose.
it says it's submersible in the catalog
77hemi yes, it is submersible. I’ve been using it now for two seasons without any issues. Well worth the money!
This thing sucks I used my 4 times and doesn’t work anymore waste of 60$
James Rife that’s not cool. Sorry to hear it didn’t work out. Mine still works great! Double check to be sure nothing is clogged.
