Thanks for the great video. These kinds of videos remove all of the doubt of “will this pump work for my application” so I don’t have to waste time and money buying the wrong pump. Thanks again!.!.!
I have this model and I need to remove the base plate. I don’t have the owners manual and came looking to find out how to remove the base plate. THANK YOU for providing this information!
I brought a drummund 1/4 horsepower Sump 3 days ago and dug a spot where the water pools but here's the Secret, i took an old window screen and cut to fit around the pump Duct taped it around my sump pump from the bottom to halfway up and wrap that duct tape around it and you got a filter that keeps even little pebbles out, put that sucker in a home depot bucket with lots of drilled 1/3 or 1/4 holes and plant the bucket in the Ground and she comes on when the float rises and gets the job done automatically.
Thank you so much for saving my day! I was trying to do maintenance on this pump today and could NOT, for the life of me, get the debris strainer off by following the instructions in the manual! While watching your video, I saw that you PULLED the lock back to release it. The manual says to PRESS them to release the strainer. Ugh! I'm now a new subscriber! Thanks again!
Use window screen to wrap around the bottom of your pump, then duct tape the thing and you got a good filter, i did mine a few days ago and it hasn't torn and filters out anything larger than a little window square.
HUGE HELP! My carport is in the low spot of our property with no drain... The water comes in, doesn't leave. Then it gets above or under the kick plates in the door when it's really storming and welcomes itself into the house. Now that doesn't happen all that time, but, once was enough. I didn't know what to buy, and what HP/Flow to look for. I also didn't know how fast it would drain an area like you had - this is a huge help thank you so much!
Excellent review of a pump I need to buy today to get the water out of my basement. I needed to know more about the set-and-forget thing and if the base was detachable - you even showed your trick to get it to detach! Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks, Chad. I'm glad i could help. And definitely shave down those clips before putting the base on. The dang thing is nearly impossible to remove if you don't. Although you probably wont need the base for using it in the basement. Depending how much debris you have i would think just like in ky garage there isn't too much. Without the base it will bet a little more water out because it's closer to the floor. I just set mine up again the other day before a heavy rain and they will probably stay out most of the spring. Thanks for the comment!
@@thehandyhomeowner9781Also agree that you'd be pleasant surprised on how much more water a larger diameter hose can flow. Big difference! Just remember to buy the corresponding size check valve.
I bought this thing for a simple pool cover water removal and it failed after 44 days. In the process of returning it now. Because it’s a pump, it can’t be returned to the store, (sewage, gray water , health issues). It has to filed online with HF. So I can’t say I’d recommend it. I’m going to have to get a cast iron sewage pump to avoid the weaker pumps. Overkill, sure, but I can’t afford to purchase weaker pumps every few months.
Thanks for the commment. Since i use mine so intermittently and for a shorter time hopefully it lasts a while. I dont like spending money twice on something.
I know this is a little old but are you sure its dead? It may just be clogged. I thought mine was dead and I went through the return process & they refunded me. Then I saw a video of someone taking apart a Wayne pump that looks identical, followed the steps & cleared out all the little seed pods & its been working fine ever since!
Thanks for the video. I am considering this pump but can't tell at what mark does it start automatically? Is it 2" or less? I need one that starts at less than an inch. Would this be work?
There is a drain where the pump is sitting in the garage so that spot is lower and that's why it turns on there. But once on it gets the water pretty much down the the last half inch or less.
Great video! Can I ask, how low does it get the water level too? I have a small, artificial pond that I need to empty once in a while to clean. How much water will be left in it? Like an inch of water?
Thanks for the review. I got the same pump. When I screwed on the hose adapter with the check valve pointing upward, there was a washer and something that was clicking in there. Am I supposed to remove that? Not sure if that was something that was needed for freezing temperatures or something. Thanks, again.
I have very similar pump that's 1/2hp. The problem is once all the water has been pumped out. The Drummond continues to run. Do you know anything about replacing or adjusting the water level switch?
I have a similar problem but not as much water on the side of my house so I bought the Milwaukee transfer stick pump but didn’t really work for me cause the water that was staying behind was not enough or high enough to get pumped with the stick transfer pump. So I wanted to know how low will it work pumping the water before it stops? Was thinking of getting something like this or the drill pump one they have.
If i used the pump to a garden hose and had a nozzle at the end of the hose. And i turned turned the nozzle off, would backflow or backpressure burn it up?
I used a nozzle for a while with one and had it shit off periodically but not for an extended time. Nothing changed but i dont know if extended periods of blocked flow would matter
Sorry to hear. I have 2 of them and both are used regularly and still work. I would think there is a switch inside that may have gone bad or gotten messed up somehow. If it doesnt work already there is no risk in ruining it by opening it up to take a look. Be careful if you plug it in while opened up tho.
Strange thing happened with this exact pump. It turns on and pumps in the bathtub, or a puddle on the ground….it will not turn on to pump rain water off my roof. I suspect the water on the roof is too “soft”, or clean for the electronic sensors to pick up…no mineral content in the water. I put dirt around the pump on the roof and it began to pump water, but it didn’t last long.
I’ve had issues with these working right in cold weather. Seems like water just around 33 degrees, not frozen of course makes them not turn on. Starts with turning on for just a few seconds and then right back off. I’m using it for pool cover pump. Ice and snow just all melted and now won’t turn on. I bring it inside and put it into a sink to test, it turns on and runs just fine. I have two that do the same thing. I don’t know why, but I hope someone can make some suggestions on what could cause this. I’ve also tried different outlets and everything. Also brought out a large bucket of water to test. I can take it off the pool cover and put directly into the bucket and it works fine. Water was from inside so warmer obviously.
I have two of them working in temps just above freezing. It rained and the ground was frozen so it all ran off to the corner of our yard. They worked and got the job done. But i could see how the cold temps might be a problem.
I've seem similar issues with a similar pump in frozen weather. I didn't do anything special; when it melted, the pump resumed to working fine. I'd hope that the float switch got frozen in the off position, and the pump never ran. I'd have to look at the directions of mine to see if they say anything about use where the water around the pump could freeze.
I have about 4 foot of water I need pumped. Can you put this thing all the way under including the wire into the water? Or does the wire need to stay above the water?
@@thehandyhomeowner9781 I'm assuming the 13ft restriction is the maximum amount of vertical rise it can pump water. I'd agree that anything less than that should be fine.
Measured the line on thw side of the unit at 1.75 inchs from the bottom. . or slightly more with the base on it. It definitely wont get an area bone dry. Best if there is a low area where water collects that way it will pump out most of it and leave you with a puddle around it in the low spot.
I should have put this in the video but i forgot it was on the side of the pump. 1 3/4 inches without the base. Just about 2 with the base. That's to turn on. It turns off when the level is near the base. 1/2 inch or less. .
@@thehandyhomeowner9781 cause i was using it on my pool and all the sudden it turned off and it wont turn on. But the water on the pool is less than 3/4 so that might be the problem pkus it has the base on
Oh. Ya. Take a look at the side of the pump on that little bump out. Mine had writing that said water has to be at that level to turn on. But it will stay on until lower than that...for me it seems about half inch. In a pool that could still be alot of water though. Depending on the size of the pool. I only use the base out in the yard where there is more debris to keep out of it.

Thank you. Yes. Well enough. Appreciate it.
You need the 1 inch hookup for that much water, but I love the base
I agree 1 inch would move alot more water. Since has a 3/4 adapter i am comfortable using that and it moves enough water for me.

Hey there. Yes. You are hearing the check valve that closes to not let the water back into the pump when it shuts off.

Interesting. I figured it would only matter if it is deep enough.
those freaking clips cause me to almost loose a thumbnail!
How about it?! They are terrible. Lol
How are they holding up?
Still use them both regularly. One is in the garage (poor drainage) and the other is used to pump water to our garden every week or more.
Is this fully submersible?
Can it be used to drain a pool ?
Yes. I have it fully submerged often
Came to this video because I couldn't get the base back off. Can I ask how you removed it to shave the clips?
The tabs on the side need to just be pressed harder. Good luck. That was why i shaved them down
Same here. I wrestled with it for probably 30 minutes. My mom wedged in a screwdriver and it popped open almost instantly 😅
@@TheDogsarebestThanks! I also used a screwdriver after spending way too long trying with my fingers!
It didn't even get to the water level as advertised. Any suggestions?
I'd recommend returning it or asking the folks at harbor freight.

It is usubmersible and The instructions say not to lower to a depth of more than 13 ft. I can only assume you would be fine with four feet.

Model number? Price? How low will it take the water level down to? (1/2”, 1/4”, etc….).
Still working well?
Thanks
I still use them regularly to drain a low spot in the corner of the yard and yes they still work well after a couple years.
Don’t you need 2 inches of water depth before it starts?
I believe it's close to that. Yes.
Is it safe if the electric cord is in the water?
Yes it is a submersible pump.

Harbor Freight
