That carving came out great. Just a couple of questions: why the double mount? It would have been much easier to mount the slate directly to the house. Did you consider countersinking the screws? And maybe you could give them a dab of slate colored paint - but then again, you may like the golden colored screws 😊

I have made cement pots. I wanted to turn into a planter. I had to drill a hole into the pot, and many years ago, I saw a tip I still use today. Before drilling, I put an X with painters tape on the part of the pot I will be drilling. It does a good job of preventing cracks in the cement. It would have also helped that piece of slate from cracking. You did a good job, but those kinds of material can be a hit or miss. The tape does add a bit of protection.

Unfortunately Steve, the links for UK only are actually US only… I triple checked the first 2 links, and the slate couldn’t be delivered to the uk, and the hammer was priced in dollars.

I tried to follow your UK link for the gilding glue (I always have such a disaster gilding) but it tries to change my app to Amazon US? Could someone please let me know what the name of the gilding glue is please? I love this idea and am thinking of re-coating our, painted on the wall, number like this so really don’t want to mess it up. Thanks ☺️
