Johan Ogie EDM is EDM. Dubstep is not the newest, it originated in the late 90's. Was popular around 2002-2005 then resurfaced in 2008ish. There is new genres and they're great in my opinion but this melodic dubstep will can never be topped. EDM genres seem to recycle so I'm sure dubstep will come back. Hardstyle is slowly coming back which is cool.
The first roots in dubstep do not belong here. Made in 2005, Midnight Request Line by Skream, was some old school dubstep, and I believe to be one of the first successful dubstep songs. Yes, it is quite different, because other artists later began adding more and more harshness into dubstep, morphing the hell out of it. Then Skrillex happened, making it so harsh that all we get today is the same repetitive songs.

My older brother got me into what is now classic dubstep when I was a little kid growing up and i still always come back to listen to pure nostalgia, nothing can beat dubstep like they did back then.

But good music will always be there, we just need to be open minded and go with the evolution of sound, music.

The first roots in dubstep do not belong here. Made in 2005, Midnight Request Line by Skream, was some old school dubstep, and I believe to be one of the first successful dubstep songs. Yes, it is quite different, because other artists later began adding more and more harshness into dubstep, morphing the hell out of it. Then Skrillex happened, making it so harsh that all we get today is the same repetitive songs.

And yes, while Skream (and pretty much all early-age dubstep producers) are excellent artists, you can't say that dubstep was further ruined as time passed.
1) This is a matter of opinion. There is no right, wrong, ruining, or perfecting.
2) If you can't handle the evolution of a genre, then don't even mention it. Dubstep has evolved greatly in the last 3-4 years alone, sound-wise and technologically.
So what if artists want to go all out and make the craziest, harshest songs you've ever heard? In the end, music is all for fun anyway.
Anyway, there's one thing we can agree on: Skrillex sucks. Although he's done a lot of things for the EDM community (and has even released a FEW good songs), he's basically ruined a lot of people's distinction between different electronic music genres.

My older brother got me into what is now classic dubstep when I was a little kid growing up and i still always come back to listen to pure nostalgia, nothing can beat dubstep like they did back then.

Many comments about how much people miss Dubstep and I understand but, it's not just Dubstep, good music comes through every decade and just like that it goes away, many of you have great memories with this music and that is the reason you miss it, many have great memories with several types of music in different decades, for some is Hard haouse, I had the most amazing years with that music in the 90's, I even used to D.J. some others have drum and bass, dark step, basic house, progressive, trip hop, E.T.C. it all comes down to what you like the most and what is "IN" at that moment, you enjoy it with your friends and out it goes, new music will come along and the cycle starts again, it's also part of getting older. But good music will always be there, we just need to be open minded and go with the evolution of sound, music.

Dubstep was a pretty sizable departure from most other forms of electronic music, and with the advent of the internet and RUclips, it had a platform to reach the world immediately. It changed our generation's views on and taste in music for sure. You don't even have to like true dubstep - it (and music like it) was just so huge in the late 00s that it led to a massive boom in electronic music in general that's still very apparent to this day. Pretty cool to have watched it all unfold, right from the beginning.
