      All the Who roles were shaken up from a traditional band. With his simplistic chord patterns, Pete was more of the time-keeper. With his crazy bass runs, Entwhistle was closer to the lead guitarist. And with his wild flourishes, Keith Moon was closer to a keyboardist.

    I agree. Entwistle was basically a much freer, more adventurous player.
    More technically, Entwistle had a lot more plucking methods at his disposal; he was also more of in innovator in terms of sound. Also he participated in the design of Rotosound strings and of most of his own basses. He was more innovative than Lee.

    • @eroldcroft3045
      @eroldcroft3045 Год назад +2

      Geddy is a composite of his favorite bassists. The ox and Chris squire. By tor and the snow dog is a direct descendent of the ox on young man blues. Geddy is way more melodic in his approach. The ox is more percussive. Chris squire was a thinking man's bassist. I adore all three.
      I could put as a fourth Greg lake in rock realms. You start getting into jazz, forget it. Stanley Clarke, jaco. Marcus Miller.....
      But the ox had his signature. He did change the way a rock bass was viewed. As killer as jack Bruce is, the ox made him look like a schoolboy.

    I attended a Who concert in Detroit in 1982. I had binoculars, which I kept focused on Entwistle. His hands -- right and left -- were like this *all the time,* not just for solos. That's the thing about Entwistle *live* -- he was filling in on lead when Townshend was doing rhythm. Listen to the song "Substitute" from the Live at Leeds album. Pete's guitar riff is relatively simple, which he repeats. Everything else is Entwistle on bass. His live bass work was way more than the bass lines on the studio albums.

    John Alec Entwistle (Chiswick, Londres, Inglaterra, 9 de octubre de 1944-Las Vegas, Nevada, Estados Unidos, 27 de junio de 2002) fue un músico, compositor y productor británico, más conocido por su trabajo como bajista del grupo británico de Rock The Who. Fue el único miembro del grupo en tener una formación musical formal, y su sonido característico influyó a otros bajistas de Rock. Entró en el Salón de la Fama del Rock and Roll como miembro de The Who en 1990.

It has been often said that he plays bass like a piano, and this li'l video spotlights that style very well.

    His hand movements were very much exaggerated. There are bassists who can play traditional bass riffs better. What made him great is that he wasn't technically a bassist at all. He was a guitarist who happened to use a bass. He played a bass as if it were a lead instrument, and his riffs were designed to not just be in the background like bass riffs, but to act as a counter and compliment to Pete Townsend's guitar.

      You obviously know nothing about the bass guitar, or John Entwistle.

    If I had to rebuild Primus without using Primus members, this man would be my bassist (and he could probably learn slap overnight)

      John probably wouldnt even need slap his technique is already very similar to the sound you get from slapping

      @@adamswing6115 Coming back to my statement after a year, I never did figure out who the theoretical guitar/drums/vocals should be. Primus is such an irreplaceably unique crew.
