I’ve SO been wanting to send you a new Sweden flag! Now that people are coming to see you from Sweden, PLEASE have them bring you one. Your flag has seen better days and many miles. Love across the miles.
I didn't even recognize Honolulu anymore. I lived in Oahu for 6 mos. back in 1960.....yeah, I'm old as dirt. It is hard for me to understand how you two keep the names of the same things clear in your minds.....each thing has two names, Swedish and English. More names if you know other languages. Just thinking about it boggles my mind....not to mention the meanings of words and how to string them together! Smarter than me. The heated discharge into the ocean has been hard on the coral. This was another interesting and enjoyable episode.....thank you!
When in the US Navy I lived in Honolulu from 1968-1970. Back then the cheapest way to live on Oahu was on a boat moored in the Ala Wai basin. Needless to say there were many "houseboats" and pre-owned boats of questionable seaworthiness used for inexpensive housing. Back then the requirement was that once a year every boat needed to cast off and travel out and around the first sea buoy to prove it was seaworthy. For long term residents it was always on the same day. The local TV station always sent a reporter and cameraman to film the attempts. Every year one or more of the boats did not make it. Some capsized or sank. There was always police boats or Coast Guard boats nearby in the event of minor disasters. It sounds like that simple legal requirement is still in force.
Tip for the mask: take a lighter and burn out the silicon layer on the inside of the glass till it turns black. Clean it afterwards and use baby shampoo to defog your mask before each dive. But don’t rinse it straight away! Make sure it dries. If the mask fogs up during the dive, add a little water from the bottom of the mask, move your head around to clean it, then clear your mask the usual way. Hope you see this and have even more fun on your future dive adventures!
Ha ha, Johan, the marina got it all wrong. When you got to Buoy #1 and called in they were supposed to tell you they were full and to come back tomorrow.
That crazy motorized surfboard! I asked a fleet member of our class of small racing keelboat who lives in Hawaii. He tells me these guys are octopus fishermen on the reefs , they snorkel around with a leash to their boat/ board in the shallow water looking for octopus and apparently not keel boats sailing thru the narrow channels on the reefs! Cheers Warren
I absolutely adore how beautiful and innocent Malin is while you travel. I pray I hold onto a level of exuberance and excitement like hers when I finally make the leap into sailing myself. Thank you so much to the both of you for all the videos you put so much work into.
Well I have finished a binge watch of all of your videos, all I can say is thank you for sharing your grand adventure, your calmness under pressure and shear joy in experiencing new places and people puts a smile on my face each and every time I watch. Thank you both and I look forward to seeing more. Dave from NZ
My hometown. I was living there 1960 to 1965. In 1960 it became a state. It was pure paradise then. Its still beautiful but the tall buildings did not exist much back then. Its still feels like home to me. Thanks for the videos.
Put a four or five drops of baby shampoo in a small bottle of water. Squirt some of the solution in your mask and scrub around with your fingers then rinse in the sea water. Works like a champ. Learned from a dive operation when I asked what they were using. They grinned and told me it was a secret recipe!!
Yup, Its an island can't bring plants, insect or anything to harm the land. we never had potato's or killer bees till someone brought them here, Or Swedish meatballs but that's a good thing... Be safe thank you for showing us the world around you...
The fogging problems with your dive masks is from the left over silicone from the manufacturer of the masks. This gets on the glass lens. To remove it use a soft cloth with toothpaste on it. Clean the lens with a circular motion to remove the silicone from the glass lens. Wash off the toothpaste and use any baby no tears shampoo. I call this "Secrets Spit". I have over 2000 dives and it works great. Love your video's.
Mahalo for sharing your adventures every single Friday for 108 weeks. That's impressive and much appreciated. Looking forward to your Alaska and BC, Canada explorations soon.
Really enjoyable. I always hope to listen to the music of the place because it really helps convey the feeling of being there when combined with such excellent videos. Thank you so much.
when your mask fogs up while diving you can rum normal dish washing detergent all of the the inside of the glass and the silicon, leave it for 10 minutes then wash it off. Before diving then just spit in mask and rub it around then rinse, I was a scuba diving instructor for 30 years and it always worked for me
22:47 my favorite shot from the entire series so far! I don't know what that is you're trying to photograph, but it looks very interesting. AND this showcases the challenges of underwater videography, and the life of a seafaring RUclipsr quite nicely!
If you are coming to Canada in the future, make sure you visit Vancouver Island. Beautiful cruising and a warm welcome awaits you at the Ladysmith Community Marina!
DIVING MASK FOGGING - Best trick...use a lighter. Heat the glass from de inside slowly till it becomes black, and then use dishwashing soap. Do it twice if necessary. That will get rid of the unmolding compound used to cast the rubber mask which leaves a greasy layer on the glass. Don't be affraid of damaging the rubber skirt, just apply the flamme on the glass....the rubber will hold that without problem.
I had not watched RAN sailing from the first or second episode in Hawaii, and then speculated Australia or New Zealand, or even Asia such as the Japanese fish Market, though it's North to Alaska. Sitka is nice rainy town, "Paris of the Pacific" they call it, lot of hippies and such. lol,, You can get a good bread bowl clam chowder and beer for reasonable price. Groceries are expensive, 6 dollars US a loaf in 98. Well the old Russian cemetery is interesting, mostly all decapitated concrete angles. No worries though it's mysterious. I liked for several weeks visiting a high school friend. There was a college there though I believe it closed. When I left to drive south to Montana when I got home I built a Umak. You may know this vessel. It is an old style with no tumble home in the hull. Well it sits in front yard for decade then some. Humm.. Well safe sailing, and exploring the great north country. Maybe next the Bering sea, lol. I always want to go to Nome. Humm.. ya the oceanography book I read says the seas get terrible shallow contributing to a washboard effect.
I liked the video footage of Johan and his friend diving into the cold Atlantic waters. Some people think that whales breach the surface for food or fun, but really, it's because the water is just too cold ;-)
We just love you two’s. Another great vid. Even if it’s crowded tourista Wiki Wiki anywhere in Hawaii is paradise. We’re surprised your heading north instead of south to Polynesia. On your way to Alaska please stop in San Francisco, dinner is on me & Carol. Enjoy paradise.
WOW !! That 24 min went by sooooo fast !! What a lovely vlog and nice to see you both in good spirits. Interesting way to check in, yet I get the strategy. Fair winds !! ✨🥂✨⛵️⚓️🚣✨
It was fun watching this video because it brought back good memories. We spent two weeks at the Hale Koa 16 years ago. I hope you have an enjoyable stay in Hawaii. We really enjoy following your adventures.
Maybe Rain X would help with fogging issue. Designed for windshield on vehicles, but also works on mirrors in bathrooms that get covered in condensation. Should be available in most car accessory stores.
So beautiful underwater footage! Thank you for all the great videos. I follow you since the beginning of your trip and I‘m always looking forward to the next friday (which means also your next video). 👍🏻
Your experience with Hawaii State ineptitude is spot on. Government employees are "lifers" here, and really don't care about how well they do their jobs because they can't be fired. Sorry about that, but at least you got a slip!
State of hawaii runs the airports too but soon that job is going to be contracted out. Thats good and bad. I expect airport fees will be going even higher but i expect it to be better run. We shall see...
You can drive a rental car all the way up into the crater, they have a parking lot. Also in Hawaii you can not touch a turtle but in Mexico you can. also whale sharks you can touch while diving.
I've lived on Oahu for 30 years. I had sailboats but stayed at La Mariana which is a private marina in Keehi. 10 bucks per foot per month. Free electric, hawaiian style bar/resturant. Government run marinas suck. Yes, call them and you will get different answers depending who you talk to. I now have a boat at the Marine Corps marina in Kane'ohe bay. Whole different atmosphere than Honolulu. Hope you were able to check Kbay out. There is a big sandbar in the middle of the bay everyone parties at.
Another fantastic video...thanks for sharing! All the issues with the boat etc are now fixed so just enjoy what life is all about...being with friends and family!! Keep safe and well
For the mask fogging also try this. 1) pour some cold water in mask from a bottle that was frozen 2) cool face down 3) put a few drops of baby oil in mask.
Great video, as always. Love to watch your channel. And as someone has already mentioned, prepping the new mask with tooth paste removes the protective coating which causes the fogging. My dive buddies swear by baby shampoo as defogger, but I think that spit is just about the only thing that doesn't burn my eyes while diving.
We have to do this drill every year and we live here. The inspector comes out, suppose to ride with us out to the bouy but instead stays on the pier and watches. Then when we radio him he gives us the ok to come back in. When we get to the pier he is gone. Happens every year.
You are only a few slips from a friend of mine,Mikey, who has a power boat. He is backed in up by the curve. He did have a lot of junk on board. He is an excellent mechanic, well versed in electrical and knows a lot of folks! If you see him, tell him Lynn said aloha1 I have used him many times while doing deliveries including an engine swap and fuel polishing.
LOL Johan, love your approach to mixing two component epoxy, no dillidalli here, just mix it all up at once and pump it into the mast. well done. totally agree, that urethane foam don't seem like a great solution, the epoxy is smooth and waterproof, and now drains correctly.
The key to not have fog in your mask is to spit into it whilst it is dry, rub it around with your finger then rinse it just before you put it on for your dive. It is important that the inside of the lens is dry when you spit into it. I have been diving for 40 years now and never had a problem
You had some misfortune getting here,I am sorry to here that, but after getting settled properly in the marina,I'm sure your stay here is going to be awesome.Another lovely video, love watching you guys, thankyou👍😊
Hey guys. Saw you mentioned Alaska and Canada. If you're going to come down the west coast to Vancouver I can give some good anchorages in the gulf islands and advice on where to stay in Vancouver.
Have you tried scrubbing the inside of your mask with Crest toothpaste? it works really good. Just make sure to really work it all over the inside of the lens good
We too were in Honolulu at the same time as you. I tried to find you, but it didn’t work out. I so wanted to meet you and possibly have taken you all out to dinner. Well maybe we will catch up again in some exotic port. Smooth seas
I think it was on a Delos episode that they took a new mask and used a lighter to run flame across the anti-fog coating on the inside of the mask. It's not something I've ever tried, so I can't say whether it works well.
i don't do scuba diving but i go snorkeling almost every day, here are my 2 cents: i use the trusted spit-in-your-mask-and-rub-it-in-technique but i've found that you shouldn't rinse it too thoroughly, just dip it into the water quickly to rinse out the excess saliva, then put on the mask. sometimes i need to repeat the process once or twice until it works... make sure the whole surface area of the glass was covered in spit, if you miss a spot, the fogging up will start from there and spread.
I’ve SO been wanting to send you a new Sweden flag! Now that people are coming to see you from Sweden, PLEASE have them bring you one. Your flag has seen better days and many miles. Love across the miles.

At precisely 15:43 and then again at 15:56 I finally became bilingual. I understood your Swedish perfectly.
Malin has the best portrayal of a shark!!
I absolutely adore how beautiful and innocent Malin is while you travel. I pray I hold onto a level of exuberance and excitement like hers when I finally make the leap into sailing myself. Thank you so much to the both of you for all the videos you put so much work into.

My family met my dad on R+R (1967) at Ft DeRussey! My wife and I visited in 2016, I didn't recognize the place!
Put a four or five drops of baby shampoo in a small bottle of water. Squirt some of the solution in your mask and scrub around with your fingers then rinse in the sea water. Works like a champ. Great episode .... again! Loved your sang froid in the face of ridiculous bureaucracy. 👍🤭😉
Sea trials cracking me up. Hang in there RAN

You are one of the best VLOG series i‘ve found. Thank you.
40, 50, 60 thousand views , don’t need to say anymore, brilliant thanks
You can put those placards on the insides of the cabinet drawers, so you do not have to look at them all the time. Messes up the woodwork..
Great video! We laughed at your tactful and diplomatic display all matters authority related. You guys are a fantastic example to sailors.

So glad you found a reasonable place to stay. Try to enjoy yourselves. Thanks for taking us along.

I always wanted to visit there, thanks for taking me along 👍
When I searched on "Northwest Passage", this episode of RAN was returned. Is RUclips being prescient?
Hm, that's strange! But glad that they show our videos :)
If you are coming to Canada in the future, make sure you visit Vancouver Island. Beautiful cruising and a warm welcome awaits you at the Ladysmith Community Marina!
You two are amazing. Best sailing videos on youtube
Incredible undersea footage, awesome video!! Thanks for sharing. 😍😍⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵😍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊
You certainly are like all the other sailing channels, keep it up.

Aloha! Little boat work, little diving, little night life, what a life!
Great scuba diving and awesome fireworks.
Mask fogging up. Johnson’s baby shampoo works every time. Place a few dots in , rub it and then rinse in the water pre dive. Great Vlog as always 👍

It was fun watching this video because it brought back good memories. We spent two weeks at the Hale Koa 16 years ago. I hope you have an enjoyable stay in Hawaii. We really enjoy following your adventures.
Ran got the run around.
Great video with underwater footage. Bit out of the ordinary those local marina customs just to see if you can sail LOL
Looking forward to your adventures in Alaska and BC in Canada.
Maybe Rain X would help with fogging issue. Designed for windshield on vehicles, but also works on mirrors in bathrooms that get covered in condensation. Should be available in most car accessory stores.
Awesome!
fantastic guys
I remember being under those fireworks, first time I actually felt them was there.
Can’t quit watching you two. Another fantastic trip. ,,,,,,,,/),,,,,,,,, fair winds.
One of the best episode yet. Nicely done. Love watching you and so inspiring!!

Once again your ingenuity is amazing! What a beautiful place...Great vid!
Very nice I hope you will show more about the islands have a nice weekend

We sprayed a product called Corrosion X throughout our aluminum airplane. It creeps really well. Great to see inside the wall of Diamond Head.
Great episode guys thumbs up !
Aloha. We love your videos. Appreciate your efforts and sharing. Fairwinds.
I love Hawaii. Spent two months on Maui last yr. never should have came back.
You had some misfortune getting here,I am sorry to here that, but after getting settled properly in the marina,I'm sure your stay here is going to be awesome.Another lovely video, love watching you guys, thankyou👍😊
Beautiful Hawaii!
thanks for sharing,,
Loved this episode . Thanks guys
I'll catch this when I get back ... hålla le!
No more holes that mast will break in a storm.
Another great video. Loved the trip to Diamond Head, I did that also. ⛵🚣🌺🌴🌴☔👫😃😁

I got dive certified on the big island 3 years ago. I got to see a hawaiian munk seal and a false killer whale and eagle ray.
Awesome!
i don't do scuba diving but i go snorkeling almost every day, here are my 2 cents:
i use the trusted spit-in-your-mask-and-rub-it-in-technique but i've found that you shouldn't rinse it too thoroughly, just dip it into the water quickly to rinse out the excess saliva, then put on the mask. sometimes i need to repeat the process once or twice until it works...
make sure the whole surface area of the glass was covered in spit, if you miss a spot, the fogging up will start from there and spread.
sure, you can and it does work however- toothpaste works better just rinse before use.
