    Okay, I'm a ballistics nerd. This is absolutely not how it works in most plates. I assume they mean a plate carrier, because a kevlar bullet proof vest would not stop a 7.62x39 round.
    First, there are multiple different kinds of plates. Some use polyethylene only, some use polyethylene and ceramic, some use ceramic and aramid, some use all three. There's also steel plates, but if you value your cartoid artery, testicles, and your back (weight), you stay away from those. I've never even heard of a vertex layer and I've been studying how to stop bullets for more than 20 years.
    Primarily, ceramic plates are used to cause a rifle round to fragment up and greatly reduce velocity of projectiles into manageable bits for the aramid fiber to "catch" and stop. Polyethylene is kinda wild, it uses the heat generated by the hot projectile and the heat from the rotation of the bullet to solidify and slow the bullet for the aramid behind it to stop. It doesn't work with steel core or true armor piercing rounds though, unless there's a sufficiently hard enough ceramic plate in front of it to slow and fragment the core. The primary bullet stopper is the aramid or polyethylene, and the ceramic in front of it breaks up the bullet. Also, there should never be a bullet protruding through last layer. Even by a little bit. That's considered a failure to stop, even if it doesn't wound/kill the wearer.

      Does a bullet need time to speed up to maximum speed, or is at maximum speed at exit from chamber or barrel?

    • @TheGhostOfPatrickHenry
      @TheGhostOfPatrickHenry 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@jakkritphanomchit Uhmmm... I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but I'll attempt to answer regardless. The fastest a projectile will ever be is when it exits the barrel. Typically, or to a certain length depending on the cartridge, the longer the barrel, the faster the bullet goes. There's dimishing returns and it even becomes detrimental to velocity at a certain length. This is why shorter barrels reduce velocity. Depending on the cartridge and projectile, they will usually roughly hold muzzle velocity speed for 10-25yards, and it's all downhill from there.

    • @jakkritphanomchit
      @jakkritphanomchit 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@TheGhostOfPatrickHenry your first sentence answers my question exactly, thanks. I was wondering whether a bullet might continue spreading up after having left the barrel. So that there would be an optimum distance from the target to achieve highest velocity on impact. From what your saying though the highest velocity on impact would be if the barrel was against the target, ir perhaps at a short distance, before it starts losing speed. It makes sense too, because the bullet only accelerates at the beginning of it's journey. I wasn't sure, but you sounded like the right person to ask. In any case, the furthest one is away from the shooter, the better a proof vest wo hold up.

      Yeah I read on different manufacturers sites the ratings. The rigid plates are astounding in stopping power but the thicknesses are pretty heavy - the Titanium plate was 0.7” I think, steel was 0.4? Ceramic I saw one at over an inch thick. My nephew was infantry in the 1990’s in Yugoslavia, to man the gun in the turret he got a heavy metal fish scale thing that he said was rated for 7.62x54R AP, but it impeded his mobility. I think the violence of the felt impact is the frequency content. In other words, that energy comes in fast and the stiff plate all moves back extremely fast, not that far but really fast, so the shock will enter a lot of tissue and a shear wave (tearing wave) will form. I bet survivors have interesting bruises.

      There were a few more grammatical errors. "If I remove... then there are these...lastly this polyethylene layer. Firstly the bullet... lastly, bullet will come.."
      There are only 4 layers if you remove the covering. If you don't remove the covering "then" there is only one layer 😂
      "These" specific layers are present in every vest as they actually exist in an alternate dimension, and "these four layers" can be present in 1,000 vests at the same time.
      I cant think of another joke but "Firstly," English is a conglomerate language made from primarily Latin and Germanic languages. Secondly, English also has many Greek, Yiddish and Uralic words as well as some Celtic words like "German." Lastly, it's understandable when someone makes a common mistake.
      When referring to a sequence of events it's "first and last/finally." He forgot the word "the" before "bullet." I guess this is a bullet named Bullet. 😅
