7:39 No, you're not making sense. Every single point of confusion that you've levied can be easily understood if you actually WATCH the movie and PAY ATTENTION to the characters and story beats. There is subtlety, which lends to its brilliance, but I guess it's just too subtle for some.
The female character in the movie said it best... "WHY?". Why even have a replacement, she couldn't live alone for a year? Why wasn't it obvious in advance that the woman could develop an attachment to the replacement?. Why do they have flying cars and space travel in the future but not internet or modern tools? Why the needless drama of handcuffing the replacement to the floor while the woman and real husband watch? Whose house was it that burned down, and why were there half a dozen 'agents' conveniently standing outside the house so they could prevent the replacement from running into the fire?
I've never heard so much nonsense in my life. Foe is a brilliant film, well directed, great story, FANTASTIC script, amazing acting. Absolutely bonkers review.
I read the book and was excited for this movie. While I enjoyed the book, I had turned off the movie 3 separate times attempting to finish it but only made it to 40 minute mark. Book is good but movie is so bad 😢. The author of Foe had another book made into a movie called “I’m thinking of ending things” which I thought was done pretty well.
I really appreciate your review and found it helpful and loved the fact that you did spoiler to explain. I'm only half way through but wasn't sure if i wanted to continue wasting my life force on watching it
Pls continue. I felt the same way on the half, but was super glad that i continued. My experience was so much different that this one. You may not like it, but saying it's a bad film is unrealistic.
@@lucasrocha6475 YES, I finished it and I did actually enjoy it. Even though I wasn't 100% happy with the ending, I still ended up enjoying the story and found myself thinking of the movie days later (which is always a good thing). I wish I had powered through the movie without the spoiler (I would have liked to see if I had the same feelings about it) but at the same time I am glad I had the understanding to unlock all the elements of the film. Very cool and thank you for the encouragement!
(spoilers) the reason why he only said 'i miss you' after being gone for a year and a half is because they dont love each other anymore, and that is shown in -as you said- the only 5 minutes of the film where the 2 original couple are together. She fell in love with the AI version of him because it wasn't him now, it was him when they first met, same for him with Hen's AI replacement. I think the 'sci-fi' bit in this movie is less about outer space and more about human-like connections. I agree that the movie is missing the wow factor but i dont think it's bad at all
(Spoilers) Because I like Saoirse Rohan and Paul Mescal and sci-fi, I watched Foe. They gave great, nuanced performances. But, oh man, questioned my decision to watch many times, yet powered through. @3.07 - 🤣 @ 8.27 - exactly! And.... Why didn't it take the same lengthy process to make AI Hen as it did to make AI Junior? Why was Terrance so creepy? @9.35 - totally. Furthermore, I understand Junior had a mission, but why would the "powers that be" do anything for Hen just so she could leave? The movie has mostly left me feeling annoyed.
Thanks for watching! A film being bad or good is all subjective, so I’m confident in calling it a bad film, in my opinion. Glad it worked for you though! Jealous, even!
I completely agree with this review. It was a great film but so bad at the same time. It sucked but the whole time I was like… what if? It was insanity. It felt like dementia personified. I tried to place myself into it and think philosophically, which lead me down some very dark thoughts. Thankfully, I’ve arrived at an objective conclusion. The conclusion was, do everything to please God. Ask Him, is a clone ai, a person? If not, it’s just another robot or animal and should be treated as such. If God for His own reasons, put a soul into this clone, then we’re talking different things. The black guy was such a good character. His job was to get the watcher to feel angry at his manipulation and it worked. A lot of the questions he was asking, I’d ask myself and be like really angry that it was asked. But of course I solved that too with prayer to the Lord and meditation on His word. Overall terrible film but excellent philosophical questions.
Even if i haven t paid to watch this movie, i felt i got scammed, one of the worst movies ever, it s 1H50 long and after 40 minutes you understand that the movie is so slow, like a lots movie, the beginning is the best part of the movie, they could have made this film 25 minutes max with what they had on script.
This is an absolute 100% gold standard dud. Charlie Brooker did the concept so much better . . . . great cast, terrible screenplay and a pointless waste of time. Very frustrating, very annoying and very disappointing.
I never made it to the end of this tedious movie. There is only so much "climate change" bullshit I can handle, and that is all this piece of crap was: another idiotic vehicle for "the message."

This movie went way over his head. He literally didn’t understand a single thing that was going on.

And why they didn t sent the clone in space and kept the husband home.

I thought it was positively gastly.
This has got to be sarcastic
@@catchyt51 it's not. But you don't have to agree with me. You do you,.
Agreed. The brilliance of FOE is matched only by the confounding ignorance of so called "film criticism." I don't get it.

I'll watch "the island" 100 times before I'll watch this again

Loved this movie
The movie is great. Critics hive mind taking shit
And if everyone liked it that wouldn't be "hive mind"? Give me a break.
That seems to be the case. Critics with no original thought simply finding reasons to hate FOE..... because of peer pressure?

This is a dumb review
One of the worst I've ever seen.
Its a lame movie about a failed marriage set in a dystopian future where ai is a BS replacement for the human condition.
👏 That is it in a nutshell ! Nuff said.
