Lyrics: Never took your side, never cursed your name I keep my lips shut tight, until you go And we've come as far as we’re ever gonna get Until you realise, that you should go Come in misery, where you can seem as old as your omens And the mother we share Will never keep your proud head from falling The way is long, but you can make it easy on me And the mother we share Will never keep our cold heart from calling In the dying light, I’m the only one here And I will cover you, until you go 'Cause if I told the truth, I would always be free And keep a prize with me, until you go Come in misery, where you can seem as old as your omens And the mother we share Will never keep your proud head from falling The way is long, but you can make it easy on me And the mother we share Will never keep our cold heart from calling Into the night, for once, we’re the only ones left I bet you even know, where we could go-o-o-oh And when it all fucks up, you put your head in my hands It’s a souvenir for when you go Come in misery, where you can seem as old as your omens And the mother we share Will never keep your proud head from falling The way is long, but you can make it easy on me And the mother we share Will never keep our cold heart from calling
Shabaka Smkss But the song gets completely cut when going through the tunnel on the highway (to simulate how a radio signal gets cut when entering a deep tunnel in real life.) Not ideal tho.
Shabaka Smkss yeah a highway expansion would be great. Also adding the option to turn off the fading of songs while in tunnels will be a nice addition.
Shabaka Smkss Yeah I know what u mean they should make that part of the map accessible. I agree with you I don’t like games getting rushed. I prefer when it takes sometime to create a game so it can be as polished as possible. What do you mean 5 years bro, since FH2 was released? Yeah I agree it’s a long time but some moments and memories feel like they happened like 1 year ago max or even way less. It’s weird I know
CHVRCHES literally saved my life with each of their albums. I am a rap guy, I listen to everything but mainly hip-hop. But I remember listening to CHVRCHES during the greatest moments of my life. 13 hour train ride to Ottawa staring out the windows listening to them. Brings a tear to a my eye... the mere thought of how different life is compared to 5 years ago. Before the heartbreak, before the hurt, before the jaded. Brings me back to when I was 22 and 23, wide-eyed and heart open. Thank you CHVRCHES for making me feel something that has been eternal. It started with this song, and I am still here.
this album is a masterpiece. I would almost go so far to say that it was ahead of its time. It sounds like the past, present and the future all combined. It truly aged tremendously
what a song, it has grown on me over the course of the past 9 years, especially towards the back end of last year. I am going through a period of great change in my life as I near adulthood, and this tune brings back happy memories while also pulling on my heartstrings for what lies ahead in my future. The Mother We Share genuinely brought tears to my eyes

***** Everything. The bigger and taller you are, the more masculine you are expected to be. It's something most big guys understand, but most of us are usually softer than we appear. xP
To me this song feels like it's about a girl who has an old soul and is way ahead of her time and generation which isolates her from the world. She hasn't yet found her place and it leaves her stuck in her own mind feeling unable to show her insecurities and is to proud to admit her loneliness. So she seeks help from her Mother, a mother that everyone shares, Mother Nature (the earth), a spiritual calling for help... but the sad truth is Mother Nature doesn't stop one from falling and though the earth's nature can give a sort of calm and comfort when escaping the life among people. Mother Nature is cruel as well as it's circle of life still continues, even with our pleads to live a little longer and the basic human needs we seek but may lack, which for her may be due to not fitting in with society and her community.
@@chooperl375 It's just how I see it, may not be what it's intended to mean. They write all their lyrics to be able to allow their listeners to have their own way of connecting to the song and to be able to develop their own meaning to it as well.
For me "The Mother we share", is the common bond and history, between two people, the singer and her ex partner. As they are splitting up and going their separate ways [we've come as far, as we're ever going to get] she's reminding him that it wasn't all bad. The past (mother) they share is part what has made them who they are, for better or for worse. The good and the bad bits are what provide them with the emotional resilience to keep their proud heads from falling. Just my take, no right or wrongs.
I feel like an absolute fossil that this song is almost a decade old, how is that humanly possible? brings me straight back to being in the begining of college and not an underemployed grad.
Having grown up with the music of the 70s & 80s, this group certainly strikes a nerve. Techno with heart is hard to pull off and they do it well. It's not superficial and you can feel the Go Go's, UB40, and the numerous solo girl acts that swamped the airwaves 30 some years ago. Pretty good shiznit right there, brother.
If you like this, then you should give M83 i try. Same vibe, but with a lot more experimental sounds. Especially midnight city and we own the sky are good.
It's actually the story of the 2 Eve's: the one wandering is Lillith, the one who was cast into the desert and the blonde is the second Eve telling her she never cursed her (as others did).
back in 2015 my mom and I would go on road trips to Utah and we would listen to the CDs and this song was one of the songs on the CDs and whenever I hear it I cry a little because it brings back good memories.
This song has been haunting me for the past three days. Heard it as I was driving home around midnight. Finally remembered enough of the lyrics to google it. So glad I did!
Although this song is very popular right now, I believe that these wonderful artists are not getting enough attention from people. They're bringing the beauty of synthpop back to the horizon! Expect more artists to lean towards this genre!
I remember I first heard this song. I was too lazy to turn off the tv one night and woke up to this on mtv. No idea who they were and it wasn’t my style but something told me let it play. Still One of my favorite songs today almost a decade later. Keep inspiring 😁
I guess I have been living under a rock, because I just found this song. I’m reading The Promised Neverland and this song really suits the story, and they will forever be entwined in my memory
Ooh, yes! It really does suit the story. I'm so excited for season 2, and I'm caught up with the current releases... it is such an amazing story! I never would have thought of this song in connection to it.
This song made me emotional.. It's because I lost my mom when I was eight leaving just me and my older brother who we got only our mom that time n this song made me missed my mom so much..
Im very sorry for your loss man. This song is a great one to listen to in rememberance of a loved one. I just loss my dear my dear gram and hearing this in the midst of pain somehow helps. Sending U2 love & positive vibes.
Poor girl, I feel so bad for her. She looks so lonely, so hopeless as she goes about her life. She is around so many people, but is so lonely the whole time. The part where she cries is heartwrenching, like she finally hit rock bottom. Beautiful song, but man, the video is depressing as hell. :/
+PilsenB That is true, and she even looks liberated and at peace at the end, but it still seems she makes the ultimate sacrifice of her life by doing so.
+Ryan C In the undefined future, a transcendent consciousness activates a memory from its infancy as a biological entity in the early 21st Century. 0:11 "Load" Wandering the streets of a past world, taking in the sights, smells, tastes and sounds, the being is immersed in melancholy. 1:19 Why? Is it regret? Is it a distant echo of mortal sorrow? Or are fond memories tainted by knowledge of how *truly lost* this world is? Maybe the ruins of this city is now under thirty meters of ocean, or burned to ash in some era of brutal warfare. 2:08 Eventually, catharsis is achieved, and it's time to prepare for departure. 2:22 "Save ..." 3:10 "... and exit" (Watch the film "Vanilla Sky" if my interpretation of this video intrigues you.)
I met my mother in 2018 for the first time in 43 years. Adopted from birth she ended up having two kids after me she was stable enough to raise. I met them the following year. After they left I made a collage of pics using The Mother We Share as a title and for me, I was all in. They weren’t and going back and reading the lyrics from my perspective wasn’t the same as theirs. I had forgotten there were two sides of the story. This song has that upbeat tempo that drags me out of bed when I’ve had enough while reading the lyrics without music expresses my pain. I’m rambling.
Je trouvé ce groupe par hasard il y a quelques temps et je suis tombé amoureux de ce titre. J'adore la voix et les sonorités qui rappellent les années 80' avec cette touche pourtant actuelle.
Love the way her accent comes out when she says "proud"!

Garry E my sister thought it said "brown head" like the person has brown hair lol
'Prood.'
Like a true Scotsman. Or woman.
I'm a 6'4 230lb black dude who listens to gangsta rap, and I love this song.
this shit will catch you by surprise
speedgazelle
hell yeah it will this is so catchy!!
Aww good for u dude :) AND EVEN MY GRANDPARENTS LIKE THIS! That says something right there!!
what does your height and weight have to do with anything?
*****
Everything. The bigger and taller you are, the more masculine you are expected to be. It's something most big guys understand, but most of us are usually softer than we appear. xP
8 years ago, I play this song on repeat. I'm much older now but I'm still compelled to play this song on repeat whenever I remember it.
Wrong
@@chooperl375 It's just how I see it, may not be what it's intended to mean. They write all their lyrics to be able to allow their listeners to have their own way of connecting to the song and to be able to develop their own meaning to it as well.
@@chooperl375 it''s called an opinion lol.
I found a comment here that said it's about incest lol
what an incredibly comforting voice.
this music relaxes me and excites me at the same time
Omg!!! yesss! I feel the same way too✨🤍
I feel like an absolute fossil that this song is almost a decade old, how is that humanly possible? brings me straight back to being in the begining of college and not an underemployed grad.
Especially midnight city and we own the sky are good.
kart, I'm a major fan of M83.
Hate to be that guy but this is nothing like techno
It sounds like it to me. Synth, Digitized beat. I call shenanigans. Still, a very cool song.
OMG. Saddens me how fast this song faded/
Synopsis: lonely and depressed young woman apathetically wanders around city and then decides to channel Mass Effect biotic energy waves.
hahahahahahahhaa
***** Whoa.
Do you have a citation for that? Pretty intense if true.
Shit, you had me worried there.
Oh my god! you just made my day hahahhahahahahaha
Such a simple time too✨🤍i feel you
This song is so good

Listening to this in 2024. Rest in Piece Aunt Nett ..... we willl meet again in my final days.
I can't stop listening to this song!
Just bought the cd earlier today, amazing!
CHVRCHES never been this good since this album (or at least the second)
This song still gives eargasms. I expecially love the way the music alternates between my ears! Like its 8d
It is 2020 already, and this songs brings soooo many memories from 2013/2014...
Wish i could go back to those days
Same here
Such a simpler time, i feel the same way too✨🤍
Something so nostalgic about these songs
Alyssa Pastore You must either be 12 or 52 if you think this is nostalgic.
Google are you fucking kidding me why would you let me pick such a retarded username O!
Alyssa Pastore what
Julius Arneberg Well yeah that's basically what it is
Gun is even more nostalgic, it's like going back in time!
Same!
Damn that must hit hard with this song
Oh, shit, I've been listening to this song for years and I never noticed that the lyrics actually fit
9 years listening to you, can’t get enough
Damn, I cleary remember when this song came out, instantly fell in love with it, Oh how time has flew, but this song will never get old.
2021 and this song is still one of my absolute favorites!!! Always will be!
It's the scottish tinge that does it for me. I love it.
There's nothing wrang wi a wee bit a tinge.
This song would play when MTV use to show music videos in the morning… came out when I was in 8th grade and was my favorite song.
This song made me emotional.. It's because I lost my mom when I was eight leaving just me and my older brother who we got only our mom that time n this song made me missed my mom so much..
josiah kharkrang I'm sorry for your loss I am sure your mom has always been looking out for you on the other side
Im very sorry for your loss man. This song is a great one to listen to in rememberance of a loved one. I just loss my dear my dear gram and hearing this in the midst of pain somehow helps. Sending U2 love & positive vibes.
@PetesUTubeSpace TY. Its great to see others can get this vibe from it as well. 💙
I wanna see these guys do a collab with M83
Winning combination!
Purity Ring would be a collab heaven.
My 2 favourite artists.
yasssssss
Never thought of this, that would just be perfect
I didn't realise she was so beautiful. I mean I expected because of her voice but good lord.
lol lorde no pun intended ;)
***** That's not.
That's not a pun. :/
You know Lorde, the singer, who also recently got discovered... Thats...thats a pun... :-/
***** You pretty clearly don't understand how puns work.
Good day.
***** And that's why you have to stay in school children.
This is in the top 5 most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
+Ryan C Right, but then she lights up the whole town. Phoenix from the flame.
+PilsenB That is true, and she even looks liberated and at peace at the end, but it still seems she makes the ultimate sacrifice of her life by doing so.
+Ryan C
In the undefined future, a transcendent consciousness activates a memory from its infancy as a biological entity in the early 21st Century.
0:11 "Load"
Wandering the streets of a past world, taking in the sights, smells, tastes and sounds, the being is immersed in melancholy.
2:22 "Save ..."
3:10 "... and exit"
(Watch the film "Vanilla Sky" if my interpretation of this video intrigues you.)
+Len Arends jus screw off
+Eric Lamar rude lol
I have the biggest crush on her, she's just too perfect
Lean Cerneira she's is amazingly beautiful
She's beautiful....
Lean Cerneira ,which one?
Takai Osgood hate to break it to you buddy, but artists don't sound the same live as they do on a recording.
Lean Cerneira you need to read a book called paper towns
First time I heard it when I was 18. Now I'm 25, and it still hits a part of my heart.
Happy Mother's Day!!
6 years on, same goosebumps as ever. Timeless.
This may be one of the greatest bands ever. Period.
agree
Thy Holy Midget look up Last Dinosaurs. Will not be dissapointed. Andy or Zoom are good songs
Tacticality YT Ok thanks. :)
Nope
I can’t believe I forgot this song existed. It was one of my faves I always sang!! I’m so glad I came across this song again!!
Well, it's a late night and I just found a new favorite band.
Is it now your old favorite band?
@@Articulatedcopy you nailed it
I like no songs like that. But CHVRCHES is just magic. Can't explain what I feel when listening this. Makes me reach deeper in my own mind
Just fell in love. Perfect pop.
Oof, feels bad knowing this came out 8 years ago. I still get chills listening to this.
