I am getting ready to frame up two projects for gifts and I never quite got how the process was done. Your video was incredibly detailed and helpful. Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you so much for sharing how to use one of those flexi hoops to finish off the embroidery piece - I always see those hoops when I shop in the crafting store, but never knew how they were used - Now I know. Your piece is beautiful. ❤
I love everything about your videos, Ms. Homfray. They are very well done, clear, concise but thorough, and inspiring. Between you and Mary Corbet, I am having much fun learning and trying new things. Thank you.
Can I just say - You have such a calm and soothing voice - so easy to listen to - and of course your expertise in stitching. I am a cross stitcher and diamond dotter. I stumbled across you as have been given a bayeux tapestry - eek - now to sit down for some tutorials from you. New subscriber.
I am just getting into hand embroidery and have been fairly proud of my (small) works (certainly not perfect, but they are mine!) - I have been purchasing wooden frames with glass fronts for my work ... trying to find the cheapest frames possible ($2-3 dollars each, but they look nice). I REALLY like the way you frame your work, but I think my work encased is necessary since I have a smoking husband ... I don't think the fabric would look too good in a couple of years uncovered. I love and appreciate your videos and your calm quiet discussion. I am in the US and I don't think we have anybody quite like you. Sure glad I found your videos (started out watching your blackwork videos). Thank you for your time, hope you enjoy your time stitching and it hasn't turned into a "chore".
Thank you for your kind comments Stephanie, glad you are enjoying the videos! Yes If you have a smoker in the house probably a good idea to mount in a frame with glass in it; try and make sure the glass doesn't touch the embroidery if you can (you can buy special conservation glass if you wish! It prevents light damage and doesn't shine so much so you can see the work better. Speak to a specialist framer). I don't get much time to stitch as I would like and it's often to a deadline but I still love it!
Very informative. I am a novice and this helped a lot. However, I wish you had described how to fold and knot the ribbon at the end. Yes, I am a complete novice!
This is really great, I just finished a very small cross stitch, I wish I had seen this before I gave it away, I did cut a piece of card and wedged it in the back of the frame so it wasnt too bad, but this looks very professional Sarah. Once again thank you for your time and effort in showing us a way of mounting our projects.
Ove the ASMR sound of shears cutting fabric, against a table... from my dressmaking days in the 1960's. Just don't get that same sound with a rotary cutter & ruleron a self-healing mat... Excellent tips & glad for the visual steps. Many thanks, Sarah.
Thank you so much for making this video! You explain things so clearly and detailed. I have used the bendy frames before. They are nice, but a real pain to get the project into! I did not know how to protect the back of my projects and came across your video! This is such a nice, neat way to finish off a project. I love it and will be using this method to finish all my projects from now on. Thank you again. Great job on the video. By the way you have lovely hands.
Very clear explanation. Good camera position focused on the embroidery piece up close and you on the side where we can see you and hear you speak. Very well done. I am a new subscriber. Have embroidered since about 5 years old...now almost at the end of my 7th decade. Thank you..
Hi and thanks a million for this very helpful tutorial! This is what I want my embroidery to look like when it’s finished! It’s excellent! It looks great on either side! Have a wonderful day! 😎🌸
Thank you for such an informative and detailed tutorial. This was so helpful for me as I am new to cross stitch and first time to frame in a flexible frame. Thank u!!!

Dear Sarah, I loved your video. I’m a beginner and have just finished a little project that took me a week to make. It’s appropriate for flexi frame framing. However, I wonder if there’s anything I can do to protect the embroidery from stains or dirt in general, as opposed as hanging it just exposed to the elements. Is there any spray or protection (glass, plastic, anything) that you may advise to use? I much appreciate your help. Thanks for the wonderful tips.
Thanks Sarah for another awesome video! I am learning so much from you! A question I have about finishing a project is regarding washing and ironing a project. I have a few kits and the printed fabric is folded and has deep creases. Also lots of cat hair. 😅 , now that I have been working on it for a while. And then there are the patterns that need water to dissolve part of it. Have you done a video that addresses my questions? Thanks! Nanci 🪷
Congratulations for an excellent tutorial, it could not be more clear, detailed and thorough! Your voice and pace also play an important role. And the way we see both images is great. When you were sewing the felt I wished the camera zoomed in so that we could see more clearly, and then it happened!:) I had been reading reviews about these hoops and how challenging (ie difficult) they are to use, and yet your technique makes it look so much easier. I suppose with practice it will become less painful:) Do you mind repeating the name of the white thread so I can look up in your website, please? Do you ship to Portugal? Thank you! Looking forward to watching more videos!
Glad you are enjoying the videos Helena! These hoops aren't that difficult to use, you just need to know the knack and they are definiately the easiest and quickest way to frame up an embroidery. The white thread is called a top stitch thread and we sell it on the website here: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_7198351-Top-stitch-buttonhole-sewing-thread-white.html We ship worldwide but please be aware that all international orders are going tracked/tracked and signed at the moment until the current situation rights itself although Europe orders seem to be arriving fairly promptly at the moment
Hi Sarah, thanks for all your wonderfully useful and informative videos. They are my go-to for lerning new things. I have a question. Do you have a video on washing, ironing, shrinking, stretching etc either before embroidering or after ? Thsnks !
Thank you, I do something different. Do a little embroidery for the back, an example of the stitches used on front or another embroidery. Then I line the backing with very tough type of velcro, pull it up and stitch it to the very outer edge of the inner ring. I then also have a reversible picture and one that can be wooshed through Woolite for gentle washing.
Hello! Can you please let me know the brand and type of thread you used for this? I am super new when it comes to sewing and don’t want to get the wrong thing. Is there a certain type of felt you use? Thank you for these videos. I have watched loads of them😊
Hello! I'm just getting interested in this hobby, and want to know if you have any recommendations on where to get cheap materials and what fabric to use? I would appreciate the advice greatly!!
I don't know where in the world you are Lynae but as far as fabric goes, use a natural fabric if you can such as cotton or linen or a blend of both. Cotton is very inexpensive and readily available from shops and online. We have some nice linens on our website also as well as frames, needles etc. Check out our beginners embroidery playlist which will give you lots advice about needles and equipment etc. You can find it here: ruclips.net/p/PLC2TZFIW8ZoOf-FzgU_Zz9KyisR6PZl0q
Hi Sarah! This might be a silly question but why do people use those flexi hoops to display their embroidery instead of just a regular embroidery hoop (that’s got a nice finish on it ) . Is it because the flexi hoops won’t damage the fabric over time while displayed ??
Just wondering! with all your lovely work, whilst it would look great displayed in a hoop on the wall, over a time .. it would yellow and get dirty. Is there something / a product that could be sprayed on to provent this from happening that you know of?
It should really be framed professionally behind glass John if you want to display it long term; you can get a special conservation glass that prevents damage from UV rays also if it's extra precious!
Hi Sarah, I have a question: Do you wrap/bind the hoops used for displaying the finished project, or is that not necessary? Could the finished project loosen or pucker just hanging on a wall? Thank you!
It isn't necessary, the hoops look nice on their own and if you lace your fabric across the back it will stay nice and tight but you can use it as a feature if you want to!
It will Zoe yes but Aida is a bit stiffer so I would probably manipulate it in my hands a bit beforehand to make it more supple. You can double up on your gathering thread as well if you like as you might need to pull a little bit harder
Hi, I would like to give away some presents, embroidery pictures, I either use a hoop, but square ones. Is that possible? Do square hoops exist? Thanks!!
I always use a backing fabric when I'm stitching Anmarie, it gives a sturdy surface to stitch on and, for me, makes my stitching neater. I get asked the question alot so there will be a video coming on this!
Good housekeeping Debbie! Wash your hands regularly, keep your work space clean and tidy and place your embroidery on a new piece of acid free tissue paper or clean cotton cloth when you turn it upside down to stitch on the backing.

What type of fabric do you use
How would you deal with a rectangular flex with mitered corners? I folded the fabric over before doing running stitch but it seems very ad hoc.
Sarah do you remove the lining I didn’t, see it when you were sewing the gathering stitches
No I sewed through both pieces as if they were one Sandra

I tend to avoid glue wherever possible but whatever works for you Maria!
Can this way of hanging in a hoop possible or feasible for larger cross stitch pieces?
Yes definitely Susan, you can go as large as the hoop you can buy!

I use sticky back felt. So much easier.
if I wanted to add lace around the frame, how and when would I do that
I'm not sure what you mean by this Doreen; would the lace be on the fabric?
I think she means when the lace is hot glued to the back of the outer hoop so the lace or other trim surrounds the hoop and is flat on a wall.
Just a quick question….I notice you had 2 layers of embroidery fabric…..why was that please?
I always use a backing fabric when I'm stitching Anmarie, it gives a sturdy surface to stitch on and, for me, makes my stitching neater. I get asked the question alot so there will be a video coming on this!

Good housekeeping Debbie! Wash your hands regularly, keep your work space clean and tidy and place your embroidery on a new piece of acid free tissue paper or clean cotton cloth when you turn it upside down to stitch on the backing.
Sorry Sarah, I wasn't clear in my meaning. I was querying how to keep it clean when on display without glass to protect it from dust and damp.
Very tidy
I have done very similar with woodglut designs.
