Great video...I have crabbed there many times and it is always fun. We also wade out into the flats and pick them up as they are running. Locals taught me that style.
One of the best videos so far this year, and I am a subscriber to many fishing videos and blogs. Something more tasteful, and different, rich in culture is what this video shows. Nice job brother!! Fish on, and tight lines never stop brother!!!!
Use nets or traps. Also, if you crab at night, line the shore or seawall with bright lights. I use bright LED lanterns or Petromax or Coleman lanterns. That really draws the crabs!
Super fun for kids of all ages for anyone no boat needed just make sure you have the proper licenses and laws on size limit and ways u can fish the area u in
Got the T shirt there years ago lol! Always fun early. We used to tie string to my 2 ring nets and toss them like a frisby to the middle of the baya to compliment the string lines. Nets worked great in deeper water early as well.
I go here all the time. I find it to be a hit or miss location. In fact i noticed you are in the exact location that my grandpa and i go right next to the street sign.
I've found they can be bigger in the bayou itself, near some cuts about 1000 feet from the mouth. They vary widely in size and fullness. Of course you do need to fish from a boat to get to that spot.
Louisiana is on my bucketlist of places I want to try crabbing and on my list of states that I want to move to after my kids are in college in a few years. Have you ever tried using a trotline? I don't ever see anyone using them in videos anywhere except Maryland and Delaware.
Awesome video! I prefer fall here in Maryland because the crabs are packed full of meat as they fatten up for winter. They usually bury themselves in the mud and don't do much here in winter plus there are not many people out crabbing since most only crab in summer here so there aren't any crowds.
Do you clean the crabs in fresh water? I have no experience with crabs or crabbing but I saw a show where they caught a bunch of crayfish in freshwater, water didn't look like it was moving all that much and they would put them in freshwater alive to clean them out. I don't know how long or exactly what the crayfish may have had but they cautioned that if you didn't do this at least make sure to cook them well before eating.
Here in South Florida, when we catch blues in brackish water like that, usually the canals, they have worms and you have to sprinkle salt on them before prepping to cook. The salt drives the worms right out, and you can see them in the bottom of the cooler. No problem with worms there?
I normally just wing the seasoning. I use liquid crab bail and salt until it tastes right, then add onions, garlic, lemons, celery, bay leaves and a few other less-important ingredients. I bring the water to a rolling boil, add the crabs, return to a rolling boil and let it go for 6-7 minutes. Then I cut off the fire, and soak them for 45 minutes.
First time I've ever seen anyone handlining for crabs using a rod and reel. I like to put a pot out downstream of where I am handlining. Do this first thing and leave it out till ready to hit the road.
Yes, I watched it and I did see you guys use nets, my apology.Just never used a fishing pole to crab. I guess you could say I am just old school, using a net allows me to catch multiple crabs at a time.
Soooooooooooo the cook video would have been cool ( how y'all cooked up......tasty??...would be a cool vid. otherwise another awesome vide ! Keep it up. South Shore checking in
We use to catch 100 to 300 per 6 hour trip. Now we catch 20 to 60. Same with fishing , it's sad Florida is dead. Too many people keeping everything , no fishing liscence just a food stamp card.
Thx! Been once before. I usually like to go during the week and take my two boys because it’s a lot less crowded. Now that school Has started may have to go on the weekend!
@@MarshManMasson Hello, only a fishing license is required for crabbing, just curious, I plan on coming to Louisiana to vacation, just to catch crabs, maybe even crawfish, and want to be sure what type of licenses r needed, cause n Main, u need a specific license to harvest clams, or is it muscles, Lol, I forget, it was on Zack Fowler’s channel. Would u tell me places I can get the license??? Watching y’all makes me wanna go there now, I wish Oklahoma had crabs, we have Crawdads, but nothing nowhere’s compared to Louisiana 😭. Appreciate it! Thank u
@@joybickerstaff194 Most Sporting Goods store sell them. I get mine in the Sporting Goods section of Walmart. I'm a retired disabled vet so my licenses are free in Texas. Not sure if it's the retired part or the disabled part that makes them free.

Thank you for reminding me that I haven't had any blues this season. Lol
One reason I miss Louisiana! So many places to crab.
Went today, caught 4 dozen. Mostly small like you said but had a blast with my son. Thanks for the advice.
Is this spot on Lake Rd in Lacombe? Must be - it looks just like it. Always fun !
Only regret at living in the southwest is missing crabs when I lived on the east coast. They look sooooo good.
Use nets or traps. Also, if you crab at night, line the shore or seawall with bright lights. I use bright LED lanterns or Petromax or Coleman lanterns. That really draws the crabs!
I go fishing there all the time! You almost always catch some crabs there whether you are fishing for them or not lol
Love the vid.
Really like your shore line videos. Great job!
Lacombe is my home town. Caught a many of blue crabs off lake road. The size of crabs has really dropped over the years
My kids and i crab fish with hand lines off carr drive with nylon string and pork neck pieces. We use cane poles to tie off to.
Super fun for kids of all ages for anyone no boat needed just make sure you have the proper licenses and laws on size limit and ways u can fish the area u in
I had a good time, and I was just watching this video!
Great video guys and we love blue crabs in Houston.
Man, that looks fun. If I were a teenager with some free time and buddy; I'd give it go! Beautiful backdrop to spend a day.
My little grandson will love trying that, he’s A bit little for the boat and gets tired easy I was thinking Highway one but that’s closer thanks
Thanks for sharing! Now I'm feeling crabby!

The canals on the Northshore in Slidell have lots of crabs
I know a place on the NW Florida coast where I can do this. Thanks for sharing !!!
Todd is there a prime month that this area turns on? Or is it just the typical April-September months?
the crabs you keep we throw back in ct. our min. is 5 inches point 2 polnt

Our crabbing is excellent in the fall, but so is our speckled trout fishing, and that usually consumes my recreation time then.
That’s cool I’ve never seen crabs caught on a fishing pole
JUDD EVANS it is way better than using a string. All I have ever used is a crab pot on the boat and a fishing pole from land

No need to clean crabs. They don't live in mud, like crawfish. You can hose them off if it makes you feel better, but I don't.
you need to try crabbing in hackberry, the number one you caught is the average there
Love me some Blue Crab-We use them for bait in minnow traps for mud minnows. Do y’all ever catch stone crabs?
We catch them in saltier water along the coast. The water in this area is much closer to fresh.
I’ve also had luck walking at the end where it’s shallow with a dip net just scooping them up
I catch some good ones on hackberry too.
Where is hackberry?
WHERE IS HACKBERRY I'M IN METARIE
Where is this in Louisiana??
👀 Where’s that boil recipe???

Are you talking about the short black ones that cling to the shells of the crabs?
Marsh Man Masson Yeah. Not worms?
No, they're leeches.
Marsh Man Masson Mmmm...delicious. I kind of thought that, but wasn’t sure.
I have to 30in drop Nets are they a good way to catch this type of crab. I can only grab from the bank for now
Like the Arctic Ice in the cooler I save a ton of money using their Chillen and Brew packs
Thats hilarious its called big branch nwr but you cant find a branch nowhere lol
Ha! Good point.
Gotta steam the blue crabs! With some old Bay and Natty boh beer 🤙🏻🙏 God bless I hope you all get all the crabs y'all need.
Hey Todd, do y’all already have a video up on how you like to boil them?

Easiest place to get roadside crabs is at the motel six
He'll be here all week, folks! Tell your friends and neighbors
What’s size it has to be a keeper?
There's no size minimum in Louisiana.
Power Pro best crab line on the market.
At least it's good for something 🤣
i'm bringing the kids to do this man, beings me back to being a kid!
Is the water to deep to use crab nets? I grew up crabbing in Louisiana and we always use crab nets.
Did you watch the full video? We used nets, and attached an underwater camera to one to show what's going on in it.

bayoujohn03 Yes, I was raised on the West Bank and we would cross the Chalmette ferry and crab off the pier at the harbor going toward the east.

Need to see if legal to use crab snare like we use in Northern California- google crab snare and images will pop up.
im from new orleans where can I catch blue crabs?
In Louisiana ? Just about anywhere there is water.
@@edmartin875 yes. I cant seem to can none. Ive been to shell beach, lake ponchartrain etc
as long their 5 inches he will eat good!
Are the crabs ok to eat? I didn't hear anything on lifting the advisory for Ponchartrain yet?
No cyanobacteria for many, many miles from there.
Lol I can’t stand how you put the net under them you gotta go over the top n get em from behind or with two nets from both sides!
Where is this in relation to Lake Rd in Lacombe MM?
We were standing on Lake Road.
Thx! Been once before. I usually like to go during the week and take my two boys because it’s a lot less crowded. Now that school Has started may have to go on the weekend!
What size do they need to be to keep? Its 5" point to point here in Charleston SC.
No size minimum here in Louisiana.
Oh wow. Some days it feels like all we catch is 4 7/8😂😂
No size for recreational crabbing
5” only if you’re a commercial fisherman......😍
I loved the camera effects in this video.... great job 🙌
Gumbo Time
HOW U GOT TO THIS PLACE
Hi I live in new Orleans East how can I get there.
The guy with the bandana must have been playing hooky with work
Either that, or he was about to rob a stagecoach.
@@MarshManMasson lol
I was thinking maybe he had warrants or owed child support 😁
