It's always been that way. Even if any thought is put into it. But either way, 99.99% of people will be okay with it. It's the distributors that are the ones censoring the media. Which has always been an issue. Eminem... Marilyn Manson... Dogma... The only difference is the loud minority has figured out how to project their voice onto others. I love how the gang did a flashback show without it being an actual clip show (for now…). Kind of an ode to clips from the past, but with a meta twist.
23:27 - 23:54 You guys have pretty much figured out what I think is part of the genius behind the show. Everyone in the Gang is deeply, internally unfulfilled, and if you think about it, yeah, they're all pretty tragic. I keep saying that if this show weren't a comedy, it'd be incredibly depressing lol.
So true. The closest any of the main 4 have gotten to finding real happiness is when Charlie worked as a school janitor. I do see Charlie as the only member of the gang that might actually thrive in a life without the rest, but Charlie has some predisposition towards being the “dirt grub.” When you start psychoanalyzing IASIP characters it’s easy to see how actually deep and depressing these messed up goofballs are
22:18 There wasn't really any moment of outrage with this show that i know of. All the banned episodes of Sunny were taken down preemptively to prevent any possible issues.
It’s always fun to see how the gang can continue to find ways to make Calvin and Aaron cringe as Eric just looks on with pure joy and delight at their misery. Eric is waiting to laugh at their reaction while we wait to see Eric’s giddy reaction. The Sunny is the gift that just keeps giving and we’re not even half way through the show (although this is the final season of Sunny on FX before the move to FXX with season 9).
@ fxx is the comedy focused sister channel. There are less content restrictions so Sunny is able to become even more R-Rated than before. They don’t get restricted on f-bombs and other content. By season 12, the show is basically able to say and do whatever it wants.
I love the implication that the gang's meddling and scabbing may have actually helped the union in securing a better deal in the end lmao Fantastic episode, I love the way they wove so many old bits into this episode so seamlessly. Even the little jokes, like Mac going for a kiss (which seems to be improv'd after a long day of filming) just destroy me.
There was a point in time when Hulu just did a massive ban on all offensive episodes , and this was included in the process. I remember it also got the 30 Rock episode where Jenna and Tracy were fighting over who had the tougher life(women or black people). Tracy did "white face", but ran out of paint so he wore Godzilla hands. And Jenna's dressed as Michael Jackson and singing "Ease on down the road" was great.
the gang will never be fulfilled. dee wants superstardom, charlie wants the waitress. mac wants dennis. dennis wants to kill. frank wants chaos making him the only one that is actually fulfilled. besides if any of them actually achieved any of this they wouldn’t know it and/or would either self sabotage it or move the goalposts to something else.
This episode was a recycling of many previous episodes. Obviously the The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis is the main one, but also The Gang Runs For Office, The Gang Finds A Dumpster Baby, The Gang Sells Out and probably more.
This episode was on Netflix for years. None of these episodes were banned pre-2020. The banning was a result of Tina Fey wanting episodes of 30 rock pulled for blackface jokes she didnt feel comfortable with anymore. This was after the murder of George Floyd. 30 rock is her show and i understand why she felt that way. However the companies decided to put this standard on other shows like Always Sunny and Community. So, there was no "banned" episodes when this came out and there wasnt outrage that took them down. The show will continue to have banned episodes because nothing was banned until recently.
This. The whole controversy was stupid and part of the nonsensical culture war bullshit. These "banned" episodes don't even crack the top 20 worst things sunny has done.
the reason their businesses & plans never work out is because they are narcissists obsessed with the showman ship of every single thing. they make a catchy jingle but never talk about pricing, they put on a wrestling show but only cared about the elaborate entrance and never learned how to wrestle, they own a bar but never tend it, etc etc etc. its so great😂😂🤣
There wasnt any outrage. Sunny has never had a massive following, and its group of fans all understand that they're not saying that racist jokes are funny. They're making fun of how terrible the gang is and how oblivious they are to what they're doing wrong. Thats why they never win in the end. They're bad people and you're supposed to root for them to fail lol.
👏🏽doing the "banned" episodes. Idk why people are so offended. I'm Hispanic and watched the first Martina Martinez episode when I was in high school or just out of it. No offended me. I just laughed.
just binged all your reactions and caught up with this one. Please, for the love of god, watch the blooper reels for each season. You realise watching them how many of the scenes have improv. You can do one video of seasons 2-7 bloopers, then watch them going forward at the end episode of each season. Some real funny scenes aren't in the episodes just because they can't keep it together while filming them.
None of the Always Sunny episodes had any "outrage" about them. The show creators (Rob, Glenn, Charlie) felt that those episodes are in poor taste and had them removed per request. I don't agree with it. But, there was never any outrage.
What apparently wasn't in poor taste: Charlie faking terminal cancer so he could sleep with the woman he is stalking, the McPoyles lying about their gym teacher sexually abusing them and Mac being mad he DIDN'T get molested, the McPoyles being incest freaks, the gang making a "jihad tape" to scare off a Jewish business man, the gang finding a baby in the dumpster and trying to profit off of it, Dennis and Mac trying to pick up women on pro/anti abortion rallyes, a crackwhore dying in Charlie's apartment and being dumped in the hallway, Dee lying about having a dead baby to get out of an IRS scam, Dennis trying to lure out women onto the open occean to benefit from the implication, the gang faking physical disabilities to get sympathy, the gang selling alcohol to minors, Dennis using the DENNIS system to manipulate and emotionally destroy women while sexually exploiting them, Frank having run very deadly sweatshops in Vietnam, AND SO ON AND ON AND ON. Almost like the point is that those are horrible people and dealing with a sensitive issue in a provocative manner is integral to the entire show. I just cannot wrap my head around it. Can you not do a satire about the Third Reich anymore because it would involve the actor playing Hitler saying racist things?
All of Hollywood disappointing hundreds of thousands to millions of fans, forgoing sizable revenue, out of fear they'll offend a handful of people who weren't going to watch their show/movie, anyways. If you produce something with potentially controversial content, and you've made an honest assessment that it makes sense, contextually, don't throw it to the curb because 75 people decide to yell about it on Twitter for a couple of weeks.
13:16 - when you realize why the episode was banned. The absurdity of Dee in just brownface (while the rest of her is entirely white) always cracks me up. Absurdly, the outrage to the episode happened years after it aired.

@@JenLight Indeed, it was really just a small group of terminally online people hunting down things to get people mad about, streaming services took preemptive action because these people were going through back catalogs. Offense archeology... pretty pathetic.
About banned episodes. Personally I don't think the show is racist, they're calling out racist people. And I don't know about anyone else, and I acknowledge that the topic is sensitive and there's still much debate to be had, but even if it was racist, what good does banning it do? Banning the episodes and not even letting the audience judge what’s wrong with it by themselves is a disservice to media comprehension and interpretation. This isn’t a question of whether what they did is okay if it’s satire, or to “learn from the mistakes of the past” or whatever, but rather the choice to have that discussion at all. It doesn't sit right with me that people protest in a heartbeat the banishment of, let's say, 1984 in some countries (because, obviously, no books should be banished) but think it's okay to banish these episodes just because of the current very specific political climate we're in. 2 cents!
yeah, but the spisodes where dennis films women without their consent are fine! even to show it to other people. The gang emotionally manipulating the waitress into having sex with an old man. The implication. Faking a babies death to collect social security? fine! Underage drinking. Gay jokes. The list goes on... But this... this makes you cringe? Programmed

yeah this season is good but this episode is an omen
The self referential stuff is pretty great, I have no clue what you're talking about. The meta episodes and the Ed episodes are some of the best ones in the series.
@@jackflash8218I agree with this for sure. I think the real full decline of the show happened as of season 13 and on. That's when the seasons started to be mostly bad with a couple good episodes thrown in, as opposed to before when they were either all good or mostly good.
They weren’t banned and there wasn’t outrage. You can still buy them. Sick of this culture war nonsense. You guys talk about it way too much. There’s not a Star Wars reaction from you these days that doesn’t have Eric going on about people who hate Star Wars because it’s woke. Just ignore it. We don’t come here for politics.
As long as we keep pushing back against them, that's all we can do. Eventually these people will either have to adapt and realize that Tha tkindnof crap is unacceptable, or they'll just be osated because nobody wants to play with them since they're insufferable.
Hopefully 4 years of Trump spearheading some change will embolden people to unite and push back against this. And hopefully we get many more years of terrible entertainment industry profits like this year was. Woke gaming companies had flop after flop after flop this year and many big movies tanked at the box office because people are sick or this crap. We keep this up and eventually they'll either be of business or out of money.
Take a breath of fresh air.
Black face IS funny. I said it.
