Apparently the foreign policy that’s in place today was in acted straight after the Second World War and the America quest is to eliminate any opposition to its hegemony. I want to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for Professor Jeffrey Sachs and his unwavering commitment to promoting peace across the world, especially during these turbulent times. His dedication to peaceful solutions is truly inspiring. I believe he deserves to be recognized for his efforts, and I sincerely hope that someone will take the lead in nominating Professor Sachs for the Nobel Peace Prize. In support of this cause, I am willing to donate an entire month's salary. Let's work together to honor a true advocate for peace.
Sachs destroyed New Russia, made millions of people unemployed, and created mega-rich Oligarchs through his privatisation program. Now he supports evil China. He represents what is bad about the American economics profession.

I see Professor JEFFREY SACHS a SAINT. Not because he speaks good of China, just like his wife said "he is a truth speaker", he speaks the truth. Danish Prof Jan Oberg is also making significant contributions to World Peace. It will be interesting to have him on the panel for issues to make our Earth better home for Humanity.
I am impressed with Bryan Van Norden's speech on Chinese philosophy. As a Chinese American, I have studied Chinese culture and philosophy and love them. This philosophy has helped me to be much more successful in America than otherwise. Good job bringing up this open Chinese secret.

That is only one part, and absolutely not complete.. Do not do to others what you know they don’t like ! And, do to others what you know they like. Not what you like, not what you don’t like. That is different and much more important, because if you take yourself as measure, you can never be sure that you are doing good or not doing bad for others.
Thank you! Young people are hungry for wisdoms and philosophy! Understanding of the mind and the self spirit, we need to connect again and have long conversations with each others !
Yes. P J Sachs is so correct about education, amazing! I was a student of local, Australian,.(both British influenced) & appreciate the values that the systems have imparted. It's taught us to be receptive of global activities. Delving into my Chinese background has also revealed amazing lessons. Opening our eyes to the rest of our society is but a start for our contributions back to society.
Really enjoyed this panel. I am American born to Portuguese parents, so I have dual citizenship. I have lived in Portugal for several years. I have two daughters and will say, they are getting a much better education than I ever had in the U.S. I never had a philosophy class in high school at all. Some parts of philosophy were touched upon, but not a class. It is similar to how African history was taught in the U.S., only starting from slavery onwards. In Portugal, my daughters have learned about African history BEFORE slavery, including the ancient Africa Empire, Mansa Musa, etc. I learned about this part of African history on my own, as an adult. My daughters will have a philosophy class every year of secondary school, which is obligatory in Portugal, regardless of which track a student chooses….humanities, science & tech, etc. My other daughter is in an IB program and taking Theory of Knowledge. These classes in both curricula offer critical thinking skills and important perspectives where self-reflection and contemplation are needed. Although colonialization plays a role in our education here (of course), I have found that the education here is far superior to that in the U.S. I am also a PhD student here, and will say much of that also extends to University education here in Europe. My daughters have and will learn much more about philosophy, world history and other disciplines than will any of my friends’ children in the U.S. I think that is all by design…if children cannot learn to be critical thinkers then they become adults who lack critical thinking skills. That is very conducive for the geopolitical interests of some.

This is the first time I saw your speech, so I was surprised, I decisively pay attention to you, Thank you for quoting an ancient Chinese saying:四海之内皆兄弟
That is actually dangerous message because you can see that how naive American philosophy study amd Western philosophy study are. As you see the thing with this angle, do you think what kind of world we are living? We are living at US and Western populism society, we are living in the worl with full of lies.
Great discussion. Thanks for the information. Feel better learning more about the inputs coming from different parts of the world. Just makes us to respect to other nations and traditions.
And recall that it was Confucius who said "No tree grows to heaven." In other words, it's foolish to project any process to inifinity, if only because of the laws of entropy and impernamence.
For most Chinese, philosophy is a way of life as one can frequently hear ordinary Chinese quoting most commonly from the teachings of Confucius. For centuries during the colonial eras, Western philosophies take precedent over those nations that they have colonized and dominated for the simple reason that Europeans arrogantly believe, and of course, taught that their civilization and their races are superior.
@BryanVanNordenPhilosophy this is great! Loved your opening. As you mentioned that Europe got philosophy from India and Africa, when you mentioned the 4 main topics that people have pondered across the globe, I sincerely wish you had also listed the Indian and African names of ideas for which you listed English, Greek, Latin and Chinese. Also, the desire to take the conversation or Education back to “cosmopolitan” era (Aristotle, Plato, etc. who basically learned from Indian and African philosophical schools) is kind of the same issue. We end up just talking about Europeans as the foundation of philosophy. Education systems and these talks led by philosophers that are White or of “European” centric should go farther back to Africa and India, and also Indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Cia assassinated Dag Hammarskjöld because he was a Humanist and a real honest good man and Best SG of the UN. After that the US highjacked the UN. Then the killed Olof Palme. Sweden was one of the best countries in the world but the killed that and took Sweden hostage
If you are more powerful, more advanced, more privileged, you then have more responsibilities, you should be more matured, tolerant and controlled, especially when you are in a conflict.
I love Dr. Jeffrey Sachs. Those discussions do not happen in the UNGA because of those who have the geopolitical power. Just look at where the UN headquarters are located. Why? When the headquarters of the UN is located in a non-neutral location, but in a country where a lack of diplomacy has been replaced with the need to instigate war, then we have an enormous problem.
We need bioregionally focused experiential learning and ecological restoration programmes across the southern hemisphere in which young participants collectively can work out for themselves what goodness is by realising how fulfilling it is to help themselves evolve their social spaces in harmony with nature while helping the planet.

I think the point about Kant is rather a reflection of the Western world in the late 18th century, which is the result of prior Enlightenment philosophers. The inclusion of Eastern philosophy reappears in Schopenhauer, which is rather anti-Enlightenment.
So glad that Colombia U sponsored this forum. Prof. Van Norden is so right. Our generation failed, particularly America, didn't teach about thinking about life purpose and openness on alternative, or foreign ideas. All these wars around the world show human beings behaving like animals, using weapons to solve problems but not our heads and tongues. If Kant discounted Indian and Chinese philosophy than he disqualifies himself a true philosopher, became a religious thinker.
I've been led to understand that the original meaning of philosophy was, quite simply, the love of wisdom. Only later did it change to the enterprise of discursive thinking. Evidently, we're far too arbitrary a species to conform to a single philosophy of the universe and man's place in it.
Each University in the USA and EU, should repeat that exact panel discussion! We need to re-educate our educational system. And leave Disney where it belongs: fantasy island!
Wilfred Leibniz was a Serb, Lusic Serb 🇷🇸 and first source of philosophy was also among Serbs, at the very center of first civilization ever, Lepenski Vir. From there we moved to Starcevo culture that developed first philosophy, along with symbols such as ying yang, swastikas, colovrat etc... That philosophy shaped Vinca culture along with Vinca letter or better known as "Srbica letter". The letter and philosophy where crucial part of creation similar cultures by Russians all along today's Ukraine. The very same letter was used by Serbo-Russian Arians who took it to the India, from where through something we would know later as "Sanskrit" was naturally kicked back across Iran and little Asia into Europe 🙂. Same language and letter was used as foundation for Mycenaean culture, later Etruscans that after the Troy fall create something we would know as Rome. 🙂 Serbian letter was replaced by Latin, that still to this day remains "bold version" of ancient Serbian "Slavic" language 🙂🎩. Same people never stopped to amaze us with greatest minds ever like Nikola Tesla, Mihailo Pupin pre founder of NASA, Rudjer Boskovic who did Albert Einstein's work 200 years before him, Wilfred Leibniz who beat Isaac Newton by many etc....
Aryan invasion theory ( into India) long debunked. . The Afro-Indo-Chinese pathway of Human Cultural Evolution and Development...is the True History of the World.
Philosophy did not start anywhere it is inherent in every humanbeing to some degree. More so some express it and become known to the wider public as philosophers. There are in my opinion many more great unknown philosophers simply because those men and women have not published their thoughts!!
