You give more information than any other reviewer, on how the car handles, rides and feels, which is just what I want to know. Well done indeed, nobody does it better Mark.
Listening to the commentary made me think back to every Astra I've driven, it's nice to know that Vauxhall still instills the jack of all trades personality to the model. It'll work because it's what the Astra has always been, a traditional heartland hatchback that might be just alright for quality and a bit spongy through the steering and gearbox after a Focus, but which you can just get in and easily drive because its cabin is very easy to make use of (even the 5th gen, I read that the cabin was full of confusing buttons, ran one as my first actual runabout for about two years and was quite fond of it, found it easy to use. Named it MJ. Metal Jacket.) and the well weighted pedals plus slightly muted steering and gearbox feels come together to make the car feel...rather quite comfortable and assured to drive, actually. Good on Vauxhall, for their sense of progressive nostalgia.
Stumbled across this review and am very impressed with the content. Excellent well thought opinions on the car. Subscribed. My first three cars were early Opel Kadetts before GM lost their way. Good to see Stellantis reinvigorate Vauxhall/Opel.
Great review as always!! Plz pick it up again when it comes as a sportstourer/stc/stw and with a fully electric drive line. I believe Stellantis will give it a stronger set up than their present default e-drive line. Astra-e OPC dare we hope?!! In that killer blue of OPCs of past...
Looks mint as you would say. They have taken a step up is it enough to tempt you out your one series? Not sure badge snobbery. Great review. You’re doing great!
That’s a 7.7l glovebox in the LHD one… I’m glad you don’t seem completely comfortable calling it a Vauxhall considering how long Vauxhall has been almost exclusively an ‘in-badge-only’ brand. Yours are my favourite reviews. I shall be on to my mother now to let her know what you think for her next car choice. ;o)
Hi there, I'm new to your reviews and liked them, definitely I'll be watching more. One thing I wonder is about your very sweet accent. I'm not a native English speaker, I don't know about all the accents and one major difference I'm hearing is the way you pronounce the u letter, like in up, but, fun etc. Would you please tell me where you're from and what accent this is? :)
I like the fact you said you didn't want to comment on how it felt until you've driven a RHD one. Most motoring journos give you chapter and verse based on LHD and I've always thought that a bit 'chinny reckon'. Whenever I have a LHD hire car on holiday it feels completely alien anyway....and I keep smashing my left hand on the door card trying to change gear.
Its def nicer looking. Im cross shopping these but the gs line astra which is the allure equivalent has heated seats and wheel. 308 does not. However the allure wears 17s way way better than this which only looks good on the 18s
ICE is still king really isn't it...along with all the issues with battery powered cars that people worry about there's one major flaw, The comfort is too hard and drive rubbish.
Love the design! The only thing that frustrates me about modern cars is those little “shark fin” aerial covers on the roof. They totally interrupt a car’s silhouette. Cars without them look so much classier - Mercedes and Mazdas for example. Don’t think they’re even necessary tbh
I have to say, on this car the shark fin aerial looks quite nice. It especially matches the spoiler over the vertical brake light and kinda emulates the nose that sticks out under the lower visor frame.
Although your reviews are 'doing great' you really deserve better than standard 'car reviews' week in week out - whatever happened to the 'more to come' - is it cos AutoTrader own yer ass, contracts etc? I'll give you a B+ but you really can manage an A*
And it does have a peugeot 308 engine and gearbox stellantis how they can call that a vauxhall cheaper nah don't think so its french you loose the all synchro m32 gearbox with the old fashioned helical forward gears and an old fashioned straight cut spurred reverse gear which makes a lot of noise not good to the eardrum vauxhall in my own opinion shouldn't be considred to be british he's talking like the car was built by vauxhall it was built by stellantis like peugeot fiat chrysler citroen my vauxhall owning days ended when they were bought by stellantis.
OK you lot we need a new design for the next astra. "you at the back stop doodling and listen up" Oh groan cars again, ok line here line there, looks nice. What do you think boss? 25 inch wheels are too big! what's this line for on the bonnet? (it just look nice) er umm it supposed to be a compass! What? umm sounds like we could sell that to marketing. OK good job. In short Chief designer BS.
The reality is, these designers do go through a process and ensure a design language is there. It’s easy for a person to write off a design without understanding it. For example, the visor front end pays homage to the Manta front grille from the ‘70s albeit in a modernised way.
Looks horrible. Good review by the way and looks are subjective but, for me, what is it with this type of design these days? Front Looks like it's from 80's sci-fi. Naff
Not a chance you are lumbered with these thrummy 3 pot shitters now ruining whats otherwise a nice car. Imagine the 1.4 150hp turbo in this from the k would be a perfect average car. A shame cos that alone would push me to a vag product.
You give more information than any other reviewer, on how the car handles, rides and feels, which is just what I want to know. Well done indeed, nobody does it better Mark.
Thanks very much, that's lovely to hear. :-D Mark.
Well said.
Same here 👍
Good
One of the best reviewers out there. I have the 1.2L auto and I love it.
One of the best reviews l have seen on this car. The reviewer is one of the best out there. The new astra looks superb. Keep up the good work 👍
Your reviews should have millions of views
Thank you mate. One day… 😁 Mark.

Perfect review! Thanks for showing the Hybrid and Petrol version.

Class leading review, job done Mark. 👍
I’ve said it before, one of the best presenters on RUclips. Has it all.
Will definitely test one of these . Lucky to have a really good ,family owned, Vauxhall dealer in the local town so that’s a plus !
A northern lad who always gives a quality review that stuffed with the particular vehicles details well done lad.
Mark your blowing other reviewers out of the water my friend. Well done bonny lad.

There's been many an interesting Astra - GTE, Coupe, Twin Top and VXR. I like what they have done with the assistance of Peugeot
Mark excellent review as usual mate you picked upon the wicked 1.2litre 130 bhp engine which performs well and sounds awesome.
A very informative & interesting review of what is the best Astra so far..at last it gives the Golf a run for it's money 💰 😎 9
The previous Astra had great chassis balance so much so that it was used as a teaching car for Touring Car and F1 drivers.
That’s a 7.7l glovebox in the LHD one…

The RHD glovebox also has no battery compartment that eats away from the space. So we do get a full size one here in the UK.
The RHD glovebox is 7.7 litres.
They've moved on. I had a Astra in the 90s (who didn't?) but this is like a space ship in comparison.
One thing on the Astra no common phone charger port plus you have to start the car to wide the window down if it’s hasn’t been started for a while

Hey. Thanks for saying so. Appreciate it. I’m from Newcastle in the North East. 😁🙌
@@vanaramauk Thanks for your response 🙏 Cheers!
Lol. Best endorsement for a focus. I've seen .👍
Ordered a GS line in black 13th of May.waiting
Anyjoy yet?

Looks great. Think I'll wait a year for the depreciation to kick in . Then great value also .
The brand new peugeot astra
Vauxhall was around for years but dont exist anymore
Maybe Astra's of the past didn't feel exotic for posers, but at least they had 2.0 Turbo engines and not these new vacuum cleaner engines.
previous model was looking better
Vauxhall and peugeots look the same and its ok yet when i print £50 notes its illegal
Lease prices are the same as 308 but that has an auto box and is nicer looking.
Its def nicer looking. Im cross shopping these but the gs line astra which is the allure equivalent has heated seats and wheel. 308 does not. However the allure wears 17s way way better than this which only looks good on the 18s
18.31 Need some lessons on how to use a steering wheel........😁😁😁😁😁
ICE is still king really isn't it...along with all the issues with battery powered cars that people worry about there's one major flaw, The comfort is too hard and drive rubbish.
In the 90s ICE meant In Car Entertainment now if you ask about ICE your just a KNOB thinking its going to die in 2030 GET A LIFE
If the residuals are 14% better than the last Astra are they now 15% ?

Stick a DS , Peugeot, Citroen Alfa Romeo badge on it ….? Hmmmm
Keith - dull but not in an aggressive manner.
The Astra is the automotive equivalent of Keith.
Keith has had a shave. That's it.
Who doesn't like a well damped flap
I dont like the interior though like the screen bezels especially in the piano black it looks cheap or outdated but the exterior is nice
For the 2023 model year, there will be a full glass display, reinforced with magnesium from behind!

It a pug. From these psa group

If the ride is firm, than this is not a car for me....I never had any opel...i prefer Frnech cars and of course Mercedes..
Looks horrible. Good review by the way and looks are subjective but, for me, what is it with this type of design these days? Front Looks like it's from 80's sci-fi. Naff
Sooo Sad
Literally nothing Vauxhall about it.
Just a rebadged pug.
No individuality and be honest the car it replaced is so much better looking.
Vauxhall hasn't manufactured a vehicle of its own design since 1980 .
That was not your usual funny review, too corporate and too long, normally u are entertaining
7.7 L for a LHD glovebox. That'll mean 1.7lL for a RHD glovebox, ala all Stellantis designed cars. Enough for 2 lollipops.
nope. They actually made glovebox same even on RHD Astra.
Plus the current Peugeot 308 also has a massive glove box, they're stepping up
The RHD glovebox is 7.7 litres.
Horrible design I haþe it
Cheap plastic everywhere.
Its just a SHITTY OPEL ASTRA AKA PEUGEOT 308 about as BORING as you can get
What do you think are they ever bring back 4 cylinders
Not a chance you are lumbered with these thrummy 3 pot shitters now ruining whats otherwise a nice car. Imagine the 1.4 150hp turbo in this from the k would be a perfect average car. A shame cos that alone would push me to a vag product.
