    Thanks for playing this and glad you enjoyed it. All their songs are quite short and bouncy.
    This was ayeways played at punk nights. I managed to constantly miss them back then but saw them a few times in the last couple of years. I worked on a live broadcast with the singer's new band a couple of years ago.

    Countdown played the video for ''Where's The Boy For Me'' .. I don't think it turned us on! Sorry!
    But I remember hearing ''Top Of The Pops'' on 3RRR (any self-respecting melbourne kid in the 70's would listen to 3RRR for the Alternative stuff)

    Hi guys, thanks for the recognition of this band, can you say 'blast from the past'? I have to admit I was a fan of theirs from the 80's. I think they did embrace their cartoonish ID proudly, especially in regards to their wardrobes. As far as lead singer Fay Fifes outfit choices, I don't think they were ever big enough to have any wardrobe consultants. I always felt that FF's body movements were as a result of her being so much taller than the other male singer, Eugene. Anyways, thanks for bringing this band to the attention of the YT generation. You should do a band called Altered Images, from the same era.

      Yeah unfortunately I think they were kind of saddled with that one. Kind of the same way Devo are primarily known for 'Whip it'... For AI, I would suggest 'Dead pop stars', see those eyes, don't talk to me about love, pinky blue, insects. The singer Claire Grogan also had a brief career as an actress and was featured in the movie Gregory's Girl.

    Well Hanier Family, you may not fully realise it yet, but, your lives have been irreparably changed!
    There's a fair bit of ground to cover, I'd recommend, "Top Of The Pops"...they were also known as The Revillos for a bit, it's all pretty much this kind of thing, Jo Callis was a member for a while, he was in The Human League iirc......the singer is Fay Fife, she's from Fife, so in the local dialect, which I speak myself, Fay Fife means 'from Fife'...see what she did there?....Fife is the bit on the east coast of Scotland between Edinburgh and Dundee that looks like a dogs head on the map! She does a sort of Country thing now, has a youtube channel, though nothing has been posted there for a while. Some good stuff though!
    I briefly,"met" Eugune once, I was acting as doorman for a gig featuring three Fife bands, in an Edinburgh venue, Eugene came in as a punter, one of the members of a band that was on, happened to be standing with me at the time, so Eugene got in for nothing!

    The Daddy's of Pop Punk. Only made one studio album but it is an absolute banger and massively influential in the way the Stooges were 10 years earlier. Every track on the album could have been released as a single and I would recommend 'Cold Wars', 'Good Sculptures' and the cover of Fleetwood Mac's 'Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight'. They released a live album after they split and John Callis went onto join The Human League for the 'Dare' album onwards

    The Rezillos were cartoonish and fun and a welcome contrast to a some of the earnestness prevalent in a lot of new wave bands. There was always an undercurrent of fun within British music that was a little too good to just be dismissed as novelty.

      @@mightyV444 ha, ha - one of their ''banned'' songs that made them cooler.
      I am a little funny with this method of making requests. I don't know if I'm being rude by putting a channel's name with song/artist title.
      GIllian told me it's the best way if I want them to view specific videos and other people do it this way.
      Back in the Countdown days I learned how to be pushy and ''naggy'' to programmers of both 3XY and Countdown when it came to things I wanted.
      I just hope these are not coming across as abrupt and impolite.

      @@I_was_a_Countdown_Kid-75-83 - Yeh nah, I agree that it's best to also add the channel's name to a song request. You could've at least said "please", though! 😄😉 I had once suggested a song *without* naming the specific channel, and then C&C went for a bland-sounding live version and didn't like it. I've also meanwhile gotten the impression that constantly repeating a request is having the opposite effect on them (I've seen others do it. Not me).

    • @Sandy-dd4le
      @Sandy-dd4le Год назад +2

      I remember the first time I found Australian people talking about Countdown, it was exceptionally weird. In the UK, Countdown is a word based, TV quiz show, which comedian, Frankie Boyle once described as a show watched by, " old people waiting for death".....you can imagine my confusion.

    • @liveitup67
      @liveitup67 Год назад +3

      @@Sandy-dd4le lol. I can imagine the confusion.
      I noticed there was a UK Countdown, and a Dutch Countdown - the latter being somewhat inspired by the Aussie Countdown.
      Our Countdown might have caused old people to want an early death. It wasn't liked by older people, or anybody over 25.
      My sister and I were regular studio attendees.

    • @mightyV444

      @LiveItUp - Yeah, kind of... I don't think *any* German TV music show had really been like Countdown, already in regards to such a young and also enthusiastic audience! 😄 There was also only 1 episode per month, and the programme had only run for a whole 4, maybe 5 years, too. But there also was the short-lived 'Music Box' show, from about 1980 onwards, in which you'd often see people in the predominantly young audience spot themselves on the monitor screens, too: ruclips.net/video/liFKVTdrzqw/видео.html (That's the only good-quality video I could find; I had the 45 of that song - I still don't understand 90% of the lyrics today 😅)

    • @liveitup67
      @liveitup67 Год назад +3

      @@mightyV444 Hey that's fascinating! A real Germanic feel! I discovered a German band called The Stripes that featured Nena! I loved ''99 Luftballoons''... I'm very surprised that there was only 1 episode per month. Countdown was once a week, and you had to really squeeze in those days. There'd be different slots for different ages. Hayley and I would sometimes be mixed in with children (7 to 11 year olds), and other times we would be pushed with the older teen crowd. INXS had to endure a children crowd with ''Simple Simon'', whilst The Knack got the mid-teen crowd, and something like Chris Rea would get a mid to late teens/early twenties crowd. It was kinda weird how they did things like that. Some bands were happy with children because kids would vague out and stare at studio lights. Mid-teens were unpredictable. They'd either talk through your set, give you a bored look, or try to touch below the belt. Countdown would eventually create space between audience and performer.
