    You have to love when the artists respect (honor) the original version of a song. Nothing worse then seeing the Rolling Stone butcher their own songs.

    Batuka and No One to Depend On are the back to back opening tracks on Santana III. I remember listening to those songs non-stop… Best opening tracks on any album ever imo!

    I loved seeing how Neal Schon pushed Carlos. It's great seeing the original Santana members Rolie, Shrieve, Carabello and Carlos. I would have liked to have seen Chepito join to complete the original lineup minus Dave Brown R.I.P. Neal Schon didn't join the band until their third album but he still adds to the flavor of the early days.

    Happy 67th Birthday Neal Joseph Schon.. February 27, 1954 Tinker Air Force Base. I didn't know he was an Okie from Tinkler.. Doesn't matter.. He is a hell of a guitar player.

    The whole concert was good value. At 69 (Carlos) playing with his old pals. And not compromising. Sound and video quality good. Relentless percussion not to be denied. Crowd also cool - not young wanabes with hands in the air, but rather witnesses to a phenomena.

    Santana was married in Hawaii.
    To Lenny Kravitz' drummer.

    Neal was a prodigy when he joined the band. Story was he had his choice with Carlos or Eric. Eric's drug use steered him Carlos' super talented band - on top from the awesome Abraxas success. Neal added a youthful, passionate, energy and pushed Carlos to another level. Their trades, fills, and soaring double leads were the best. The two lead guitar sound was at its peak or it was peaking at the time. BOAT concert was this band at the Palladium in NYC on the album tour.

      Dr. Lacazotte, says yeah - when Neal joined he was 15 and earned enough with Santana to drive a Maz right into high school. 1st opinion - we're musicians. You should already know this --- it's Santana, not anyone else. Sorry man.

      On the studio version of "No one to depend on" there are 2 guitar solos: Carlos Santana and Neal Schon (there is NO organ solo).
      On the studio version of "Batuka" there is a guitar solo by Carlos Santana and an organ solo by Gregg Rolie, but in No one to depend on (studio version) there is NO organ solo.

    this video is the proof: carlos is still a great guitarist, but neil was ever the more skilled axman.
    and you can hear that old Carlos still gives him no room to play, thats why neil left santana after a short time.

      @wilfredojr.causing1608 10 месяцев назад +5

      No man that’s not the reason why Gregg and Neal left the band to form Journey. It’s the difference in musical direction that the band broke. Carlos was into Jazz while Gregg and Neal were into Hendrix. And instead of compromising and collaborating between Jazz and Rock they let their egos get the better of them. And about who’s the better guitarist I think they’re at par with each other. They just have different styles. Carlos is melodic and jazzy while Neal is flashy with his British blues style. They were a fusion band in the first place. They fused Rock Blues and Jazz with Latin Rhythms. They should have continued with the lineup and made more albums with their kind of sound just for their loyal fans anyways. Their sound was the best in the entire Santana catalog. It was unique and legendary and cannot be replicated without Chepito Areas and Dave Brown as well as Coke Escuvedo.

      @@wilfredojr.causing1608 I think that carlos doesn't need a 2nd axman, doesnt matter what band he was in...

      @wilfredojr.causing1608 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@echoTVat I agree. Though I still think their sound with that two guitar attack was really great. Maybe at par with the Allmans in terms of quality and impact but distinctively unique in its own way.
