My anger at myself lately has been explosive. I'm trying so hard to control it. I think it's coming out of the frustration with the pandemic and the current moral and policial landscape we are all feeling with.
@Robert. You have company, I am also struggling, but trying best I can. I am realizing I can’t combat this many sided battle, but beg the Good Lord to rescue me, as I repeatedly stumble!
I have had this issue as well, I found some lectures on RUclips that offered strategies that help. Mostly non-religious, but funny thing is, they seem to be Biblical principles explained in down to earth terms I could understand and implement.
“Do you accuse others and excuse yourself…” Wow. This makes sense. I struggle sometimes with just being frustrated and in a bad mood and I tend to forget God and Jesus and His mercy. I think about how I may be getting angry and how I feel instead of remembering God and His mercy and that I’m also a sinner, and that I’m not perfect. I accuse others and excuse myself and don’t show mercy. Thank you for helping me see this. May God bless you all, your families, and your friends! We must allow Him, fully, into our lives, souls, and minds. Trust God and know that He knows, sees, and has got you! ❤
Thank you for all your wonderful commentaries, Dr. Pitre. Right now, I pray for your safety and the safety of all the great people in Louisiana that are suffering due to Hurricane Ida.
My anger is 99.9. % of the time against myself.. frustration and anxiety at my own shortcomings and failures. I do unfortunately sometimes snap at others when in this state, not because of anything they have done against me, but because they may have inadvertently placed a further obstacle in my way to success in my goal. 😢

Thank you. I will try this. If I could just remember to stop and pause before I respond to others’ transgressions toward me. That is key. Too quick to rush in and win the argument or react to the conflict.
The brief encounters with David and Napal( or nabal) is very interesting. For David looked up to napal as a father figure but was ultimately betrayed when napal compared David to an insect and belittling him. David took a lot out of his time protecting napals possessions in the desert but napal didn’t take notice. This pissed David off and angered him to the point of David attempting to kill off Napals whole family. The Bible can get pretty savage and dark.
Awesome lesson Dr.Pitre! It’s relatable, practical, and illuminating. Fun fact : which Pope wrote five volumes on Job. Humility would be a great topic.👀
my partner is quick to get angry at me when I do something wrong. but when she does somethin wrong, I do remember the times I made mistakes. and I try and not hold onto grudge, against her. but when she holds grudges against me, I feel like I have no choice but to either run away from her. and then she calls me coward. or continue arguing and fueling the anger
I don't mean to condemn them, but I agree with you fully, throw the Evangelicals and non denominations in that group too, they are zealots severely lacking in charity, no true desire for Christ only lust for pride, they have many God's one of which is the obsession of winning an argument, the other is attack anything that don't conform to their ideologies. They are also highly suspicious of everyone other than their kind. They immersed themselves with conspiracy theories. These same bunch will be preaching about surrendering to God how does that even work out when you're 24/7 in suspicion of your neighbor your brother sister whom Christ had commanded to show charity of the Samaritan......Sigh! I'm sorry to mean to generalize but I have see enough to say that most American Christians are like that.
@@eileen1820Thanks Eileen, I'm sorry really for venting out and apologies too to all Americans definitely a great nation. I was at tipping point a moment ago but heck these who attack my faith are my brothers and sisters too and I do keep them in my prayers daily. I guess I need to ask the Lord for more healing kindly keep me in prayer.
Hi Dr Petrie, unfortunately this doesn't work for me. I just get angry at myself as well. What do I do? I just keep getting angrier and angrier at the person, at myself, and pretty much at everything...
Difference between just anger and unjust anger. Just anger is never emotional. And let’s remember that we want God to forgive us, so we must forgive. And that He, in the end, is the final judge. I highly recommend this book called “Be Healed” by Bob Schuchts. He talks about how the root of the sin of anger is insecurity.
Just anger is fine but if you let it turn into hate then you just cooperated with your souls adversary. “Vengeance is mine says the Lord”It’s not easy being catholic.
Actually, St. Gregory's solution doesn't work at all; all his advice will do is generate self-hatred and thus hatred and brutality against neighbor, ending in suicide. What does work is to isolate oneself away from one's neighbor inside oneself and to prevent oneself from being touched by one's neighbor, no matter what. Then you literally *cannot* be offended by anyone, as their words do not lead to hurt in the self at all... they merely reflect the speaker himself, not the one spoken to. Knowing that you're immune to anger's effects; as the only things that'll tick you off is your own sins, and that's only going to be against yourself, ever.
Do I care, Dr. Pitre if you've got a German temper? As far as I'm concerned; that's none of my business what your ethnicity is... you're a man, you're charged with your life and living it right- woe be to you if you do not- but that's not *I* who'll condemn you, you'd do *that* to yourself on your final judgement... *I* will not be impacted either way, unless I let you impact me.
Unlike Jeremiah, Isaiah and John the Baptist, Pitre doesn't distinguish between righteous and unrighteous anger. Theologian-philosopher Peter Kreeft - who has written 75 books on Catholic apologetics - points out that there is way more evil in the world from Catholics who are not angry about things they should be angry about, than things they are angry about but shouldn't be. Or, as President John F. Kennedy put it, "We should never tolerate an intolerable situation." Which is why Our Lord whipped the money changers out of the Temple and blasted the Pharisees as being "sons of hell." Our bishops and priests are the same way. They couldn't give a hoot about how many sacrilegious communions they give out, universal contraception, a pope who is out to destroy the Catholic faith, abortion, gay clergy etc. Not supporting climate change, vaccines, and unrestricted immigration are the new capital sins we need to be angry at.
Anger is a most horrible and pleasurable vice. I must strive against it and practice patience and humility.
This short clip is so important, because anger is so difficult to master.
I needed to hear this today. So angry with my son. Thank you Dr Pitre..God bless you.
