Please do so! I am really struggeling with this and your information has always proven to be trustworty and usefull. A video on this topic would be truely appreciated.
This helped me finally start to squat past parallel, I used to squat exactly as he mentioned where you bend forward which feels like you are squating deeper
the adductor and abductor machines also improve your squat depth. You'll make great progress in no time, even though the muscle soreness is on whole new level.
You could do a long video, going over huge mobility problems and your personal ways of fixing them. IE: Hips, Ankles, Lower Back, Shoulders and Wrists. That would be amazing!
I can barely go lower than the parallel and you have just shown me why. Thanks for the tip, I do appreciate your work and your sharing it with everyone, keep it up!
It took me forever to find a video with this exact info. First, I thought it was just knee pain keeping me from a full squat and when I corrected that, I found out I was pretty much doing a half squat/ half good morning. It's been driving me nuts trying to get a proper squat. Thx
Scott my name is Raymond and I'm 40 going on 41 this month. I have been doing cross fit a little then a year. I subscribe to your channel about a month ago and your my favorite fitness channel by far man. I have learned so much watching your channel then with some of my coaches at my box man.I just wanted to thank you for having this channel and for sharing your love for fitness on RUclips .
I've been working out for about 7 months and squat was always the death of me couldn't find the right weight range or even the right depth but recently I've focused on it more and this video I can already tell is gonna help me develop
I am no expert but your approach just makes more sense. When I go parallel I feel it a little in my glutes but more in the quads and I always thought we should squat lower. Thanks for the info.
Glad I could help Lawton!! :-) Have you signed up for a 12 week program yet?! Last few weeks to get in for prizes! muscularstrength.com/12-week-challenge-workouts
Admit it this video was just to show off how flexible those pants are. We're onto you! Edit: I posted the comment before reaching the end of the video where you go over the pants haha
1st time I went ALL the way down, I had to go from the 225 I Thought I was lifting to about 95 lbs to stay balanced, stable, and get three good sets to failure. I hurt SOOO much more the next three days from 95 lbs done right than I ever did trying to squat 225 improperly. now I'm getting 185 as my second and third set and seeing much more progressive growth. Thanks Scott for all the great info.
Thank you so much for sharing this video!!! I have been asking so many people how to squat deeper as I was bringing my chest forward and lifting my heels up but nobody told me to stretch. Will do these stretches!
This will definitely help you get a lower squat Liana!! Have you signed up for a 12 week program yet?! Last few weeks to get in for prizes! muscularstrength.com/12-week-challenge-workouts
ScottHermanFitness already following a program for the next 3 months but will look into it after that :D keep up the amazing videos, love your channel and content! X
Thanks a lot Scott.... I thought i am squating as to grass though i have bad knees..... .today I was filming my squat and it was disappointing.... My knees wear not guilty.. No it was my tight hips as you mentioned.... No need to mention my back pain.... Now i know whats i am going to do... Thanks to you
Now that my shoulder is flexible again, today was the first day that I've done squats. All the stretching has paid off. I only did 135. But my form was good. I'm happy
Loved your video on squats. Helped so much. I started CrossFit at 69 and could barely do a squat. Although I’ve improved over the past year and a half, I never could get a full squat until I saw your video and implemented your suggested exercises.
Wow this is EXACTLY my problem. I came up with stretches myself but really glad I found this video. The validation is super helpful. Great explanation. Time for “bah-bell” stretches!
I think it might also be beneficial to mention anatomical limitations or differences that create those limits. A big one is femur length, and I have been working through that one my whole life. Everyone is a bit different in hip and joint flexibility as well, which obviously makes it hard to create a definitive guide for squatting. But, there is a stance and toe angle for everyone!
Yup. Injured my lower back quite badly from squats due to very tight hips. Thanks for these tips. Super careful doing squats now, nothing worse than a loser back injury. Affects everything. Thanks Scott. Very useful.
I hear that man! That's why I make these videos, to keep you safe in the gym :-) Have you signed up for a 12 week program yet?! Last few weeks to get in for prizes! muscularstrength.com/12-week-challenge-workouts
What about people with torsos relatively short to their long legs? They cant remain upright unless they widen their stance and point their toes a little more.
Exactly. I am exactly like this (tall with small torso and long legs) and squats have been a challenge for me for so long. Can't really do ass to grass but learning every day.
Wow this is REALLY helping me. I've had this problem especially with front squats since I can remember. Will definitely practice these tips, you're a good guy Scott!
One stretch you should try for front squats is squatting down with the barbell resting over your legs (just behind the knees) and a bench supporting your back to stay upright. I usually do for a minute 1-2x and then roll my heels over a lacrosse ball for better ankle mobility.
Hey Scott, you should make a video on how to properly create mind muscle connection in weaker and lagging muscles. Would love to listen to what you have to say about it!
2:17 explains my old man hips to a T.--when i do the exercises u recommend and stand up the front of my hips feel painfully tight around the sartorius insertion :(
Thanks Scott! Of all the videos I've watched this one has been the most relevant and helpful. Really been struggling with my squat depth and hoping this will help!
This actually helped me today! I did a lighter set today to focus on the form, but God it felt amazing going ass to grass without using my back! I hate to admit it, but I was doing a hybrid of good-morning/squat due to tight hips before this came out. Thank you Scott for sharing this information! You just earned a sub.
Hip Flexors are my enemy - desk job sux for mobility. I ended up over a year spending time foam rolling, doing hip flexor stretches, and resistance band training to pull the hip flexors stretched. Still not 100% able to go all the way down but getting closer. Also keep in mind super tight hips can cause back pain. Great vid Scott!
Great information! My squats are terrible and I almost always get back pain so this video is gold for me! (But, you don't need to yell it to everyone. It's harder to listen to.)
Thanks for watching my friend!! Have you signed up for a 12 week program yet?! Last few weeks to get in for prizes! muscularstrength.com/12-week-challenge-workouts
my main problem , when i get tired , more pushing myself much more with righ leg. in additon ,moving my body to right leg. How to optimize myself. i got learn so much thing about squad for u bro. thanks for more videos
u win me with this video, i have watched some of your videos and u have a really decent advice, i have use one of these strech exercises before, to improve my squads so i know for a tact that they work i just wish i watched this video earlier, any way i going to try this ones and hit the grass.
Hi Scott, I have 1 question. Do you recommend squatting with your toes facing forward, or in the position where your body feels most natural and why Would you recommend this? I can see in your form and in my own form that my feet face slightly outward. i am studying NASM to become a personal trainer and they say you have to squat with your feet facing forward. this would mean i should have to lengthen my abductor muscles and strengthen my adductor muscles before i can squat properly without my toes being forced outwards during the movement. thanks in advance💪

I generally find people's ankle flexibility is a huge limiting factor
That plays a part too. Maybe a video for another day :-)
That's my major problem :/
You also mentioned shoulders. I think that might be an issue I have. Id love to see some tips on that as well.
Please do so! I am really struggeling with this and your information has always proven to be trustworty and usefull. A video on this topic would be truely appreciated.
hennas87 flexibility in general is a large limiting factor in most lifts
THIS IS EXACTLY what’s happening when I squat! I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why or what I was doing wrong! Thank you for this!
This helped me finally start to squat past parallel, I used to squat exactly as he mentioned where you bend forward which feels like you are squating deeper
Me too
Did you have to lose less weight at first and get used to it?
@@mamareadsafricaoriginal8770 yes
How long did it take u to get really low?
@@Lachronix it helped straight away but I needed to drop down in weight before working my way back up
the adductor and abductor machines also improve your squat depth. You'll make great progress in no time, even though the muscle soreness is on whole new level.
Very true. Especially the abductor which is basically a way of doing this stretch, just with added resistance.
Who else watching this even if they can go ass to grass?
Thumbs up for that :-D
😂😂 ✋
Ayye Scott repplied^^
Darko Slavković me lol but i feel it should have for buttwink if u ever heard of such

good advice. I just realized why I get a back pain after doing squats. because of lyning forward and putting the weight on my back.
