    I feel your videos are the best conceptual videos on internet. Also the length of all videos are great, i would rather watch a 10 min video than a 5 minute quickie. Thanks Prof. Giles.

    This is a VERY GOOD teacher. Listening to the advice he gives and how he teaches he is spot on. I am a "leglocker" in jiu jitsu and he is right about leglocks not taking long to develop. But there are fundamentals that take longer to develop and a white belt may decide to focus on lower body submissions at the expense of fundamentals and even be successful with them for some time but if an opponent can stave off those locks then they are dead in the water.

      This. And unfortunately it will get them very far for quite a long time and then eventually they'll hit a rock hard wall. If you're reading this, turst trust is, food locks are a shortcut to winning, but you'll pay at the very end, when it matters most.

    Is there a reason you butterfly the far leg as opposed to the near leg?
    Is it so that the angle of your inside leg/knee further impedes him from rolling onto the "weak side" and eacaping?

      there is a heel hook counter when you tuck on the near leg, they can reach down and just pull your heel. Dean Lister explains it in a couple of his videos...

      Yeah and it also helps to controll your opponent, as he explains in the video

      if you mean from the ashigarami, your foot between the legs should hook the leg you dont hold cause it makes you connect that leg to the other, to make it Close the gap, so the person cant escape too easy.
      If you Place your hook on the same leg, its harder to "Close the circle" with your own legs.

    Man I wish I saw this video sooner. Would've saved me the embarrassment of getting caught in a straight ankle lock 15 seconds into my first match 💀

    Leg locks will get you a fast track to winning some NAGA and Newbreed tournaments and you'll feel on top of the world, then you'll hit brown belt and realize you've made a grave mistake.

    are footlocks dangerous for white belts to use in sparring?

    • @AbsoluteMMAStKilda
      @AbsoluteMMAStKilda  7 лет назад +13

      Hi Dan, straight footlocks are not too dangerous as you have time to tap but rotational leg locks such as heel hooks can be dangerous if both parties aren't aware of exactly whats going on.

    if the attacker puts their right foot on the opponent's hip (after their left leg has been brushed away), isn't that considered "reaping the knee" within an IBJJF tournament?
