Die hard Yankee fan here. But I’m also a child of the 90s. And Jr. was it! He WAS the game. I was obsessed with baseball (still am) and dang…that swing that Griffey had was just perfection! I hit left-handed and all I wanted was to swing like Griffey (Will Clark, Robin Ventura and Rafael Palmeiro were my other choices). But Jr.’s swing was always the best! Sad to see my man Cone getting rocked by Griffey. David still jokes about how Jr. had his number in Yankee broadcasts. 1995 was tough for me…still the last time I cried after a ballgame (that horrific Game 5 in Seattle!) 😞 But yea…I’m here to praise Griffey’s swing. A
Mariners fan here. Those were fun days in the late 90's. Big Unit, the Bone, Edgar, Tino, Dan, A-Rod, and of course Griffey and his sweet swing. I swear they never looked like home runs coming off his bat as he was so effortless. Then they just grew wings an flew. That swing was such a thing of beauty...
i've heard the words effortless thrown around before, but this transcends that. It genuinely looks like the bat is moving in slow motion as an extension of his arms but the motion is so fluid that you'd think it would be faster than it is but it's still hard to see because his bat was black, his sleeves were dark blue and tv back then sucked in terms of definition.
His swing was completely effortless. It looks like he's reaching for an outside pitch every time, which you'd think would take away from his pop, but it absolutely did not.
my all-time favorite athlete and as indescribable a swing as tiger woods. you can't make words relate what the motion entices in you. it is pure athletic brilliance. all that power and he turns his hips so effortlessly through it. i remember the backwards hat, the bat swivel, all of it being so culturally significant. i'm a lefty, too, so everything i did in little league was to be ken griffey jr. outside of MJ and Tiger, for sure, and arguably allen iverson and michael vick, i think ken griffey jr. has the most lasting impact of all athletes to us late 80's-early 90's babies. and top 5 to an entire generation is a pretty monumental contribution
I heard one describe his swing how he pushed off his back side l say ues and no he strides pivots his FRONT lower side hands take over in his beautiful bat path the pivot of his front effects his hands arms lower back side they were pulled Not pushed then then the hands go into action untwsting as he said himself long thru the hitting zone in a flow with those hands if you untwist your wrists corretly with slight upswing the sweet spot is exposed long thu hitting zone ANDthat is when push look at Mike Austin thru the golf swing the front hip pibots and opens if you push lower bsck half too soon l dont think you will be behind the swing you could lose posture and powee lm not going to say who said that but l think they need to test their theories off moving pitches. I do
He was robbed of his legacy as best player of his generation. People like to pretend Bonds would've done the same thing with or without the steroids. The fact is when they were both clean, Griffey was CLEARLY the better power hitter and RBI producer, had the better glove and actually hit for a slightly better average. Bonds was the better base stealer, had a better OBP and OPS, and a little better WAR.
Great hitter but not the greatest of all time. Theres some other players id argue were better. Ted Williams comes to mind. No disprespect at all to Griffey.
Prettiest swing of all time from pure mechanics. When everyone juiced. No disrespect to Ted in any way but I’d like to believe pitching and analytics were better in Griffey’s era.
That's definitely what made his swing what it was. He didn't need to lift his lead leg two feet off the ground and plant himself like a redwood. He just swung the bat and made things happen. Lifelong and diehard Dodgers fan but Griffey is my favorite player of all time.
1:06 is probably the best example of how beautiful his swing was. It flowed effortlessly and almost just seemed like the bar just glided perfectly.
Soooooo effortless.
It looks like he barely even tried and it just rocketed into the upper deck...absolutely poetic
The fact that he put both in the same area is so impressive to me and I’m not a baseball guy.
Either my eyes need to be checked or it creates an illusion that he hit it twice

Too bad you all had no bullpen
Ridiculously effortless. That’s crazy how easy it looks for him.

Effortless and smooth.
"Reaching for an outside pitcb every time" is the best way I heard someone described that movement.
Because of the extension after contact. His swing is compact and he stays inside the ball though.

A thing of beauty to watch him at the plate.
Smooth explosive power. Effortless and a thing of beauty.
Man I wanted to be Griffey so bad, started wearing my hat backwards and all
😂 same
Can you teach me his swing?
The most GORGEOUS swing in baseball history. The GOAT player imo.
Ken Griffey Jr and Barry Bonds are my two favorite players EVER
ken griffey jr is a legend no question
His head never moves, never out of position well hitting. Never over swings! Wait is he a robot?!?!?!?😂😂😂
Never has a human been made to do something that is perfection but his swing is damn close! Wow made for hardball!
What did David Cone ever do to whoever made this video?
his swing is so pretty that you can't even really see it because his bat and his sleeves were black...it's genuinely kind of amazing.
Huge smile.
He hit the upper deck like he wasn't even trying.
Seriously, that was like my swing on a 60ft to the green lob wedge. 😅
bro owned david cone 😭
Griffey: "I dont do blunts...I smoke Cones" 😂
My mother would so gracefully put this. It was his ass that gave him his power.
Should do barry bonds and the most violent swing. Maybe use some of those water homeruns and just nukes into mccovey cove
POOR DAVID CONE
"didn't juice" subjective.
Watching his swing is like crack
As a kid it seemed like Griffey jr either struck out or hit a hr. I know thats not true but to kid me, thats all he was
Are all these HRs against Cone? lol Poor guy

Whis here because of magic don juan?
can dress like him but no one can be him
I guess this guy is not a big yankee/david cone fan.

You must don’t like the Yankees lol
One of the better swings and he wasn't a big man
Ken Griffey is the man. But Barry Bonds is The GOAT
Bonds would be the greatest ever, sucks he had to juice. Barry was on his way to becoming a HOFer without steroids.
lol no
😍 P R O M O S M
Looks good but not a perfect swing. George Brett had a perfect swing. Tony Gwynn also.
new baseball fan, dont see the hype in his swing. looks like all upperbody.
yep you are new, enough said,,,,

Hank Arron’s the best hitter of all time
Jr put truple coats of lacquer on his bat...look it up. The league covered for him.
