Anja, I have been making hats using the basic process you have in this tutorial, however, after crocheting several rows and want to end, I find that I am on the row just above where I want to end. I can't properly end because to do the last slip stitch means making the slip stitch into the first stitch on the row below. I am new to crocheting and can't for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong.????
Would appreciate your help if you have time.

On the other hand, if you ARE making a hat, start with 8 stitches (instead of 10), and it will curve correctly until you begin the straight sides.

That is funny. I use little stories to remind me of stitches. Years ago I had to remember where the wires went at worh . I had a brown ,green and a blue
My story was brown is earth green is grass and blue sky. I never forgot where to put my wires.
I do the same thing with crochet. But I'm old now so it dosen't always work.
Thank you for this little story.

#OpheliaTalks Hi Anja! Your method of remembering how each row works for the increase is awesome! I did a search for "crochet flat circle" Your method turned out to be THE best! Thank you so much! Can I use this method for a hdc? Will it still come out flat? One last thing. Your method brought back memories of when my boys were toddlers; my youngest was eating his broccoli florets (which I referred to them as little tree's - lol) anyway, he had left one little tree on his plate so I told him to eat his last tree but he said he was too full and I said to him, "But you can't leave him all alone...all his other friends are in your belly and they're waiting for him. He is all scared on the plate bc he is all alone." I can't believe someone else thinks like I do...lol. My son said, "Ooookay mom, I'll send him down to be with his friends." hahahaha. Whatever works, right? I just subscribed and gave this video a like. xx

    • @OpheliaTalks

It is the same principle of adding the amount of stitches. So you still increase by 2 stitches per stitch on the second round. So if you have in round one 5 sc, in round two you will have 10 sc….., hope this helps you, Anja x

Hi again...now that I've "mastered" this circle I want to continue adding rows without any further increase. After I completed my increases I ss to join and ch 2 which I considered the last stitch of row. I continued in first stitch as directed in this video and crocheted 39 DC, but I thought the 39th DC would be made in the stitch that contained the ch 2 or the last stitch of row. It wasn't. If I crochet a DC in that stitch I will have crocheted 40 DC which looks like 2 DC in one stitch and once I join with ss I will have 41 DC. I hope I've explained this clearly. I'm confused and don't understand why this didn't work, what am I missing here? I also read a pattern that says after the last increase row you join with ss, ch 2, and turn your work. I'm not sure which stitch I'd work into next. When do I crochet into stitch where the ch 2 is or into the next stich? Do you have any videos that could help clarify my question? I really liked this video! You were very thorough with explanations on counting stitches after each row, where to join, etc. I appreciate any information you can provide. Thank you again.

Ophelia I started a project in the round and was going nuts trying to keep my rounds flat while increasing. I even looked for videos to help those I saw were either fast or making no sense. I found yours and was very elated. Did I say I am 69 years old and have been crocheting since 8 yrs of age. In my 40's I picked up my hook again along with many projects. You are a FANTASTIC INSTRUCTOR. And your method isn't silly at all if that's what's working for you and it helps others. Thank you for demystifying increasing rounds and keeping the project flat.

Oh, Anja, what an awesome memory tip for crocheting in the round. As you said, it may be a silly little thing, but who cares when it's greatly helping you to keep track? I'm all for tips and tricks for memory or crochet. Thanks again, Anja, for your wonderful guidance.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Counting the first ch2 as the last stitch instead of the first makes all the difference. Your instructions do indeed make a perfectly flat circle with no seam. When making a hat, I've found that starting with 8 stitches (instead of 10) will cause the crown of the hat to gently curve down to where the straight sides begin.

Anja, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I will never dread beanies ever again and not have that dreadful crooked line either! You are such a love. My Nanny and my Grandmother's help teach me to crochet. Also, our housekeeper, helped when my parents would go out of country. They had a dairy farm in Surrey. I loved it there. It just took a few days to get acclimated to the smell of silage. Whew! That is some smelly stuff! However, after a few days one couldn't smell it anymore.
I do rattle on! I do appreciate you so much. I've been a subscriber forever and have always loved you. But this video will change my crochet life! You see, I have eight grandchildren and they love my beanies. I take them to pick out their yarn and then I whip up their little beanies, some not so little anymore.❤ Thank you dear one!

The scared new stitch idea and number of row equals the number of stitch where you multiply is a brilliant idea for someone with poor memory. Each time you said scared stitch, I couldn’t help but chuckle. Thank you lots.

the scared stitch story is like a better way of explaining how I had originally remembered it, like a Fibonacci like sequence, increasing the ones between the 2's as you increase the layers, 2 being 2, 2, 3 being 2, 1, 2, 4 being 2, 1, 1, 2, 5 being 2, 1, 1, 1, 2 and so on
