I hope this video will help you with crocheting a flat circle with no seam. Thank you for watching, Anja xx
Such an awesome explanation to remember how many to increase with each row! Thank you so much!!
It is not silly at all , it is very helpful tips and explained very well. Thanks a lot for your effort 👍👍
@Hiba Riyas she's used to it , she doesn't need to do it slowly
By far the clearest explanation and demonstration I’ve seen on RUclips. Thank you!
DIANE
Anja, I have been making hats using the basic process you have in this tutorial, however, after crocheting several rows and want to end, I find that I am on the row just above where I want to end. I can't properly end because to do the last slip stitch means making the slip stitch into the first stitch on the row below. I am new to crocheting and can't for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong.????
Would appreciate your help if you have time.
THANK YOU SO MUCH... I'm 74 and like MaryintheMaking below, I am grateful to have this "demystified". Your video is a blessing to crochet fans world-wide. BLESSINGS to you from Oregon.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching Sue G. ! Anja xxx 💕🌈

LOL 😂
Ikr😂 sameeee
LOL. 😂 Thanks for watching my video Lindyloo37 and keep crocheting. Anja xxx💕🌈💕
On the other hand, if you ARE making a hat, start with 8 stitches (instead of 10), and it will curve correctly until you begin the straight sides.
I was struggling regarding increase is every rows.. Watched two days many videos but finally got the trick. thank you💜💜💜
Wonderful! Well done Anja x
Thank you for sharing the secret of how to increase nicely. I love your explanation in this video 😉

Ah! This is such a helpful video! I’m relatively new to crochet and I found never remember how many I was meant to doing before an increase but this makes so much sense! Thank you for this video! ❤
Glad it was helpful Ola! I hope you enjoy your new found craft, Anja x
I’ve made a lot of circles and end up using stitch markers at some point. Your ‘scared stitch’ trick is brilliant!! Thank you!

I absolutely love how you explain the increase of each row!
I'm so glad you like it, it makes it easier to remember Deborah! Thank you, Anja x
I love this way of remembering! I have watched many tutorials and this is a really good one. Would it be OK if I reference it in a basket tutorial I am making? I like to refer my viewers (all 30 or so of them!) to good tutorials when I find them. Thanks and see you at the live Sunday! -Wippy Chick : )
Please do! Thank you for watching Wippy Chick ! Anja xxx 💕🌈

That is funny. I use little stories to remind me of stitches. Years ago I had to remember where the wires went at worh . I had a brown ,green and a blue
My story was brown is earth green is grass and blue sky. I never forgot where to put my wires.
I do the same thing with crochet. But I'm old now so it dosen't always work.
Thank you for this little story.
Very easy to understand!!! Thank you!!
Thank you a lot this is the best and easiest way and it helped me to finally understand ❤💗❤💗❤
What a wonderful tip!!! Thank you!!!
I'm confused about the "scared" one. How many singles before there's a repeat row by row? That's what I'm left trying to figure out.
I love you so much 😀🤗
Thank you for illuminating meeee!
You are so welcome Anja x
This is also my fav video...I just love the explanation of increasing the circle😍.... willing to win hiyahiya crochet hook set
cute story and just what i needed
Clever! Thanks, that’s a great tip!
Very Helpful... nicely explained 👍🏻
#OpheliaTalks Hi Anja! Your method of remembering how each row works for the increase is awesome! I did a search for "crochet flat circle" Your method turned out to be THE best! Thank you so much! Can I use this method for a hdc? Will it still come out flat? One last thing. Your method brought back memories of when my boys were toddlers; my youngest was eating his broccoli florets (which I referred to them as little tree's - lol) anyway, he had left one little tree on his plate so I told him to eat his last tree but he said he was too full and I said to him, "But you can't leave him all alone...all his other friends are in your belly and they're waiting for him. He is all scared on the plate bc he is all alone." I can't believe someone else thinks like I do...lol. My son said, "Ooookay mom, I'll send him down to be with his friends." hahahaha. Whatever works, right? I just subscribed and gave this video a like. xx
Great story !!! and yes, whatever works!! yes, it will still work for HDC! Thanks for your comment I truly appreciate it, I love reading stories like this!! Keep watching, Anja xxx
This is brilliant!!!! Thank you!
Thanks for watching my video Alexandria, keep crocheting. Anja x
Thank you.
You're welcome Lakkhana, Anja x
very good lesson
Question: does what stitch you’re doing affect this? And does it matter if I, for example, am doing 1 round of single crochet, and then 1 round of half double crochet?
No meba444, it shouldn't make any difference, however, be mindful of your tension! Thanks, Anja x
Do you have a tutorial for single crochet circles? Mine ends up in a bowl :( the patten has me to magic ring 5sc
It is the same principle of adding the amount of stitches. So you still increase by 2 stitches per stitch on the second round. So if you have in round one 5 sc, in round two you will have 10 sc….., hope this helps you, Anja x
Superb
Thanks 🤗 Anja x
Hi again...now that I've "mastered" this circle I want to continue adding rows without any further increase. After I completed my increases I ss to join and ch 2 which I considered the last stitch of row. I continued in first stitch as directed in this video and crocheted 39 DC, but I thought the 39th DC would be made in the stitch that contained the ch 2 or the last stitch of row. It wasn't. If I crochet a DC in that stitch I will have crocheted 40 DC which looks like 2 DC in one stitch and once I join with ss I will have 41 DC. I hope I've explained this clearly. I'm confused and don't understand why this didn't work, what am I missing here? I also read a pattern that says after the last increase row you join with ss, ch 2, and turn your work. I'm not sure which stitch I'd work into next. When do I crochet into stitch where the ch 2 is or into the next stich? Do you have any videos that could help clarify my question? I really liked this video! You were very thorough with explanations on counting stitches after each row, where to join, etc. I appreciate any information you can provide. Thank you again.
Hi Ophelia mine is coming up like hexagon . Why????
I'm sorry, but without seeing it, I don't know why it's not a circle, Anja x
Maybe I should do a bonnet
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I was wondering why my "circles" were coming out as a hexagon. You really cleared things up for me. I love your stories about the stitches which also REALLY HELPS me understand the why and the how for the increases. Also, I love your accent!
Ophelia I am 57 and have been crocheting and knitting for 52 of those years. You just demystified the whole process for me. 🙂 I especially appreciate your explanation of the first chain and the slip stitch forming the top of that last stitch. Thank you, thank you for cementing the process for me. ❤️
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching MaryintheMaking ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
Ophelia I'm 69 yrs and have been crocheting since I was 8 years old and yes you make more sense and your way demystifies, thank you.
Ophelia I started a project in the round and was going nuts trying to keep my rounds flat while increasing. I even looked for videos to help those I saw were either fast or making no sense. I found yours and was very elated. Did I say I am 69 years old and have been crocheting since 8 yrs of age. In my 40's I picked up my hook again along with many projects. You are a FANTASTIC INSTRUCTOR. And your method isn't silly at all if that's what's working for you and it helps others. Thank you for demystifying increasing rounds and keeping the project flat.
I agree with MaryintheMaking!!! I started crocheting "circles" about 1 year ago. Every video I've watched had a different way of counting the stitches while making a flat circle, and none made sense to me. Your video made me feel like yelling "Hurray!" Thank you! 🤗
Hellosies, I know this is a few yrs old but I just watched this video & you wrote exactly what I was gonna say also, I've been crocheting for 40+ yrs & now I get it. 💖
Finally I understand how to increase! Been intimidated for years how to increase...I love the 'scared stitch' as it really explains how to increase! And it's not silly - it helped me!
Silly so called “scared stitch”
Me too!
At first I was confused about the scared stitch, but once it made sense I realised how genius it is (and easy to remember). Thank you!
You're very welcome Joan, glad it clicked for you, Anja x
It’s definitely not silly I think it’s one of the most brilliant things I have heard in a long time
So this is the video I picked. I’d love to enter even win the hook set. Congratulations on 60000. My on the 2+ yrs I’ve watched your channel has grown. cheers!
Sure
Seriously! There has been multiple times I have tried to do a circle and always came up with the wrong number... you slammed dunked my issue. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This is a definite game-changer! I’ve been crocheting for 56 years, and this is the first time I’ve felt completely confident in my rounds! Thank you soooo much!
Wonderful! Thank you for watching Theresa Hartman ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
😍i hope you a happy long life
Thank you so much, Anja, from sunny Trinidad! You are a natural born teacher. I will never forget this tip and I'm already imagining all the possibilities for flat circles - table runners, coasters, trivet, rugs, scrubbies.... Ahhh... the possibilities are endless!! Thanks again 😊
Oh, Anja, what an awesome memory tip for crocheting in the round. As you said, it may be a silly little thing, but who cares when it's greatly helping you to keep track? I'm all for tips and tricks for memory or crochet. I also noticed that with this process of chaining up 2 and then forgetting about it gives a much cleaner finish with no unsightly seam in the project. Thanks again, Anja, for your wonderful guidance.
yes, i kept doing this and making up the story in my head of the scared stitches, and one day i thought i have got to share this because it works!! also no seam visible indeed, added bonus !!! thanks for watching!! xxx
Anja, I have a tip for you in case you don't know of this one. It reminded me to share with you when you made your couch cushion with tassels and just kept forgetting. Did you know that if you steam your tassels, they will look very straight and pristine and just have a more professional look to them.
aaahh! yes, I was just waiting for them to 'straighten out' but that will speed it up and look nicer!! Thanks!! xxx
Another good thing other than no seam is that the circle is staying round - no strange corners like in some circle patterns!
Hello there Cindy, do you use this sc for amigurumis toys?
Best explanation I've ever seen of anything crochet. I've been crocheting about a year and there's other concepts even that I didn't really understand until this video, like how the chains and slip stitch together make a complete stitch. These silly stories really stick in your brain, ill never forget all thiis now
That's great news Jasmine, glad it's been helpful for you, Anja x
Thank you! I had trouble understanding the increase from row to row. Now i understand. Thanks so much!
Excellent! Thank you for watching Norafifah Safar ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
I have been crocheting for nearly 30 years. The brain drain that could've been avoided over all these years if I had ONLY known, the last stitch was afraid and wanted to stay with the stitch before.. it's a wonderful story I can tell to all my fellow hookers.. THANK YOU!!!
What a great way to teach little ones how to crochet! The little story is cute.
Also - thank you! After I don’t know how many years of trying to figure out how to do a magic circle, your tutorial is the only one that allowed me to - finally! - figure it out. Sounds silly, I know but, it was always elusive to me. So, again; thank you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Counting the first ch2 as the last stitch instead of the first makes all the difference. Your instructions do indeed make a perfectly flat circle with no seam. When making a hat, I've found that starting with 8 stitches (instead of 10) will cause the crown of the hat to gently curve down to where the straight sides begin.
Thank you for watching Voyager ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
I’m absolutely amazed how I understood your teachings in SECONDS - vs the last 5 hours I’ve spent on soooo many other platforms
Thank you for posting!!! 🥰
I will never get that out of my head now, four is scared so in with three. Its like 7 ate 9 joke, thanks Anja that cheered me up i have a cold at the moment so this is a pick-me-up when i am ill😃
Thanks for your comment, much appreciated! Keep watching xxx
Just a memory. This was the original RUclips video that got me hooked on Anja. Forever happy!
Awwww, thanks Nancy, Anja x
Thank you for your tip on making a flat circle. I've been trying to figure out the pattern for hours.😁
Thank you, I have always got in a muddle with this technique but not anymore. X

Omg this just makes sense now. Now i can make hundreds of scrubbies in the round
You are a good teacher. Thank-you.
The new stitch in the row is scared! What a fantastic way to remember this, I don't think I'll ever forget this. Thank you for this video! :)
Thank you for watching Jazzmin ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
Anja, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I will never dread beanies ever again and not have that dreadful crooked line either! You are such a love. My Nanny and my Grandmother's help teach me to crochet. Also, our housekeeper, helped when my parents would go out of country. They had a dairy farm in Surrey. I loved it there. It just took a few days to get acclimated to the smell of silage. Whew! That is some smelly stuff! However, after a few days one couldn't smell it anymore.
I do rattle on! I do appreciate you so much. I've been a subscriber forever and have always loved you. But this video will change my crochet life! You see, I have eight grandchildren and they love my beanies. I take them to pick out their yarn and then I whip up their little beanies, some not so little anymore.❤ Thank you dear one!
The scared new stitch idea and number of row equals the number of stitch where you multiply is a brilliant idea for someone with poor memory. Each time you said scared stitch, I couldn’t help but chuckle. Thank you lots.
Hi, thank you for watching my video, I'm so glad it's helping you remember the system, happy crocheting, Anja x
I get you, the way you think. I am a visual learner. I learn by instruction and hands on at the same time. I unable to learn by verbal means alone. I understand how you weave a story in order to remember. Thanks, I dont feel like I am alone in the way that I think! Thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome C Milam, I'm glad it helped you. Anja x
I don't know how long I've been trying to crochet this watermelon rug now, and started over and over again and it kept bending... Thank you SO so much for giving a proper walkthrough! It's amazing, simple and a cute way to remember. I can now start again, hopefully for the last time, and do it right!! 😁😁
Awwww, good luck with that project Josefine, Anja x
THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!!! I CAN MAKE A CIRCLE FINALLY ‼️ I LOVE YOUR LITTLE STORY IT REALLY WORKS😁🌷🌷🌷
Glad it helped!
This is absolutely brilliant! I had been totally stumped as to how to get perfectly flat rounds. Thank you so much for the awesome tutorial!
I’ve been doing amigurumi but I’ve never done a flat circle so thank you for this tutorial! I never thought to count my rows to figure out how many stitches to do with an increase! I love it!!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching Jennifer Hernandez ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
Mine does not look flat😫 Even when i did only row with 2dc in one V my circle looks like a plate. I knitted circles before for berets or bucket hats and they were allright. Now idk what i am doing wrong🥲
round 1 - 0:56
round 2 - 3:48
round 3 - 6:25
round 4 - 8:52
round 5 - 12:23
Thank you so much! The idea of the "scared" stitch is wonderful!I FINALLY have a flat circle.
the scared stitch story is like a better way of explaining how I had originally remembered it, like a Fibonacci like sequence, increasing the ones between the 2's as you increase the layers, 2 being 2, 2, 3 being 2, 1, 2, 4 being 2, 1, 1, 2, 5 being 2, 1, 1, 1, 2 and so on
I love love the way you explained the crocheting on the circle.
Love your heavenly hands that make magic, …❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹
Thank you so much! Thank you for watching Skittles31 skittles31 ! Anja xxx 💕🌈

Thank you Charissa, I find it's easier to remember, Anja x
Oh wowwwwww .. I simply loved your Story . And now I am sure ..I will get a flat circle . Each time... without worrying about the counts. This is the best explanation I have ever heard ... A small request ... 8f you could write down the counts and circles on a paper and show a pic in the end ..would be nice
Thank you soo much for the tip........I always get problem in making the flat circle ..............now m sure ur tip will help me alot......thanks again
Thank you for your excellent explanation of how to increase each row. I was wondering if you have a technique that helps join the circles into a scarf or blanket. Struggling to find a pattern for the bits in between the circles. Thank you
Wow! Perfect explanation. I needed this so badly! THANK YOU! You’re the best!
I am 63 yrs old and have been crocheting since I was a little girl. You easily taught me a knew way. I love your scared story. Yours is the best tutorial by far! Thank you so much. Its perfect!
Hello Operah.. am a sr citizen n started crochet during covid tym... i can make a flat circle but after 5th or 6th row it becomes curvey.. not flat any more... can i get an advice pls
Thanks for your great tip. What a great way to remember the increase number by aligning it with the row number.
I was looking for this tutorial for long time becouse i dont know to do or when to use an increase
So glad it's been helpful to you PrinceMK, thank you, Anja x
You “scared” technic is BRILLIANT!!! There is no way to miss on this one!!! Thank you sooooo much for your time and talent!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching Yinet Monge ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
Ophelia Talks my pleasure! Take care ♥️
Im sorry but how about to end/close the stich, i mean the ending ??
I use the invisible method, you finish your last stitch, pull the thread through, then using your sewing needle put thread through the next stitch and back into the last stitch, fasten off as usual, Anja x
"3 is scared" - love it, great tutorial!
Thanks so much!
Im actually working with a youtube tutorial to crochet a toilet paper cover as a pumpkin and I sadly couldnt find yarn of the same size and the circle turns out a lot smaller, so i hope i could mash those two tutorials (including yours) to make the circle big enough. Yours is also a lot easier!
This literally saved my live😭 thank you so much!
I'm so glad Fatin, you're welcome. Anja x!
Oh...I thought this was about having a circle that didnt have a visible seam. My mistake 😂
Thank you! I’ve made a beautiful , flat circle without an ugly seam for the first time in 15 years crocheting!
That's wonderful!!!❤ Thank you for watching Tammy Burkey ! Anja xxx 💕🌈
I am a beginner and l was watching several videos to get a flat circle and nothing worked for me. Your explanation is very clear.
