What to do if your coaster curls up like a little dome! - TOP TIPS
1. Firstly do not be concerned, this is totally normal and lots of factor can attribute for this including:
a. The weight of yarn and hook size
b. Your crocheting tension at the beginning rows and subsequent rows being slightly different
c. The material yarn is made from i.e. acrylic, wool, bamboo, cotton.
2. It's also worth noting that 9 out of 10 times all crochet is a little misshapen when you first create it.
3. That where the BLOCK comes in!
4. Lay your crochet items onto a flattened towel, and spray lightly with some water [DO NOT IRON] once you have dampened the crochet lay another towel or cloth over the top, and place something heavy with a flat side on top, usually a few heavy books does the job, you don't need to press the items, simply put enough weight to keep the coaster flat.
5. Leave overnight to dry, and voila, your coaster should now be flat and ready for use.

So to keep going, after single DC single DC double DC, would I then do three single DC then a double DC, or one single then two doubles? I hope that made sense!
Following, I had the same question! Did you find an answer?
Update, I believe I figured it out, it should be a single DC for the next 3 stitches then (the 4th stitch) two DC. Hope that made sense :)
For every new round you would increase the number of single DC between the increase which is 2 DC into the same stitch.

I have a feeling a lot of people are going to get homemade gifts this year or at least stocking stuffers. Thank you for written instructions that is very much appreciated.
Thank you, that’s great to hear. They’re super addictive, my house is running out of room for coasters 😂😂😂
Can we just appreciate the fast that she doesn’t cut or speed it up?
Thank you, I actually started these videos for that exact reason. I wanted to teach crochet as if we were sat together with a nice cup of tea, taking our time ☺️
And the proof is here
😊
Omg yess this is the best vid I have seen so far
Oh my goodness yes! As a new crochet-er I love that she takes her time and talks through everything. 😊
this is an amazing tutorial!! your magic ring one was also very helpful! i appreciate how you explain the math aspect and that you don’t speed through the stitches. i’ll definitely watch more of your posts!
Thank you, I’m glad you found it helpful :)
Love her accent and she makes every video like you’re sitting down with an old friend. And she’s easy to follow!!! 👍🏾
Thank you 🙏
Yes, very easy to understand great explanations!
Wonderful video. The up close view of your work was excellent to watch for learning. I've been crocheting since I was 12 years old (my grandmother taught me the basics) and am 74 now and enjoyed watching your work take shape. Thank you.
That’s wonderful to hear, thank you for your lovely comment :)
I’ve been trying to learn crochet as a new hobby for the past few weeks. This is definitely the best video I have come across in that time. Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you for not speeding up past the “basics”.
My confidence with crochet grew so much after this tutorial!
hello. i too started several weeks ago. this seems hard for me to do when it looks so easy. ha i can't get it as right as it should be.
Thank you. It’s comments like these that fuel my love for sharing crochet 🧶
OMG I WAS CRYING 😭, bec ever single crochet video I went on was soo HARD .. UNTIL i found out ur channel , it’s soo easy to watch and understanding and by using ur technique my crochet work turns out soo good .. THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤❤
I spent an hour trying to understand other videos teaching me how to make this and I kept getting to steps that made no sense- until this one. I made my circle in a few hours and was able to understand everything after a few watches. THANK YOU! You're the only video I watched that took it slow enough and made it clear enough for me someone who has never crochet before to make this! So thank you very much for this!!!
That’s awesome to hear. Circular crochet can be really challenging at the beginning of your crochet journey: I remember being so frustrated and making things that looked like little egg cups! I always keep my own learning in mind and aim to make videos that have everything little detail that will help. I’m so glad you found this useful x
I'm a totally beginner and I'm so happy I'm able to finish my first crochet project! Thanks a bunch! Watching your video and completing this circle coaster has definitely boosted my confidence.
Awesome. I'm so pleased :-)
I love how you chatted with me as if we were just enjoying our afternoon with tea and our own little projects together😊 I loved being invited into your day, you are a lovely soul! Can't wait to learn new things from you♡
Thank you so much, we love having you join us too :-) Love from myself and the furbabies :-)
Thank you SO much for this!! I’ve tried making circles in the past and could never do it until now! Your a great teacher and I love how you just talk about life and what’s been happening while you crochet! It makes the experience even more enjoyable🥰 I’m definitely subscribing ❤️
Thank you, I'm so pleased you liked the video and found it helpful :-)
I did my first ever crochet piece with your video. Had to fix it twice because I got my double crochet wrong, but it turned out perfect in the end. Thanks so much for this tutorial!!! I enjoyed listening to your random talks too ☺
Thank you so much, that really means a lot! I’m glad to help you on your crochet 🧶 journey! It’s so addictive once you start!
I certainly made something of a circular shape haha! I will Get there with practice. Thank you so much for this video and for going through it at such a lovely pace. Your voice was so cheerful too!
It's always great when it turns out looking like it should. I've spent many years squishing the odd extra stitch in just to make it feel a bit more in shape. I think that's the beauty of crochet over knitting, you can always hides a rogue freeform bit and no-one will ever know! #NoRulesCrochet is definitely one of my many crafting mantras hehe!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I had also checked out how to make a magic circle and your tutorial was the only one I understood lol I’ve made 3 of these gorgeous coasters now 😊 thanks again!
Thank you, that’s great to hear. Feel free to tag me in your pics on Insta and I’ll be sure to share :)
I just want to say thank you. I watched other videos on how to croche the magic ring, but when watching yours, it finally made sense. I really appriciate the no rule croche. 🙌
Amazing, it truly is a magically technique, and yay to no rules crochet hehe! ☺️
This was amazing! My mom wanted to make one ever since I got into cricketing, and this was so helpful!! It was great to see her smile 😊 (And it was because fo you!!) Edit: Sorry for the typos!!
Thank you, what a wonderful comment! You are the reason I make these videos ☺️
I love this tutorial so much!!!! I made a coaster in just over an hour. I added a little border from a tutorial I found by acreativebeing, and I can't wait to use it for my cup of coffee in the morning! -- I also LOVED the cat commentary, I went and looked at your Insta just to see Kitty up close! :D -- oh, and thank you for explaining the "why" of the increases -- I've been knitting for ages, so it's much more intuitive to me how knit stitches work, but I'm still learning in crochet!
Thank you for your lovely comment! That’s so sweet of you to look up the kitties. You can follow them @poppet.moomin on insta
i’ve struggled w flat circles in other videos and found this and what a life saver! this was so clear and so well explained i finally got it! thank you so much for the tutorial!!
Thank you. I’m so glad you found it helpful :)
Let's just appreciate the fact that she replies to every comment ✨💕
Thank you 🙏 🤗

I started trying to teach myself how to crochet and not even a week later i made a thing I'm actually happy with!
That’s awesome! 🙌
I’m a beginner and found this so helpful and easy to follow! Really excited to try more of your tutorials! 💛
That’s great, I look forward to seeing your creations. You can tag me on Insta @crochetandtea ☺️
This was brilliant. I've been so put off on crochet thanks to my self-criticism and short attention span, but this quick and well instructed project helped me actually complete work I'm somewhat proud of. Thank you very much! ❤️
I'm so pleased it helped, I bet it felt amazing to have created something :-)
My first crochet project was an oversized cowl and I only just finished it after 60 something hours. I had left over yarn, and this video popped up on my feed and good lord am I pleased that it did! Under 30 minutes and I had a little coaster done. This was very gratifying. Thank you 🙏😊 Loved the chat about cat 🥰
Thank you, so lovely to hear that :-)
Her voice is so calming 🥰 my favorite crochet RUclipsr cause she actually shows you how to do things
Thank you, that’s so lovely to hear, you’re very kind 🥰
this was so lovely! i just started crocheting today and now i have my own little coaster!
That's great, so glad you liked the video :-)
THANK YOU SO MUCH ... I have finally found thru you how to easily do the magic circle AND 10-20-30 rows plus ... to then start my own mish mash of stitches for HATS. I was having great difficulty just getting the crown started after a few years away from crochet. Having done 700+ to donate I needed a break, and just recently am starting up again. God bless. I'll be checking out some of your other stitches soon. Health and Happiness in this New Year of 2024!!
This was my first ever crochet project and it turned out way better than I expected!! Thank you so much - your the most helpful channel I've found!
That’s awesome to hear. I’m so pleased you found it helpful ☺️
Had to subscribe in the middle of crocheting! I do agree about the polished video what-nots and you got me there-your authenticity. This may sound weird as a teenager but this has been the warmest and comfiest I’ve ever felt while following a crochet tutorial! I also love how we could just sit down and it’s as if we’re actually chatting. There’s no background music as well which tends to give me pressure more than relaxation so the rambles are a blessing to me, actually. Thank you ever so much, too! You’re amazing, you know that?
That’s hand down the most awesome comment I’ve had on this video! I love that, chatting and crocheting along together 🤗 thank you so much xoxo
omg!! i just discovered your channel and i love it so much. your talking and stuff is so relaxing i feel like i’m crocheting with a friend 😭 in these lonely times that means so much to me. PLS KEEP POSTING VIDEOS! i’ll support as much as i can ❤️ have a great week from texas!
That’s so amazing to hear thank you. I’m looking at doing some different style ones where I talk through my current projects, sort of a cup of tea and chit chat style one! Definitely the sort of thing you could crochet along to!
❤ this is one of the most safe pattern I’ve used for a circle. It’s fail safe and it gives an end result of a very stable, even circle. The trick with the double crochet at beginning (or end of the row) is brilliant. Thank you from Scotland ❤
Thanks :-)
I haven’t done crochet in years, but you were so clear about each step that I had no problem picking it up again to make one of these coasters. Thank you so much for creating this great tutorial! :-)
Thank you, so glad I could help ;-)
I loved this tutorial! I only started crochet recently, and this was the first time I understood the magic circle or double crochet. Thank you so much!
That's amazing, so pleased I could help :-)
thank you so much and I love how you make me feel like i’m crocheting with a friend (:
How lovely, I feel like I’m crocheted with others too when I make the videos 🥰
Thank you so much for this! I've been knitting but just started to try crochet, I've watched this so many times to practice my flat circles :)
Thank you, glad you found it useful :-)
I just want to say a big thank you for teaching me how to crochet! Im left-handed so my mother/teachers always said it was impossible for them to even try, but your videos made it easy for me to finally learn
That’s wonderful to hear! Welcome to the beginning of your crochet adventure! 🥰
I really enjoyed this video and I’ve just browsed your page a little and found a ton of projects I’d like to try some day! Thank you for sharing 💗 my cats attack my yarn as well it does provide a little extra challenge :)
Yay to another cat mamma! 🙌 great to hear you’ve found plenty of projects. I’ve got so many planned out ready to record, just looking at of my autumnal themed stuff ☺️
thanks, this was a great tutorial. now i have a coaster for my sewing desk!😌
Oh lovely, what colour did you make it in?
Crochet and Tea multicolour yarn- pink, purple and cream! 😊☕️
Thank you so much! This is the first time I've managed to actually complete a crochet project, albeit small! Your video is so clear and easy to follow (and I love the casual vibe too). I can't wait to watch more of your videos!
I am very proud of my little tea coaster!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I started crochet a little over one month ago and I've been wanting to do this tutorial ever since then, but I was having trouble with the magic circle for a while. Today, I finally was able to crochet this coaster and it looks perfect! I look forward to trying your other coaster tutorials!!!
That's awesome, so pleased :-)
Im fairly new but I always have issues with gaps and this tutorial really helped!
Thank you I’m glad you found it useful
Hi! It's me again! I'd really love to show what I made by learning how to make a perfect flat circle but I can't figure out how to send you a picture lol. Anyway, I'm very much into vintage hot pads and I'm redoing my dining room in a country theme. All of my crocheted items that I've hung on my wall are little dresses. But with your help, I crocheted a perfectly flat, round clock! Thank you so much!!!
That’s awesome to hear, vintage hot pad are so fabulous aren’t they, I’d love to see your designs. You can reach me on Instagram @crochetandtea or email at crochetandtea@outlook.com
Finally made a set FLAT circular coasters!
I tried it with scrap stash, and i am sooo happy with the output! Thanks a ton!
Amazing!
The way you explained the circle increase as a pie helped me so much. I do great with symbolism so I’ll definitely be able to visualize that for the coasters I’m making!
followed this to complete my first ever crocheting project using a magic circle! 🤯 i'm still learning so it's not very pretty, but it's fine for my desk 😂 i feel a lot more confident in crocheting after this, so thank you for the great tutorial 😊
That’s amazing to hear! I hope you continue your crochet journey ☺️
This helped alot since I'm a beginner. It took a lot of tries to get the final product and it was worth it, thank you!!
That’s great to hear, I bet it looks great!
im a beginner crocheter and this is the first video that actually helped me complete a project (that looks good too)! thank you for helping me learn, i feel more confident now!!
That's awesome, great job! :-)
Excellent video! I’ve never crocheted before and I was able to make the coaster without difficulty after watching your instructions. I’m now watching your beginner series and learning the basics.
That’s amazing, thank you for your lovely comment, so pleased to help you on your crochet journey 🥰
Oh my! I really want to try this, just learned how to do Double Crochet and the Waffle Stitch, so I think coasters are my new project 😄
Amazing, so great to hear. I’m busy making lots to post for Christmas 🎄 gifts!
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm a new beginner and have gone through so many tutorials on youtube (and have said WTF so many times not understanding what I'm supposed to do), this video and the short one demonstrating how to do a magic ring make the most sense, and I'm actually able to crochet a coaster in just one try!!!
That's awesome, so pleased I was able to help :-)
i love how u actually teach what each stitch does and why we do it instead of just showing us how to make the product. this helps so much in my knowledge in crochet! thank u
Thanks, I’m so pleased you found it helpful ☺️
I’ve made about 10 of these 😅 so glad I found your page. Homemade gifts this year and making some for my plants!
Wowsa, 10, that’s awesome! 🥳
I love how you started the magic circle it was so much easier than ways that I’ve seen! I’ve been struggling and this helped a lot!
Thanks, I struggled so much when I first started it. Once you're fingers get comfortable with it the muscle memory will kick in :-)
I have always failed to make a perfect circle or even make a magic ring. I went through so many videos and nothing helped. Your video is such a delight. It is very easy to follow and I just did my first perfect circle. Thank you so much ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
That’s awesome to hear, I’m so pleased, I bet it looks great! :)
Amazing tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to teach so many people how to crochet a coaster. I'm a beginner and found this tutorial easy to follow.
You are so welcome!
I love how your videos are so clear and easy for begginers like me 💗 i tried to make this coaster and it turned out very good from the first try , thank you
Amazing, so glad you were able to create something beautiful and useful :)
Thank you so much for your video! Your technique is flawless! 🌺
Thank you 🙏 I’m glad you liked it

Crochet man, thank you, couldn't hear her so closed captioning and impossible to read at 1.5 speed. You saved the day or at least 20min. of one.
Problem with thumbs up, YT saves it automatically. Not all videos I like do I want to save which makes the list too long to find anything.
Gracias
just got into crotchet and this video was very useful, im loving your rambles and how easy to follow you make it! keep up the good work
Thank you :-)
i just made my very first crochet piece in a span of 20 minutes omgg thankyou for this!! 💗 i also love how this is a follow along video with small talks about cats etc.
I'm so pleased you found it helpful, that's so lovely to hear :-)
Kids are my biggest distraction, followed by husband & the dog comes in last - being the best behaved. 😂
😂
After finishing the second ring, it started to curl up,I’m not sure what I did wrong 😅 but this is a great tutorial
Same. It might be the yarn we are using or we are pulling/holding the yarn too tightly
@@blueismylove3128 mine does too! It goes like a little hat I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong x
@@caitlinstephenson3205 I've restarted so many times and what I've done is add more than she says to before closing the gap and that's worked for me.
It happens to me to but wat I did was not tighten the yarn to tight and I made sure to not skip any stitches by accident
Mine does that sometimes if my stitches are a little tight, try sizing up your hook.
thank you so much for making this! i’ve watched like 10 different videos showing how to just make a circle, and none of them were clear at all. but i actually was able to follow and understand this one!
Yay, that’s awesome 👏
Hi there! After not understanding many different tutorials on this very same project- I got it the first time after watching yours. I am very pleased with how it came out, and I want to thankyou for this very helpful video.
I noticed your last upload was 11 months ago, and I'm sad to see that! Your videos are great!
So pleased it helped, sorry about the crochet hiatus, I am hoping to have more time to crochet and create videos soon :-)
Hi! Thank you so much for this video. When I make a round, the gaps have always made me crazy! Now I am wondering if you have ever made a round and then turned it into a square? I'm sure that I'm not saying it right. But it would be to make several squares to make an afgan.
Tresa Matheny yes you can indeed create a ‘granny square’ with a circle in the centre. I’lol look at popping a video tutorial up for that soon if you would like ☺️
@@CrochetandTea Yes ma'am! I would love to see your tutorial on that 🙂 Thanks so much! Have a great day!
Thank you for this! I haven't been able to crochet in a long while between finishing college and then my job getting very chaotic. Today I decided I wanted to use up some blanket yarn scraps to make a bed for my cat, but couldn't remember the pattern for a circle. I really appreciate this video! 💜
Sounds like you've had a lot on your plate. I'm so pleased to be able to help you get back into it. Also let's talk about this cat bed!!!! Do you have pictures? :-)
I loved this tutorial so much! I’m deffo gonna use it , your also so kind and caring x
Thank you, that is so lovely of you :-)
Why is mine not flat 😭
ruclips.net/video/CZGlpY4sQXc/видео.htmlsi=oodfnr1eQR6W021x
Probably because you have to do 2 chain stitches out before every layer
(This happened to me too when it started to look like a bowl)
same here,mine too
Maybe because you skipped a stitch(s) or just add another row(that worked for me
She gives a tip in the description.
My cat is happily chewing and tangling himself in my yarn while I am making a bowl instead of a circle haha.
They do love to be part of the action, bless him! He thinks he’s helping haha!
I watched so many videos trying to learn, but this was the easiest to understand and follow so far. And she shows how to finish it. Thank you, my work look just like yours.
That’s amazing, so glad you were able to make something wonderful x
Thank you for the pie piece analogy!!!! I had never heard that before, and now I don't have to wonder if I'm adding the correct amount of stitches in each round!
Thanks, so pleased you liked it. Visualising the stitches in this way is also a nice intro into grid patterns :)
Good instruction but I could barely hear you with my sound up on 100%.
Hi, I’m sorry that you had challenges with the audio. I’ve not had any feedback on this to date, may I suggest checking you have the volume on both the RUclips app and your device. I know before I’ve had the same issue and it turned out my volume on RUclips needed turning up.
@@CrochetandTea Hi just wanted to feedback that I've had the same issue with audio - both RUclips and PC audio turned all the way up and the audio was extremely quiet, maybe a problem on RUclips's side if it sounds OK to you?
I made my first coaster by watching this video. Thank you very much and you tutorial is highly appreciated. Sending love and warm hugs! ❤️❤️❤️
That’s amazing, hugs 🤗 to you :)
Thank you!!❤ I just made my first coaster. The magic circle was a challenge but I finally got it 5 times later and the end product was good. I want to make one with two colors next.
Amazing, great job on persevering with the magic circle. I remember it being super tricky my first time :-)
Thank you for this video ❤️ between the yarn you used and the explaining it and not fast forwarding through out the video I have to say this is the first video out of 6 different ones that I’ve watched that actually taught me how to do a circle ❤️ I could not for the life of me figure out where to put my hood through when crocheting a circle
That's amazing, I'm so pleased it helped :-)
Thank you so much for filming this vid I love how you did not speed it up and yu talking about things while you did it brought me comfort ^^
(P.S I know you probs wont see this comment because it was filmed 4 yrs ago but still thought id share this with you)
Made a couple of coasters in Jute fibre yarn for my son a while ago. He asked for some more and as I'm not an experienced crocheter I needed instructions again and happened to find this one. Your tutorial is very clear and easy-to-follow. Thank you for sharing 🤗🌻🦋
That’s wonderful to hear. Many thanks 🙏
My first crochet project! I'm so happy with it :) I used two strands of different colors and it turned out so pretty! Thank you so much!
That sounds lovely :-)
You just made my crocheting stitches a billion times better thanks for the amazing work you did for us 😃
That ace, thank you x
Thanks to your videos I've been able to pick up a hook again after many years. The magic circle is extremely tricky and took me a couple of hours practising to get the hang of it and complete a coaster. It will be the first of many I think.
So pleased you persevered with the magic circle, it's such a game changer once you've mastered it :-)
Can I just say that not only did you teach me how to make amazing coasters, you also taught me how to make a magic circle for the first time. I give you a round of applause for that 👏👏👏
Wow, thanks!
Thank you for showing me how to crochet! You make very clear instructions and easy to follow! ❣️
You’re welcome 😊 I'm so pleased that you liked it :-)
This was so incredibly helpful for me as a beginner! And I love your positivity!!! Thank you!
Thank you, that’s so lovely to hear 🥰
this was my first crochet tutorial and is also probably the best tutorial i’ve ever used. so clear and concise. i appreciate you so much
That’s so fantastic to hear. Glad it was helpful :)
Just found this and it was really easy, had to put you on -0.5 speed bc it was a bit quick as i've never done that before but your instructions were so easy to follow and the explanation with the pizza helped me understand really quickly and i will most likely never forget it which will help me replicate the results in future 😊 Thank you so much!
So pleased you liked it, I find using visual learning methods for crochet is really beneficial. I still imagine my pizza or pie slices to date!
I am a beginner at crocheting and started 2 days ago. She is an Excellent teacher!! Love love how she explains everything so slowly, patiently, steadily, and methodically. Her teaching style is perfect. I subscribed immediately. Thank you so much! I’ll be binging your videos! So excited to start filling my home with beautiful crochet creations! 💕💕💕
Well to the world of happy hooking! Thank you so much for your kind words, they really do mean so much. I look forward to seeing your creations 🥰
Thank you so much for explaining how to do circular increases very clearly! I'm planning to make a larger circle for a pillbox hat.
Thanks, so glad you liked it :)
Love this video of yours! I love learning your trick of skipping the chains. And also the pie - never heard that before. Thanks so much!
Thanks, it’s all good but then makes you want to eat pie lol! X
Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial! Also, the explanation of why you don't count the turning chain, etc is extremely helpful to a newbie like me and much appreciated! 😊
Often when you count the turning chain you end up with gaps in places you don't want. You'll find many patterns that do not count the turning chain. :-)
You explained it perfectly, thank you so much for this tutorial!!
Thank you, I’m so pleased you liked it :)
Great video and the instructions were so easy to follow! I have never done crochet before and still managed to make a very decent one the first time I tried! (I have been knitted for a bit - although still a beginner - but that probably helped maybe?) Thank you so much!
Thanks, what a love message, so glad to have helped you :)
I am so stoked. I just crocheted my very first coaster. As an absolute beginner, your easy and clear instructions helped a lot. Thank you so much! ❤️ P/s: I also enjoyed your ramblings. Feels like you are right next to me, having tea and crocheting together 😄
Thanks that’s so great to hear. Thank you for your lovely comment xoxo
I’m very very new to crochet and yours has been the first video I can follow along. My tension and stitches need a lot of work but I don’t feel like giving up. Thank you.
That’s awesome! So pleased to hear the video helped :)
As a beginner I really appreciate this! You made this so easy I already made three! ☺️❤️
That’s wonderful to hear, thank you 😊
Hello, Miss Chrissy.
I just wanted to thank you for being so calm and patient. I finally was able to do the magic ring, and I am now doing a project for a friend's baby's baptism, and I wanted to do an elephant rug, but none of the other people were able to explain as thoroughly as you.
I automatically subscribed to you, and I am looking forward to seeing and doing more projects based on your videos.
Thank you once again!
So pleased I was able to help, and awesome job on conquering the illusive magic ring, yay! :-)
After years of trying and giving up this was the video that finally taught me how to double crochet. Thank you so much!
That's fantastic, so pleased I was able to help :-)
I just made my first round beautiful pink coaster. Thank you so much!!
Yay that’s awesome 👏
Thank you very much for teaching me about NOT counting chain stitches...I'm new to crochet and every bit of knowledge adds to enjoyment ...thank you
Thank you, so pleased you found this useful xoxo
so glad i came across this video!! always struggled with gaps when working in rounds and was always tempted to add in another stitch 😂 finally someone who does "no rule crochet" HAHA. super helpful and clear tutorial, bless you for making this video ❤️ subscribed!
Love love love 💕 no rules crochet #yarnpunk thank you 🙏
