    Thank you so much for your helpful hints! I thought my heating element went out but wanted to trouble shoot first. I cleaned hose and vents and still no heat. Then I saw your video so I checked breaker! Viola! I never would have known it could half trip (and you really could not tell) and not send enough amps to dryer. Thank you again! Saved me lots of time and money!

    Thank you very much! My timer had two burnt contacts, but they weren’t too bad. I cleaned them up with very fine sandpaper and my dryer is working again. I don’t think I would have figured that out without your video.

      Follow-up:@@WasherDryerMoney I pulled the front panel off, thanks to your instructions. I am ashamed to admit it, but the entire channel was clogged/caked with a mass of lint build-up over - what? - 9, 10 years? Cleaned everything and works perfectly. So, thank you again and very much! Actually drys clothes.

    Thank you so much for your comment about 120v being able to make the motor go but not the elements. It helped me figure out that one leg of my circuit breaker had gone bad and the dryer was only getting 120v. The drum would spin but no heat even though the element and thermal fuse etc. all checked fine.

    Great video. Mine was a little different. The top had 4 additional screws to remove it. 2 small socket screws on the timer panel, that opens and 2 Philips screws and the whole thing loosens up.
    My issue ended up being the heating element wire broke off. Removed the large barrel and bottom right of heating element is purple wire that looked burned. I've seen others with the same issue on this model and sounds like it is from moisture?
    Picking up a new quick terminal clip and about to strip the wire back to make a new connection. I feel like this will resolve it as it's been running great other than this randomly the other day, less than 2 years old.

  • @clpalmer60

    After our tenant's dryer had no heat (but everything else was working), I took your advice to check the voltage at the outlet, so I unplugged the dryer and got 120 volts at each terminal to ground, so that was fine. But when I plugged the dryer back in to continue testing, the heat worked! So despite the large metal contacts with the 240V connector, the only thing I can think is that one of the 3 connections was broken. Just a heads up that the issue could be as simple as that!

    Thanks so much. I've seen your other step by step and all are very thorough. My GE GTX18ESSJ0WW dryer has me stumped though. It has full heat but shuts off mid cycle and when cool will start and finish cycle. I've completely cleaned out the lint pipes and fan, and control timer contacts are all clean. Could the Cycling Thermostat be the fault for stopping mid cycle? Thanks again.

    Thanks for the video. I've worked on dryers previously but needed a refresher. I've replaced thermal cutoff, high heat thermostat, cycling thermostat, thermal fuse and heating element. I've had my ducts professionally cleaned from the dryer to the exit of the house. It ran great for a load but now it will run but won't heat. I'm about to burn it in my backyard. Dryers aren't that hard yet I'm defeated.

    This is where the 1 gallon vac comes in handy. Use it and one of the long Whirlpool refrigerator brushes to clean that filter area. Just say no to compressed air dust storms. ;)

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  7 лет назад

      Lol yeah it would be a lot cleaner if I just use my Shop-Vac. My shop is an open garage so I usually just walk them out the door and blow them out. I've actually been thinking lately about making a ceiling mount and putting a longer hose on my Shop-Vac so it be a little more convenient. I feel like I'm over using my air compressor because it's on a automatic reel and I can just reach up and grab it. I don't do service calls unless I sold them the washer and dryer and it's still under my warranty. Most everything I do is in my shop so I just need to take time and get more organized.

      I did 95% of my work in the customer's home. So compressed air is a serious mess maker. I liked to think I left their home slightly cleaner after I repaired their appliance.

    Ran into this situation on a newer GE at work the other day. After I took everything apart and removed the drum I discovered it was the purple wire going to the heat element burned off the connector. Luckily there was enough slack in the wire to cut back and replace connector. My question is on wire extending and splicing if you don't have enough Slack. What considerations do I need to consider when getting replacement wire? I would imagine gauge, voltage ,and Heat resistance specs match? I saw some on Amazon that might work but it is silicone insulated? Also what type of splices would you recommend when extending the wire? Thanks in advance for your help and great videos!

    if one phase wire alone is connected to a device or appliance current wouldn’t pass you either need a neutral or another phase wire to complete the circuit and make it back to the transformer

      I made that from a heavy duty extension cord I bought from Lowe’s. It was very expensive because of the gauge of the wire. It’s nice for my shop because I was able to run the plug anywhere in my shop.

      If it’s not staying on it maybe there’s some tropical switch in the motor has gone bad. Usually this means you have to replace the motor. I’ve seen this in world Paul but I have not seen it in GE so I’m not 100% on this answer.

    Hello. Question: I've had this gas GE dryer for many years, a few weeks ago the timer dial broke so I started using a pair of plyers to turn the timer to start, no problem. The wife did it for the first time day before yesterday, pushed on the shaft to hard, the timer popped out of its holding place and arced, now the dryer is not starting. I tried to get the wiring schematics or the service manual from GE, they do not have it nor know where to go get it. A few months ago I replaced the belt, no problem. I have not found a dialer knob to fit the shaft, I doubt there is a timer replacement here in Costa Rica. Any advise where to first check?

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  4 года назад

      Your best bet might be eBay. There’s not a lot of different timers for GE ‘s. I would look for one that already has a knob included with the same Part number on the timer.

    There's no such thing as a half tripped circuit breaker. Either it's tripped or not. They only have three positions on, off, tripped.

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  3 года назад +1

      I’ve seen it more than once. The breaker will look slightly crooked instead of tripped and one leg will be on the other leg will be off. When I turn the breaker on and off both legs will go back on. I always suggest to the customer they get electrician to swap out the breaker.
