Dang, cutie! Where ya been my whole life! Gorgeous and can build an engine! Rare gem! Lol. Great method. Used it myself on my stroker SBF. And I love my Renegade 185s! Makes her SING!
at 4:15 when you were torqueing the bolts, the valve was getting pushed down. I did this method and my valves hit my pistons. You really should only tighten the rocker arm bolt down to 0 lash when using checker springs.
Yeah Wow....I'm doing an Home Port/Polish with 241 Cylinder heads, as the LS1 has the old school 853 Heads....Will send off to get the faces machined and got a good Cam etc going in ....Was thinking of AFR last night....Sooo many good Machining shops out there...Want to go as quick as possible in Street trim before stroking the bottom end...Can't wait to see more of your vids...many thanks...Kym. 🙂
Well done Alex, AFR certainly chose the perfect rep. Anyone who's seen your channel knows you have the creds. P.S. Wave your hands around as much as you like, Mike Eagle is just jealous.
well we forgot about squish. had a engine thats in my sons car. didnt have enough clearance between head and pistons. to correct it we had to run a .061 thick mls gasket to achieve .038. then on to the valve clearance. fly cut on the pistons to achieve .080 on the intake and .110 on the exhaust.
Yes! If you don’t have enough clearance. When the engine is spinning at high speed your valve me hit the top of the piston. This will most definitely ruin your engine performance🙁🙁
I noticed some of my lifters I can't push the plunger in. Should I use those lifters during this method? Would normally the plunger go in and not push the valve as far?
If the testing springs you are using are light enough it shouldn't be an issue. However if you want to remove all doubt, use a solid lifter to check the PtoV.
@@afr-airflowresearch9889 not exactly they are the high silcon content cast items I designed it to make maximum power at just 6200 rpm about 420 hp 302 CID
Good video, plus you're easy on the eyes, but the clay method isn't very accurate in addition to not knowing where the closest point was in relation to where the piston is. Piston to valve clearance should be checked during cam degreeing and checking proper push rod length while the degree wheel in still on the crank along with the test springs and dial indicator. There is also a way to use the actual valve springs to see how deflection affects the clearances.
Great point and when dealing with race applications this is the preferred way. However, not a lot of folks that are installing heads on a street car have these tools. If they do, they most likely already know how to check all the necessary clearances.
Hey Pipe, it's not about popularity for us. We have supported her race program since she was 16 and competed in Hot Rod's Drag week for the first time. A lot of folks say that young people are not into cars and we feel that is completely untrue.
Question is do you actually know what your doing or is it scripted?? If you do know then I applaud your skill .. if your a hired marketing ploy then no respect ✊ given here :)
lol she was put in inpound on drag week when was 17 or 18 to prove she can work on her own cars. her channel is awesome. was given her camaro on terms she had to work on it too
I ran out and grabbed a case of bottled water for the comments section
im rebuilding a single cylinder motorbike with a couple of non-standard parts, this video included some points I hadnt considered. Cheers!
This is only one of the many piston to valve checks you should be doing. Great video Alex.
Cheerz!
Ive dealt with AFR on a set of heads ! hands down the best costumer service ive ever had the pleasure to work with .
Thank you for the kind words!

Hey Alex, I love your and your dad's recent videos of your Chevy at the track. I haven't raced for years but I loved your launches.

Excellent work Alex.
Great job Alex, very professional. You are a great speaker, very polished and believable.
Really good video, Alex! I'm just about to build a stroker engine for my BMW E30 and will be doing this check soon.
Essentially what I did with my brand new AFR Renegade SBF heads.good job.very important

nice work Alex thanks for this very informative video
I’m laughing that I got this video recommended the day after I watched a Vice Grip Garage video where he had a valve hit a piston. 😂
Lol. Yeah but that was due to over-rev. No valve clearance in the world can save you from that.
Well done Alex, AFR certainly chose the perfect rep. Anyone who's seen your channel knows you have the creds. P.S. Wave your hands around as much as you like, Mike Eagle is just jealous.
Do you have a video on setting up the timing ?
Do you do more videos this one was awesome 😘
Hey Brad, what types of videos would you like to see from us?
How ya gonna get that clay out of the rings?
I did this on my sbf build but without the head gasket
Thanks for the video it really helped.
How to set up overlap? Do this 8 key way on sprocket?
If you have safe clear. So 8 key way on 4° advance ? Overlap?

That head game is 👌

Just curious, why are the test springs needed? Why not leave the standard valve springs in for the test?
Standard spring will collapse the hydraulic lifter and give you a bogus measurement.
Good job. Need to replace hydraulic lifters with solids for test then replace after clearance verified
Excellent
Piston to jam socket??
Nice job
I'm a Mustang guy at heart but how long, since I watched this sweet talk video... :D
Well… I’m in love now…😮

Piston to head clear was...a quence area is also important , to much and ping to little and it does not burn.
Thank you RUclips Algorithm
Piston to valve clearance?? Who needs that, Make them kiss
So... on the more is better. Not true on n.a. it will make more then piston to valve gets tighter. On turbo stuff it doesn't matter as much.
I will admit Alex has manlier hands than some men. ✌️
She is 1 of the best looking lady's I've ever seen!! And she loves cars she's 1 in a billion!!!
I thought that was Alex on the thumbnail so I clicked
Looks like Yoda at 5:09.
Shorts to show off those wheels be easy views
Had to get my pistons flycut on my Windsor
Factory pistons?

Quiet Gruber. Clay method works great if properly done. If using hydraulic lifters replace for test with solid.
Even if she didnt know wtf she is doing, I'd still be very willing to show her, uh, a tip or two😂😂😂
It’s a great video but I have to add that Alex looks fantastic in those jeans. What a body. Wish she was working in my garage 😬😬😬

Yer pretty!
💯💢💛💚💥💥
Im in love! 😉 whoever is dating her is one lucky guy!
She is a single Pringle and likes it that way, at least that's what she's been telling me for the last couple years!
You don't even need to check piston to valve clearance on an LS. Just reinstall the zip ties and go.
God I love her
And no I'm not dead of course your blocked ...
You would think they would hire a more popular youtuber
