- Folks, this is the 2nd video in a series of 4. First video was an overview of the entire amp, covering both front & back, with a sound sample from each channel. This video focuses exclusively on Channel 1. Stay tuned for Channel 2 & Channel 3 videos (Video 3 & 4).
As always, thank you for the comments & support.

This is great demo. This pushed me over the edge on deciding to buy one of these that just popped up used locally. I really love the way the drive channels sustain and roll into harmonics on lead playing. And the "thick" setting sounds really great too for mid/low gain settings. Thanks!
I just bought this amp second hand (combo) recently. And trust me, the dials are extremely sensitive to change the sound! Like, changing the treble or the gain by even half a notch, can totally change the whole sound! I love that! Its a very powerful amp to say the least. All these people commenting that the distortion sounds fuzzy, like no shit, if you crank it up all the way, of course its gonna sound fuzzy and shit. You really need to play around with the amp a long time to see what it can actually do. Its a very versatile amp, I am very happy with the purchase!
Dude! Thanks for the comprehensive look at this amp. I have been considering buying one, but surprisingly Carvin's own demos didn't show me what I wanted to see. From your review the V3M sounds as good as it's big brother (V3)! This is the perfect amp for me because of the 7 & 22 watt settings.
Great 'lil amp.
Massive Kudu's to Carvin for selling an amp of this quality/features at this price point !
I really like the Carvin reviews for this and the old x100b. Those really sound nice and tone ful; makes me want to play one.
Thank you for the demo's ... in my opinion you make THE BEST demo's on the tube :) Thanks !!!
Nice tones the end tones really rocked. Nice demo!
The be honest Tone King, you murder this great amp. Stick an EQ in the loop and discover the sweetness.
The 3 channel EQs are passive so they take away, not add, when compared to the older Carvin active EQs, so adding another EQ in the loop warms it no end and cures any fizziness (I use a Zoom G2 with 4 settings of volume, EQ and delay). I hated the amp for 3 days before arriving at this set-up. I also have a Rothwell Love Squeeze and a Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD front end
Has a real boogie vibe. I'm digging it. I've just got a great deal on one used. It's a shame carvin shut up shop.
Thank you very much for the detailed presentation!
What speakers are in the cab you are using and what size is the cab? (4x12, 2x12, etc?)
Channels 1 & 2 are identical. They have 3 different modes and separate EQ's so you can get very different tones out of both channels. EQX merely multiplies the eq x 10.
How did you mic the cab for this video?! The sound is really really great!! I have this amp, a nice guitar and set, but when I mic the cab the sound doen't cames great like this..
Thanks !!!!
So is the overall master volume like an attenuator or is it controlling the output tubes? If it controls the output tubes then what are the channel volumes&drives controlling? Also, seems like the boost is a clean boost to the output tubes and the switches seem more like EQ boosts.
Overall, how does the V3m stack up with the V3? I'm on the fence as to which one to get sense the price point isn't too much different.
Hey Tone King, Cool Demo!!!
A shoot of the V3M, H&K Tubemeister 18, & EVH 5150 micro would be killer!!!
@Phishboy26 Watching videos of this set assured me on a completely different opinion on this amp than the one I had before. Yet, funny thing is, the first opinion was being excited while the second is being in awe. This head should not be approached by the standards that we're used to: They put the "lead" channel not to the far right but on the middle and as a matter of fact, it is built so that you can have 3 clean channels or 3 lead channels if you wish to..
Now can you do a demo of this amp with some effects like chorus or delay? maybe with tc electronics pedals?
I'm looking in to a new amp. This one has got my attention.
I use this channel for metal. Heavy on the bass and treble with the mids cut. Mostly for my 7 string.
@lmsjr Well, you're a genius! Great review anyway. Looks like your playing skills are improving a lot!
This sounds great
I think its nice to have a Master Volume in Amps like these however i think that only 2 channels need drive and the Clean just needs a Volume and EQ
L.E.D. = Light Emitting Diode. Its an acronym for an electronic component, not a word.....
that is a beastly amp
hi ttk i got this amp but it hisses alot ....can it be a grounding issue ...what can i do ?
thank pp
Sorry if I'm tardy to the party. What speakers are in the cab this amp's running through. :o
JUST TO SEE THOSE DIFFERENT AMP HEAD IM ALREADY JEALOUS...
so, how is it that you have all that equipment? Do you operate as a reviewer and get companies to send you stuff to demo or do you buy it all and demo it on your own dime? It is an amazing thing to see all this gears stuffed into this little room, what the......
would this work well for gigging with a 4/12 cabinet
Funny, everyone I have spoken to who has tried this amp themselves claims its sterile and the gains are fizzy. I don't hear it that way when you demo. In fact the only times I've heard it sound fizzy in the RUclips demos I've seen the people have turned the treble up full.
I also wonder if it's the way the speakers they used with the amp were reacting. Pairing an amp with the right speaker can turn a mediocre amp into a tone machine.
Very true and if you go to carvins site you can order it with vintage 30 celestions for an extra $30 when you order the combo amp.
As far as the music I play, I'm all over the map, but I have an amp suited to blues/jazz and classic rock. Everything you've just said about this amp confirms what I suspected. All the reviews that slag this amp just don't know how to use it or are using it with speakers that are less than ideal.
I doubt I'd throw away my distortion pedal as to me, its a different sound, not a less desirable one. I could see myself using it as more of a boost with minimal dirt from the pedal to push the amp harder and get some of the pedal's character in the tone.
The thing a lot of people don't understand about tube amps is that they need a certain amount of volume to hit their sweet spot. A 50 watt amp at bedroom levels is not being pushed enough. A small amp up to 20 watts will sound huge at a more manageable volume because you don't have to shatter windows to hit the sweet spot. The master volume cranked makes perfect sense. Your output tubes are pushed easier that way and if you set the wattage to something reasonable for the room your in, you should be hitting that sweet spot.
I can hear that a little bit with the higher gain settings. gotta keep in mind that most people don't know how to dial in good tones. This amp sounds incredible with high "drive" settings on channel 3 (clean channel) and also on the low and mid settings of the gain channel.
@Ningirsutyr If every channel can be as clean and as dirty as the other im down for a 3 channel amp. Infact i think if every amp made with 3 Channels had that option alot more people would buy them. I have never owned a 3 Channel amp and the reason is because i love my pedals enough that i will use a 2 channel amp with one being just for clean and the 2nd one being set up for overdrive, Both Channels are set in unity 2 my OD pedals so there is no volume boost on the clean or dirty channel.
Im selling mine. Got a Carl Martin Plexi & a Revv G5 so Im gonna go with a more basic amp.
That EQX really gave a BIG bump in the Mids. Nothing subtle about that switch. Ch.1 had a great Crunch to it but the Clean never really got real Clean.
Damn, that amp has 'bowling' balls.
@lmsjr No i failed this time! :D
Has anyone tried to put EL 34 tubes into this amp?
Would need some sort of adapter I think... and of course a re-bias. But I'd be curious too.
Hey Tone King! skip the old paradigm baad bouy horns up shit. I think your creator will allow you to get way better on guitar if you do. You are getting better BTW.! but certainly not on your own.... Key in on Source and you will start to get really good....I promise!
9:00 + sounds like Vintage Queensryche -Queen of the Ryche!
@lmsjr That made me laugh. thanks.
FIRST!!!
...
Wait... Goddamnit!!!!
@joemiracle220 that would be a normal carvin V3
@216trixie I'm a dumass. Clean channel is channel three.
Thats a shame. There is another world out there my friend.
Real nice, but NO clean sound.
