      @@hoborec maybe you could blend the tone of the Peavey cab with the other ones you have. Who knows, you could get a massive killer tone. Like the secret weapon that Glenn Fricker explain on how to get the sound of "In Flames" guitar tone. Who would know that blending a Valvestate with a "class a" tube amp was the key to that kind of sound. Maybe this is the case.

    Good timing as I’ve been going through this over the last week recording demos for a new album. A couple of the amps I have work in standby mode using the line out or fx send so that’s great. The other two I just plug a loose patch cable into the fx return and then use the fx send which works great. These are all combos though not heads so I don’t need a huge speaker sitting there. Another way if you do need to keep a speaker connected is just buy a small 8 inch speaker cab like an orange or Vox one... much easier than lugging a big cab around. I also don’t use software IRs - have a NUX solid studio which works great and I prefer being able to adjust physical knobs. Thanks for the video.

    You can also re-record your guitar track thru a monitor to get the air moving stuff that is missing with this method.
    Just put an sm57 in front of one of your monitors to capture the real physical sound and blend this new track with the other one.It's worth trying it !

  • @ehutch79

    Using the audio from the effects send isn't really going to cut it for a lot of people. The power amp stage is a good portion of an amps character. If you can, try and get a good reactive load box. Like a torpedo captor x or the suhr i.r.. both load ir files straight into the device so you can treat it's output as if you had mic'ed the amp.

    • @hoborec
      @hoborec  4 года назад

      Totally agree! But if you make the cab IR through the amps power stage you get some of that tonal character. But I wouldn’t settle for this in a recording situation. But it’s a cheap diy solution to be able to use your amp at home. A torpedo captor x cost more than I bought this amp and cab for, so the opposite of cheap diy solution.

    • @ehutch79
      @ehutch79 4 года назад

      @@hoborec Yeah, does change the proverbial 'algebra' of the situation. And what you're talking about becomes _very_ valid if that's the situation. All about the tradeoffs anyways.
      Though, as a side not, using the power section of a real amp still isn;'t the same as using a real power section with a reactive load (which is different from older non-reactive ones) A lot of the magic of a cranked marshall is in that power stage with the el34s and the giant chunk if iron they use for the transformer.

  • @marinkovic87
    @marinkovic87 Год назад

    I can only say how I manage to record 100 watt tube amp at apartment...kind of quietly with the use of DI BOX. To me it is cheap and totally workable solution, without too much investment into proper load box (Suhr reactive load, Two Notes etc.)
    From speaker out I insert speaker cable into DI BOX input, and then from DI BOX output just connect speaker cable back to guitar cab (speaker for that matter)....just to have load for your tube amp, nothing more.
    What you get this way, on the other end of DI BOX, is the most important...and that is balanced line level signal through XLR cable going straight to your interface input ready for recording.
    Then you use your favorite IR in your DAW for speaker cab emulation.
    Ok, it is not dead quiet setup...but in order to record good and strong signal, you only have to turn up your amp just a little, because you are getting strong signal from power amp through DI BOX XLR out. Yes, there will be some bedroom level noise, not too much, believe me, but it is no more than talking level noise..nobody is going to knock on your door for that.
    I can say that I recorded that way few times in the early morning...let alone in the middle of the day and in the evening, that shouldn't be a problem.

  • @underpressureman
    @underpressureman 4 года назад +1

    Man I cant believe how close you got to the tone of the full amp/speaker/micc combo! So you were just using the preamp out into the cab sim, no power amp emulation? I like Two Notes Wall Of Sound also because it has an optional Power Amp Section emulation, as well as the cabs! But, ya even without a Power Amp, that sounded great!

      I don't totally get what you mean for re-amping you use a real amp too. Do you mean using an IR? Because re-amped signals shouldn't sound different from a direct recorded signal straight from guitar to amp. Unless the guitarist is playing in the room the amp is in because then the amplifier will start feedback into the guitar a bit and this can sound different.

    • @ehutch79
      @ehutch79 4 года назад

      Re-amping is usually recording the dry guitar signal before hitting the effects and amps, and then sending that back out to an amp (real or otherwise) to be recorded.
