    Don't be mislead by this demo!
    I have owned this amp for about a year. I play blues, rock, and metal.
    I listened to this and was very disappointed with the clean tones I heard, though the distortion demo in this sounds great.
    Here's my anecdote:
    I was looking and playing through Marshalls, EVH, Vox, Fender, you name it and when I stumbled upon one of these amps in the used section of guitar center.
    I figured I may as well try it for myself and within five minutes I had fallen in love.
    People would stop and say how good the tone sounded and immediatley people started to compliment my playing. (Lenny by SRV was the song- talk about a good clean tone ;D )
    I like to say that when I was testing other amps, I was playing songs that made the amp sound good.
    When I played the Carvin V3M it made the songs sound good.
    Immediately put this amp on reserve and it sounds amazing to this day.
    I would highly recommend this amp to anyone who plays anything from blues, rock, alternative, metal. (It could play jazz or country, but you wouldn't need all the fire power for jazz/country in my opinion.)
    This is one dynamic, articulate, and warm amp with a dark side. This amp sustains for days when it warms up and has full tone eq for each channel, with a mid boost and three amp voicing, it has it all.
    For the price and size, this is the best amp to go for, it cuts through the mix and is loud as a mf for 50W at about 6-7 with still plenty of head room.

      Grant Sherrod . I also have this amp and I agree with you. This thing is insane, nice cleans, and the drive stages are great from bluesy to aggressive metal. This amp definitely puts out and competes with amps twice it's price. There is hardly any other amp that can do what this does for it price. A steal of deal on these.

      @c00lkatz 8 лет назад +3

      I like this guy's videos usually, but this video sucked and doesn't even begin to show what the amp can do. The clean tone he set up was abysmal - it does not sound like that at all with proper tweaking. It's like he walked in, sat down, got a 45 second briefing on its features and then started rolling the camera with zero one on one time with the amp. Horrible demo.

  • @ct6mblack
    @ct6mblack 11 лет назад +2

    I had the original V3, and the soak mode on the clean channel was great for that. I was also able to get some Plexi type tones from the gain channels if I turned the gain knob down quite a bit and turned up the master. It's a fun amp, but good tone doesn't come without a little bit of time and work.

    Ive got the v3m. I used to have the Mesa Simul Cab 295 rack mount amp head. I sold it cause well, no longer in band, the head was heavy af, loud af, taking up space. So I bought this one just cause it was small, light, and if I wanted to all the sudden play in a band, it will be versatile. I think I will be swapping out the tubes though, The stock tubes make it sound very spongy and foamy, not a very tight distortion sound at all the but the cleans are great.

    Compared to most GW reviews of guitar amps, this has a really nice tone. I know, guys, but compared to the other tones that GW had done, this review for the V3M alone is really good and I know its not at its full potential during this, so I can't really imagine how great this amp and cab is... I am sold on getting me a V3412 with their cab that they usually make for it. Just gotta save up so I can get those options that are available with them.

    Okay, I am "told" it does metal to Country to Rock to Blues. But the demo goes from sterile clean to metal and nothing in between.
    Can I please hear the inbetween gain tones? There are plenty of metal amps with a clean channel, I just want to be sure this isn't simply one more of those.
    Will it really do a good medium gain, Stratty Texas Blues Tone, or does it bypass that and go straight to metal?

    I know that it is standard practice to put a SM57 EXACTLY wear this one is placed...But, there is so much more going on beyond this one little slice of audio it is capturing. Maybe it is being sterilized by some $29 digital preamp. Reminds me of my early mic - to - computer soundcard recordings. There is no "bloom" or dimensional texture captured here. And you don't win Best Of NAMM (which this amp did) without it.
    Taylor makes great acoustic guitars!

    I understand that and all, but I feel a review should point out what a piece of gear can do so you know what its capable of. If a review tells me an amp has huge amounts of gain and showcases that through the demo, then I feel it goes without saying that its good for pretty much metal and just that. I see your point and all, but I still feel that if a review doesn't show you something about a piece of gear then the piece of gear isn't suitable for what is not being show. Just my thought.

  • @rjg7000
    @rjg7000 12 лет назад

    @Srinivassa Who told you it has the high gain of a Mesa? It's a Carvin. It's going to have the high gain channel of a Carvin amp. It has it's own unique sort of tone. But I wouldn't suggest going by this review. Or any other for that matter. Carvin says it best themselves, "Give it the test of real-world performance". Order it and see if you like it. Not satisfied? Send it back for a full refund or exchange, no questions asked. Best way to do it IMO.

They feel and sound almost like a 300 dollar guitar but are priced in the 1500 to 2500 dollar range (list price). I've never quite agreed with his definition of "clean". It's always some sort of mild drive. When I think clean, I think of like a Fender Twin or a Deluxe Reverb or something. Very little drive, all master volume. I don't think I've ever seen him do a clean channel justice on these reviews. Despite the fact that he bugs the crap out of me, I'm hard pressed to find high-quality reviews out there sometimes other than his. Oh well...

    If you buy one get the vintage 30 upgrade or you will regret it. Amp is awesome but, that GT12 carvin uses requires to much power to run it nicely. It just sounds muddy. Plug it into Vin 30 speakers and pow... there you go...very nice and very affordable. You don’t need more than 7 watts in the house, and 50 watts will run a full stack easily. Just sayin....I own one!

    Not a great demo here, these amps sound so much better with an EQ in the loop (I have 4 presets of volume, EQ and delay in the loop using a Zoom G2 pedal - Richie Kotzen does the same).
    The gain channels clean up and all 3 channels react very well if set up with gain on 3-4 and then add an OD or boost pedal on the front end. The EQ adds warmth to the gain channels which are quite hard & cold sounding on their own. I'm playing through a Bluguitar Nanocab 1x12 - the amp and speaker sound great although it does resemble a Spinal Tap "Stonehenge" moment when set up next to a 4x12 back-breaking rig
    Saying that, Paul's demo is wonderful compared to the "Tone King"

    If you need a clean channel this amp is not for you. I got one and I thought it was broken. The crunch channels were both great but when I switched to clean it became a 5 watt transistor sounding amp. I mean no volume nothing close to 50 tube watts. Carvin sent me another and I was very disappointed. Same issue. Its impossible not to notice this glaring design flaw but somehow all of our trusted youtube reviewers do........mmm. That said if you never use clean and can get one cheap I did like the crunch channel. I've never seen one cheap enough to bother with though so I'd pass on it.

    This recording is lacking & Paul misunderstands it's features. The EQX control just adds range to all the tone controls. Ch3 is the clean channel. The center position is sparkly clean. ,2nd position adds highs, Soak position adds a warm compressed tone. Ch's 1 & 2 are the same. The ctr pos is a classic driven tube sound. The thick pos is just that. The Intense setting is the wildest gain structure. It's a much clearer sounding amp than this video provides. It sounds amazing & it's $599. USA made

    He's not reviewing a guitar, but I can see what you mean at least. I can't really think of anything truly horrible thought that they've reviewed. Like I said, if something can give you that many problems then its not worth reviewing to me.
