American bias showed with that question. It's an American production and organization, but they forgot that the event and purpose is international and therefore neutral. But Miss Kenya did a fine job. Very real and respectful. She is also very beautiful.

Imagine the pressure Maxine had during this time. People were expecting a back-to-back after 43 years and also, Miss Universe 2016 happened to Philippines. We have to look on her efforts to get through all of these, the expectations and the bashing.
Personally, I think she handled the pressure better than Gazini did following Catriona 🤷 she had to deal with following Pia AND being the host delegate. It was simply not her destiny. She nonetheless did her best and that is all that can be asked of her 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

You can tell she really wanted to win. She was low-key upset when she won 2nd runner up only. I think she was so passionate and determined to win to bring the crown and honor back to Colombia because of what happened in the Miss Universe a year before when Steve Harvey announced Colombia as the wrong winner.
In this round, France clearly made a relatable statement/answer. Philippines lacked substance and composure. Thailand answered great had she expounded and gave a powerful ending she could have entered Top 3. Kenya's answer was good but the question didn't gave her justice.

Maxine did a great job, representing a country at miss universe is a huge deal specially representing one of the most powerhouse country at miss universe. Philippines had one of the easiest and most predictable questions in a beauty pageant Q&A and this is her answer?? Thailand is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS and the most beautiful of them all but also an uninspiring answer, with a somewhat hesitant reply. They should have spent more time prepping for the Q&A and less time on cat walking. Kenya had a totally unfair question that’s close to impossible to answer objectively without coming across like a political partisan. These questions should have been banned. France is so calm and collected and confident with her answer. Not an easy question at all but she managed to pull together a coherent reply while being completely unfazed. And had quite a bit of detail in her answer. Bravo and a deserving winner. Haiti didn’t really answer the question but her entire demeanor is personable, pleasant and she came across as a smart, empowered and confident person. Colombia very good answer - also a very difficult question. France and Colombia did best here. Philippines and Thailand unfortunately the worst. I had v high hopes for Thailand to win.
Especially when she started off by saying: "In the last ten years of being here in the world..." Sorry, automatic bomb right there. The current MU from South Africa, Zozi Tunzi is really the standard of How to answer a question on the MU stage. I hope ALL future MU's take note of how beautifully and intelligently Zozi responded to all of her questions.
Colombia aced out in this portion though But Haiti can give her a run for her money. All in all they are very bright. Kenya unexpectedly spew golden wisdom, as I expected from the very beginning. She's rare.

Honestly nagkamali rin ksi yung interpreter ni Maxine. Ang "most significant change" ay "pinakamabuluhang pagbabago" hindi "pinakamabuluhang pangyayari" and sinagot naman ni Maxine yung sinabi nung interpreter na ang "pinakamabuluhang PANGYAYARI" na nakita niya ay yung mga tao na nagtipon-tipon bilang isang nation at nagka-isa para magbigay ng suporta medj pangit at kualang nga lang yung delivery kaya yeah baka nga mas better parin pag nag tagalog na lng sya.
Ang sayang ni Miss Philippines dito no, pero syempre hindi naman natin pwedeng ipilit ang kakayahan ng isang tao. But instead of nakapaghihinayang we still have to thank maxine for doing the great job and were still in the top incomes of pageantry.

I really love it but when she came out in that dress, i knew she'snot gonna win. That's not a Miss Universe Gown but I have to admit that it's very beautiful.
I saw her wearing an all-red gown before the finals. Yun dapat yung sinuot niya sa dito. This gown she’s wearing is kinda meh to me. Visually parang putol yung style ng damit. Parang two-piece na pinagdikit. natakpan yung magandang figure ni maxine. yung silver upper part ng gown niya parang fancy breastplate that gives her figure an illusion as if meron siyang extra ribs na tumatama sa tagiliran niya. Nababawasan yung appreciation mo sa curves niya because of the abrupt cut between the breastplate (silver) and bottom part of her gown (red).
My 3rd, 4th, and 5th runners up here: 3rd Runner Up - Kenya. That was a great answer. She just got the hardest question amongst the six. 4th Runner Up - Thailand. Maybe not a great answer, but she delivered well. 5th Runner Up - Philippines. She didn't deliver well with her answer.

Honestly the toxic side of Filipino fans are too much of how much they bashed Maxine just because of this. It was already pretty clear Maxine's answer wasn't the stand out and I accept that. But please don't bash her especially one of it being "She doesn't know how to speak English." Toxic fans having high standards on our contestant especially when Pia won previously before this happened was already pressuring Maxine a lot. They see when a foreigner speaks English not that quite well, they view it as cute. But if they see a Filipino speak English not that quite well, they start tearing them down and say they're dumb or uneducated. What I want in Philippine Pageants , especially the big ones, is to atleast normalized them in speaking their own language that they're comfortable with. Notice how Maxine HAD an interpreter yet she only answered it English? And from many Filipino pageants, literally majority of the contestants speak English. I just think Maxine had an answer in mind but her delivery wasn't constructed well.

You can tell she really wanted to win. She was low-key upset when she won 2nd runner up only. I think she was so passionate and determined to win to bring the crown and honor back to Colombia because of what happened in the Miss Universe a year before when Steve Harvey announced Colombia as the wrong winner.

In this round, France clearly made a relatable statement/answer. Philippines lacked substance and composure. Thailand answered great had she expounded and gave a powerful ending she could have entered Top 3. Kenya's answer was good but the question didn't gave her justice.
What kind of question was given to Miss Kenya...duh... She lives in Kenya and not in USA. How would she know what's happening their. She even has trouble answering it when she says "let me start again".

Maxine did a great job, representing a country at miss universe is a huge deal specially representing one of the most powerhouse country at miss universe. We knew that Maxine has a lack of capability to communicate but we're so proud of maxine. Being one of the finalist is already an award.

Philippines had one of the easiest and most predictable questions in a beauty pageant Q&A and this is her answer?? Thailand is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS and the most beautiful of them all but also an uninspiring answer, with a somewhat hesitant reply. They should have spent more time prepping for the Q&A and less time on cat walking.
Kenya had a totally unfair question that’s close to impossible to answer objectively without coming across like a political partisan. These questions should have been banned.
France is so calm and collected and confident with her answer. Not an easy question at all but she managed to pull together a coherent reply while being completely unfazed. And had quite a bit of detail in her answer. Bravo and a deserving winner.
Haiti didn’t really answer the question but her entire demeanor is personable, pleasant and she came across as a smart, empowered and confident person.

I really love it but when she came out in that dress, i knew she'snot gonna win. That's not a Miss Universe Gown but I have to admit that it's very beautiful.
I saw her wearing an all-red gown before the finals. Yun dapat yung sinuot niya sa dito. This gown she’s wearing is kinda meh to me. Visually parang putol yung style ng damit. Parang two-piece na pinagdikit. natakpan yung magandang figure ni maxine. yung silver upper part ng gown niya parang fancy breastplate that gives her figure an illusion as if meron siyang extra ribs na tumatama sa tagiliran niya. Nababawasan yung appreciation mo sa curves niya because of the abrupt cut between the breastplate (silver) and bottom part of her gown (red).
Maxine shouldve answered in tagalog since it was rather easy for the interpreter and her to answer

3rd Runner Up - Kenya. That was a great answer. She just got the hardest question amongst the six.
4th Runner Up - Thailand. Maybe not a great answer, but she delivered well.

Philippines’ question was the most fun to answer. But her answer was so flimsy and lacked clarity. There are so MANY significant changes in the last decade: social media, communication, information overload, mental depression, going green initiatives, people’s diet, travel vlogging, dating, cosmetic beautification and aging, apps for everything, celebrity culture, influencers, technology, space exploration, medicine, LGBTQ+ movement, pollution, how people spend money, international disputes, gender equal rights, etc. *THERE ARE SO MANY. She just had to pick one.*
But she picks “Miss Universe” as the MOST significant change in the world in the past 10 years. Wow. And then she tried to embellish her answer with “unity” and “nation” in the most confusing way. Could’ve been a great answer if she focused on nations coming together at Miss Universe and finding beauty and friendship through diversity. _(sigh)_

Honestly the toxic side of Filipino fans are too much of how much they bashed Maxine just because of this. It was already pretty clear Maxine's answer wasn't the stand out and I accept that.
But please don't bash her especially one of it being "She doesn't know how to speak English." Toxic fans having high standards on our contestant especially when Pia won previously before this happened was already pressuring Maxine a lot. They see when a foreigner speaks English not that quite well, they view it as cute. But if they see a Filipino speak English not that quite well, they start tearing them down and say they're dumb or uneducated.
What I want in Philippine Pageants , especially the big ones, is to atleast normalized them in speaking their own language that they're comfortable with. Notice how Maxine HAD an interpreter yet she only answered it English? And from many Filipino pageants, literally majority of the contestants speak English.
I just think Maxine had an answer in mind but her delivery wasn't constructed well.
