By this time, it was already so imminent that an airstrike would come from the Pak side, that India was already well prepared. Hence Pak couldn't do much damage as it wasn't much of a surprise for the Indians. And the Indian Chief was right in saying that Pak was reserving its forces for a long war. They were talking about several months. But an early surrender in the east was actually a surprise for the PAF in the west. The truth is that it was a lost war from the very start. Thanks to the selfishness and short sightedness of Pak's politicians at that time, we lost an all important eastern wing.
Western side also lost huge amount of territories and Easter side was completely surrounded. Eastern side was lossing all battles since the start of war, pakistan also hopes huge help from USA but indian diplomacy managed to counter any 3rd party intervention. Pakistan had to loss that war as they never had real tactics and goals to follow it was just misadventures by Pakistani army which broke there country in 2 pieces and they lost half of there country.
The Encyclopedia of Military History, by Dupuy and Dupuy, covers this in much brevity, but states that the Pakistanis hoped to emulate the Israeli Air Force's success in the Six-Day War, but the Indian Air Force was ready for such an attack, as you point out. All in all, the Pakistani Air Force's plans were still-born, as it appears.
Pakistan's pre emptive strike of 1965 war was much successful. Though it was only partially implemented, the original plan was to wipe out 30% of the IAF on the ground. 2 years later, Israel emulated a similar strike against the arabs in the 1967 Arab Israel war.
Pakistani authors seem to downplay the initial objective of these strikes. They say that it was nowhere near the Israeli 1967. operation. When you look at it closely, it makes sense. It was a very limited campaign with only several airfields and radar stations being targeted in the first wave. Pilots were clearly aiming for runways. This meant that IAF couldn't have been significantly damaged in the strikes but rather impeded for brief time.
spies too played an important role in the wars of india and pakistan. there is a claim that indian spies had warned about the PAF attack, so the IAF was ready when it came. the spy message was initially misunderstood about the date but IAF stayed alert and was saved. indian spies also gave real time information of talk of high level commanders of Pak army in Kargil war. indian spies also detected pakistani nuclear weapon activities in time for india to take useful actions. it is important to leave precise documentation for future generations. not doing so insults the memory of those who fought, who will become ancestors of their future people. rudeness serves no real purpose.

@@Blackbirdz2000 there was no treachery. Pakistan just locked up Bengalis and killed them in Bangladesh. My father was a pilot still under training during the 1971 war. On the eve of 3 Dec 1971, when the war in the west hadnt been declared yet, he saw his instructor walking towards his aircraft. My father, believing it would be a routine sortie, went to him for a frivolous chit chat. However, the instructor seemed to be in a sober mood all this time. Just before he was about to climb the aircraft, he asked my father: 'Do you know where I am going?'. To this my father replied in negative. He then said: 'I am flying to India. To attack their airfield. You will soon get the news'. And off he went.
Folland gnats used by the IAF at the time had a kill ratio of 3.5:1 against f 86 sabre my uncle (1971 IAF veteran) told me that fighting Sabres was like fighting a bull in a cycle, the Sabres were heavy and fast but couldn't dump enough momentum to match the agility of the gnats, these light aircraft could simply move out of the nose when defending. This gave gnats the sabre slayers Nick name

It is a shame that Pakistan, even with the advantage of boasting State-of-the art USA war machinery couldn't gain an acre of land. However, 1947-48 was actually an invasion of Jammu and Kashmir, a princely state ruled by Raja Hari Singh and not a part of the India Union. Pakistan tried to annex the state by hook and crook. Brilliant stuff mate! Enjoyed it. Do one on Indian operations in Bangladesh. IAF achieved air superiority in just under 4 days. Without this the Indian forces couldn’t have afforded to take Dhaka in 13 days. The book “Eagles over Bangladesh” is a pretty good source.
Thanks for the positive feedback! I would like to cover more of these conflict, including the operations in the East. The main problem is the lack of assets in the simulator I use as the platform. We don't have Hunters, Gnats and other airplanes heavily used by India. Maybe it will change someday.

Showtime112... another well balanced video based on good research. I agree that it would be nice to even have static models of some of the cold war aircraft that are missing. I look forward to more of your videos. As a former 104 pilot, it's always cool to see how well they have been recreated, even used like you have as outside view models, as they were an important asset in the 1960's for many countries. Ours were used at the time for low level tactical nuclear strikes. I was going to point out a quibble but you answered that...ie... they PAF used the A model's not the G at the time...but you answered that... again limitations of DCS. Thanks again for a very good balanced view.
Thanks a lot for this feedback! When you get a positive comment from a real pilot, that's an incentive to do even better. True, Pakistani F-104s were refurbished former USAF's A models. This one is a G but we're grateful to have any of them. I think the external model of this mod is nearly on the commercial module level. I heard a rumor that these guys would like to upgrade it to a high-fidelity paid module. Fingers crossed !
Some sources claim that India had agents in Pakistan and IAF was warned about the strike. When the intel came the date written was misinterpreted and IAF was put on alert and was waiting for the attack. Field Marshal. Sam Manekshaw, MC said ' Indra Gandhi ( Then Indian PM) wanted to start the war as millions of refugees where flooding into India and she had letters from Chief Ministers of states near Bangladesh ' and he refused to start a war and guaranteed her a 100% defeat as the weather was not suitable for a war. India was very poor back then barely managing her own people and war was a better option for India than the refugee crisis. Field Marshal. Sam also recollected that back then Indra Gandhi went around the world warned the west that a war would inevitable. She said this to one leader of a western nation that " *Yahya Khan is your friend, not mine. Ask him to make necessary conditions so that these millions of people can go back home or else I'll have to ask General Manekshaw to make those condtions so that they can return."* Basically, India was waiting for Pakistan to start the war and after the fall of East Pakistan there were 93000 POW's. I had both my grandfathers one in Air Force and another in Army who had participated in this war.
@@showtime112 Here's another suggestion, the airstrikes of No.14 Squadron PAF on Kalaikunda airbase during the 1965 war. It is one of the few rare operations that were done by PAF from east Pakistan/today's Bangladesh. See the Wikipedia article on the No.14 squadron it has a few sources to it.

One of the most daring and important operations of the war by PAF lead by legendary pilot sq leader Sajjad Haider, also called Nozy Haider by his friends. Full accounts are available including interviews of the commander. Would be a great re-enactment.
Thanks for the suggestion. It might be interesting but generally, 1965. war is a bit hard to do because we don't have assets used by Indian Air Force in DCS. And I need to research the 1965. War a bit more as well, I generally know the 1971. one much better.
@@showtime112 the mission I am talking of was an air to ground attack by PAF Sabres. Indians lost their assets parked on ground. They'd retaliated later but during the raid PAF held complete control of the situation. There are accounts of this raid available on RUclips for more research.
I know but there's still plenty of limitations because aircraft destroyed on the ground were Vampires, Hunters etc. It is possible to place some other type and just show them from a distance (such as in this video where Su-25 was used for Gnat and Gazelle for Alouette). But it's not the best way to do it.
Brilliant video. PAF is trained to fight an enemy twice its size. PAF pilots are aggressive and still possess the same passion, motivation, commitment, and high-level of professional excellence that their enemies are afraid of.
Did you forget Indians were flying all the primitive aircraft with no missiles. No night flying aircraft. Relied only on guns while the whole of PAF had all the newest Americans jets and was completely trained by Americans. Still couldn't achieve air superiority. But i still admire PAF for their grit and determination. But you can't deny that IAF had outdated stuff when the war happened.
@@Prince.G IAF never disappointed its nation. They fought well with equal courage and determination. As far as the technology of jets was concerned, IAF had a clear edge over PAF. IAF had hunters, which were superior to Sabers of Korean War era. By the 1965 war, they had MiG-21 that were newer than our F-104 fighter. Had PAF not destroyed the great majority of them during the famous Pathankot strike, they would have caused a lot of trouble for PAF. To really understand the weakness of Pakistan. one should go back to 1947. where's the new state Pakistan was made with plan that it will collapse in near future, and merge with India again. But that plan is still a dream for UK and India. Pakistan survived and still do. With in this time Pakistan has become a power, that nobody can actually understand.
India had learnt a good leasson in 1965 especially from pathankot, kalikunda and baghdogra AFB strikes which resulted in the destruction of dozens of IAF aorcraft on ground. In 1971 IAF had orepared in time and placed all its assets in the rear AFBs to save them from being straffed.

Recent videos have the voice track mastered by a professional so I think it's no longer an issue. There's alto the hand edited subtitles on all videos.
As far as the F86 Sabres are concerned, I don't think the PAF aircraft carried Squadron Insignia/ Logos on the tail in 1971. That came into effect with the F-16s much later. Tail markings on the F-104s have to be corrected. The Star on the Crescent always points to the rear / tail of the aircraft. Please amend that if possible. It is hilarious that two F-104s abandoned their attack on the Amritsar radar after sighting a single Gnat! The aircraft (Hunters) at Pathankot had already been moved to safer positions as such an attack was expected (apropos 1965). These same aircraft flew in from other locations the next day to launch retaliatory strikes against Pakistan at Peshawar. If I recall correctly, WingCo Cecil Parker led the flight and Flt. Lt. Channi was his number two. Please cover that episode in your next video. According to a notable air warfare historian in Pakistan, this was the most effective attack by the IAF on a Pakistani target.
Thanks for the info. As for F-86 skins, I'll check with the profiles available in some books and see what can be done with the available ones. Regarding the strike you suggest, it is not a bad idea. I've had other people suggest it already and I'll try to find out more details about it!
These strikes were not aimed at India but towards world community specifically towards USA as it relieved Americans of any responsibility of coming to Pak defence asper CENTo SEATO pact, these pacts called for joint defence of Pakistan by the USA in case of any attack on her however in case Pak initiate an attack than this would not have applied
It often is so. However, these Pakistani raids against Indian air bases are relatively undisputed. The main difference is that Indians think they achieved very little while Pakistanis say it achieved roughly what they expected :)
The attack was supposed to be Pakistan's version of the Israeli airstrikes at the beginning of the 1967, Six-Day War. It turned out to be a complete parody of that operation.
I initially thought so too. But, a reprise of the Israeli operation would have been impossible and they must have known that. Lessons were learned and most planes were in shelters or dispersed. The Pakistanis mostly attacked runways which is an indication that the aim of the operation must have been much less ambitious.
Nope! It's a mod created by a group called VSN. They produced a bunch of flyable and relatively simple mods. But to me, they are very useful because they fill a huge gap in Cold War era assets.
Actually during this strike Pakistan suffered loss of 3 sabers with 1 star fighter damaged, majority from flying officer Nirmal Jit singh selhon. As for India only the Amritsar and Bhuj airbase runway were damaged which were repaired in a few hours while India lost No aircraft
Beautiful graphics. PAF tail insignia on the Starfighter is incorrect. The star should point towards the rear of the aircraft, as displayed on the Sabres.
Well, you design the mission in the mission editor. Actually, it's a fragment of a mission. Then you play it, and if the replay track works, you go over it and record from several angles. Then, you edit all that in a video editor, add the vocals, some music and that's it 😁
They spread their attacks too wide and they had few aircraft to start with also. It would have been better if they had concentrated their main attacks on IAF stations in Punjab and Kashmir. That is where their army was making its schwerpunkt, so incapacitating the IAF over Punjab and the north, even for a few days would have helped their land operations.
Thanks for another great video on air war between India and Pakistan. It doesn’t look like it will end anytime soon if both countries continue to claim the Kashmir as theirs. I’m not sure if you have done one on a skirmish between the air forces of both countries in 2019 when an Indian aircraft was shot down in Pakistan and the pilot had to eject. He was surrounded by an angry mob of villagers and Pakistan Army soldiers arrived in time to rescue him, for which he was very thankful for.

While Pak politicians at the time managed the situation in the worst possible sense, it wasnt a genocide. It was a crackdown on the separatists movement. The sedition movement had started as early as 1967 (see Agartala Conspiracy). What India has been doing in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir is what classifies as genocide. Gradual ethnic cleansing of the local Muslim population , with over 100,000 innocent people killed to date and countless others injured, disabled, kidnapped, raped and tortured. India had no soft corner for the Bengalis. They recruited, trained and equipped the Mukti Bahini out of vendetta for Pakistan. As far as rapes are concerned, we all know which city is known as the Rape Capital so that will answer your allegation.
I remember news reports at the time that Pakistan wanted to move armoured divisions through India to go to what was then East Pakistan to put down the rebellion. India, not surprisingly, was not that keen for a recent enemy and regional rival to move its forces across their land.

Actually i have seen your comment you are kind of person who says opinion,
The Encyclopedia of Military History, by Dupuy and Dupuy, covers this in much brevity, but states that the Pakistanis hoped to emulate the Israeli Air Force's success in the Six-Day War, but the Indian Air Force was ready for such an attack, as you point out.
@@umarhashim1111 u still couldn't win any war 👍
spies too played an important role in the wars of india and pakistan.
there is a claim that indian spies had warned about the PAF attack, so the IAF was ready when it came. the spy message was initially misunderstood about the date but IAF stayed alert and was saved.
indian spies also gave real time information of talk of high level commanders of Pak army in Kargil war.
indian spies also detected pakistani nuclear weapon activities in time for india to take useful actions.
it is important to leave precise documentation for future generations. not doing so insults the memory of those who fought, who will become ancestors of their future people. rudeness serves no real purpose.

It is a shame that Pakistan, even with the advantage of boasting State-of-the art USA war machinery couldn't gain an acre of land.

Ask him to make necessary conditions so that these millions of people can go back home or else I'll have to ask General Manekshaw to make those condtions so that they can return."*
Basically, India was waiting for Pakistan to start the war and after the fall of East Pakistan there were 93000 POW's. I had both my grandfathers one in Air Force and another in Army who had participated in this war.

I know but there's still plenty of limitations because aircraft destroyed on the ground were Vampires, Hunters etc. It is possible to place some other type and just show them from a distance (such as in this video where Su-25 was used for Gnat and Gazelle for Alouette).

I don't intend to nitpick, however, your channel has set high standards for accuracy.
Thanks for the info. As for F-86 skins, I'll check with the profiles available in some books and see what can be done with the available ones. Regarding the strike you suggest, it is not a bad idea. I've had other people suggest it already and I'll try to find out more details about it!
It's fine, constructive critics can improve the content.
It seems that every bombing mission and air victory is subject to dispute by both armies. Actually, it's difficult to know who did what.
It often is so. However, these Pakistani raids against Indian air bases are relatively undisputed. The main difference is that Indians think they achieved very little while Pakistanis say it achieved roughly what they expected :)
Another one!!!! Thanks:)
Thank you for commenting!
The F-86 Sabre is one of my favorite planes ever! I also like the F-104 Starfighter (the missile with a man in it, as it's called) and the Mirage!
It's a true classic. That reminds me that I've neglected the Korean War a bit recently.
Did you use the Mirage 2000 for the Mirage III? Didn't know DCS had a Mirage III model.
Nope! It's a mod created by a group called VSN. They produced a bunch of flyable and relatively simple mods. But to me, they are very useful because they fill a huge gap in Cold War era assets.
The performance of the Indian Air force has not been described. How much loss Pakistan and India faced should be given in detail.
This video focuses on the Pakistani campaign.
Thank you for the comment! Yes, there seems to have been an oversight with the skin.
Lovely work… I really want to know how u get these done on dcs? Any leads?
Well, you design the mission in the mission editor. Actually, it's a fragment of a mission. Then you play it, and if the replay track works, you go over it and record from several angles. Then, you edit all that in a video editor, add the vocals, some music and that's it 😁
They spread their attacks too wide and they had few aircraft to start with also. It would have been better if they had concentrated their main attacks on IAF stations in Punjab and Kashmir. That is where their army was making its schwerpunkt, so incapacitating the IAF over Punjab and the north, even for a few days would have helped their land operations.
Yes, that is probably true.

That's very interesting video and subject. The war between Pakistan en India is always present for the revendication of the Cashmire province.
Ther's the BALAKOT assault in 2019 or 2017, I believe, with the mirage 2000 and the Kargill war in 1999 again with the french mirage 2000.
We have to notice that the Pakistan has always the Mirage III in their army nowdays.
Yes, I believe Mirage IIIs are still in service.
@@showtime112 yup they are still in service, Pakistanis have done a very good job on maintaining that fleet.
Yes they are only used for ground strike missions.
Mirages remain not just in their fleet, but on their sights as well in the form of Kashmir, East Pakistan and the IMF loan.
These little skirmishes are fascinating. Such incompetence on both sides. If only they'd had a bit of RAF advice.
UK did send their Aircraft carrier HMS Eagle following US naval task force, US Task force 74, headed by the biggest nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.
The purpose was to intimidate India and attack India if the need arises. UK has truly been a Lt General for the Americans, obeying them like a pet dog.
Suggestion: mute, or otherwise minimize the DCS engine noise, because your narration has insufficient volume to be understandable
Why wasn't the starfighter module used for cockpit shots in the video?
Actually, it can be flown. The latest version even has a specific cockpit (as opposed to earlier version which utilized F-15 cockpit). But it uses an FC3 based Head Up Display so it just doesn't look right. Besides, Starfighter is such a great looking plane and external shots are quite eye-pleasing in my opinion.
@@showtime112 ok, fair enough
Showtime112 the IndoPakistan wars never will end 1947 to present, I seen a interveiw with Old man from kashmire with is son and grandson, the Old man service in Pakistani army, the Son in the Indian Army and the Grandson undecided which side to join ain't wars hell and confusing for families creating division.
It certainly doesn't look like tensions between them will go down soon.
@@showtime112 ya it will, India is rising Pakistan is going down
very well done showtime112
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Btw it wasnt indo-pak war
It was east vs west Pakistan civil war and india and ussr gave support to east pakistan (bangladesh)
That's one way of seeing it, I guess.
Classic video, keep it up.....
Thanks a lot, sure will!
@@showtime112 hey sire, how are you? Sir there is a video of your about uss liberty attack, i m also making a video on that topic but sadly dont have good visuals, but your that video is soo good, sir can i use footage from that video and use it in my video give you all the credit? Please sir reply.
And keep up the good work. ❤❤
@@showtime112 Can I use your video?
Thanks for the comment. If you put a proper credit with a link, you can use the video. Just bear in mind that F-86 was used to emulate Super Mystere. Also, that's not exactly USS Liberty but a somewhat similar ship.
@@showtime112 Tnk you! 😊
Amazing how British imperialism divided to conquer and rule greater India. They actively promoted animosity and acrimony between Muslim and Hindus while exploiting the land out of an estimated twenty trillion dollars during two centuries. By creating such conflict of religion they managed to subdue a whole subcontinent with a mere 100,000 troops at any one time aided by the idiocy of the people they were pillaging.
Hindu Muslim enmity was not created by British. It started in AD 712 when Islamic invasion of india began.
India had 15:1 superiority in East Pakistan (according to manekshaw in 1999 program face to face). India just plays the numbers game.
Please make a video on Indian air actions in the West and East.
There are several videos about Indian operations in this war. The limiting factor is the lack of assets. There are no Hunters, Gnats or proper Su-7s in DCS.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching! Good to see older videos are getting some attention.
IAF had only primitive jets with no missiles. No night flying aircraft. Pakistan was completely trained by Americans and had all the newest Americans jets. Indians relied only on guns.
Where did you get that mod for the Su-7?
A viewer sent me the download link but I can't remember exactly where. I think it was a comment under a video. The 2.7 version made it look much worse, cartoony. Probably something wrong with the textures. That's why here there are no close-ups. I sent an email to Cubanace who created the mod asking if he could update it. He never replied. If you leave your email address, I can send you what I have.
Let us all mourn because today a legend "Ghost of kyiv" has died in battle after downing more than 40 russian fighters.
I'm really looking forward to a serious research about him. Could be the greatest story ever.
@@showtime112 WTH, Ukraine announced that he is Alive!
Which makes me think that he is true or not?
Ghost of Kyiv is pure BS.
😂 lol
Showtime 122 ... I believe did request you to make a video from grt air Battles indo pak war of 1965 couple of months ago also requested to refer from the books of sir.kasiur tufail who is one of the renouned war historians in the subcontinent...still good attempt 👍
Lots of requests for the 1965. War. And personally, I would like to cover it too but for now, there aren't enough assets on the Indian side. Hopefully, Hunter becomes available in the future. Thanks for commenting!
i really wished pakistan had silver camo on their mirages like israelis
Sure, but I think the camo looks pretty good too. Silver camo gives more of that 50s/early 60s feel.
game video used for this program
I prefer to call it simulation 😉
Why show a F104 that was never delivered to either India or Pakistan?
If you mean, why it's not the A model, the reason is very simple. We only have this one.
Pakistan 🇵🇰 didn't station any significant assets in East Pakistan.
All the transport and fighter planes, heavy tanks and navy craft was in West Pakistan.
East Pakistan ( now Bangladesh) was definitely the poor relation.
The intervention of the Indian Army was a mixed blessing.
As the Indian soldiers left, they asset stripped Bangladesh.
All the locomotives, heavy machinery, rolling stocks, trucks and barges were taken to India.
For decades, Bangladesh 🇧🇩 languished as the poorest nation in the world 🌎.
Pakistan was lost its all sobers, and Star fighters they don't have any shy , and they're trying for another fight with India.
Is that 104 on the ED website for download??
Not on the ED site but you can find it on this forum www.lockonforum.de/community/board/10-mods/
Like MIG 21s, the Starfighters 104s too were famous as Widow Makers or Flying Coffins...
In the September of 1971the pakistani sur force f-104 Starfighter shoot
Paxitan lost his half territory and then born Bangladesh 🇧🇩
82ND AIRBORNE
Wow!! Starfighters are sexy for sure!!
Repeat!!
Also, I think you are using an AIM-9L/M on these F-104s, I don't think they were even in service then lmao
And that is actually an F-104G instead of A model used historically. 100% accuracy is impossible. Not because of lack of knowledge but because no simulation can have all the variants and sub-variants of everything. It would take a century to develop. Literally.
@@showtime112
I know it's not a simulation but War Thunder has a lot of models you may be interested in.
However, you have to "grind" them otherwise they are ludicrously expensive. And I think that War Thunder's mission editor is extremely limited for this sadly.
Please devide your videos in parts like intro, narrative intro, attack, landing, final word etc.
I used to do that but it's just more work and it actually shortens the average view duration 😁
@@showtime112 I would Agree with you, I like how your Videos 'Flow", Well Done!
Thank you for the feedback!
With nuclear weapons now. War is just crazy. There must be a better way solve problems.❤️
There is but we need to be ready for it.
Can you do the 1965 war when M M ALAM shot down 5 Hunters in less than 60 seconds!
I plan to cover that story sometime in the future.
Pakistan had F-104A and not F-104G shown at the video
Had A model been available, it would have been used.
Where are the inverted commas in the title 🤔
I think they were there originally but I played with AI suggested titles later. I'll put them back, thanks for pointing it out!
It was at this moment india decide to declare war on Pakistan
How do get all the planes for your videos?
You mean the mods? The F-104 was developed by VSN, they have a page where you can download them.
82ND AIRBORNE
I don't care what it takes!! GET BELOW THE HORIZON!! YEEEEEHAW!!
I would some videos on how vietnam shot down americans without sine casualty untill operation bolo
Please create one vidio about how PNS KHASI sink in 1971vwar.
Unfortunately, naval assets in these simulations are quite scarce and I think we don't have anything similar.
