Before v4 the big difference between the Dunedain and Bree was the Beacon of Hope system which made the Dunedain use alot of other human troops while Breeland had a more Arnorian feel to it as all you had your standard watch troops and greenway riders available everywhere. Now, however, there is a lot less of a difference since the Beacon of Hope system was removed/revamped... You're just a weaker gimped Dunedain I suppose.
I would give the Breelanders a billhook unit, because it’d be very thematic and realistic, because bills were cheap, efficient and kind of a Swiss Army knife of polearms.
I really like the Dunedain choice but I kinda wish they'd keep their green, yellow, and brown color scheme while adopting the Arnorian heraldry. Regardless it's seriously dope that Bree troops get new and better armor when siding with the Dunedain
Barliman fired Lotto because of his huge mill project. So Sackvile-Bagginses had to retire and now they both live peacefully in Michel Delving, the farthest place in Shire from Bilbo and Barliman.
The Dunedain camp is also available in longbottom not just Bree, just a nice little extra one. The steelbowmen come from the reuilt crypts in Mengalen.
Yes but how do you rebuild the crypts? When I look at the building brower, I see that a town is required to restore the downs. So I did everything I could to push the population up. It's now at 1000 and there is STILL no option to build a wall and make Mengalen into a town.
I can think of another fun type of hobbit unit. A hobbit ranged unit with an improvised tower or walking shield made from a table flipped on its side, or boxes and baskets or a small boat. Giving them much higher shield but negating their stealth. Deployed like stakes in the game. I could see three versions. Picnic defenders in the shire; the table. Market Stalwarts with the boxes and baskets from Bree and Michel Delving. Stoor Marsh wardens recruited in Vale of Anduin if its taken or if its an ally.
The late game bree land strategy for me was having my main army always shadowed by a secondary army of nothing but rock throwing short boys and the most tanky of troops up front. Never underestimate armor piercing of 1 missle attack when you have thousands of said attack who are being protected by the meat wall. Your main army can do the distracting, softening and counter archer work. Nothing is funnier then seeing late game armies killed by jolly fat short people with rocks.
Great video Galu! I don't mind them being long to be honest. I love Bree as a faction.. They're just farmers, not militaristic at all. Love the work you guys are putting in this mod!
The Dunedain option just seems objectively better, Elves and Dunedain with armour upgrades for your original units. So it’s either, objectively better or multiculturalism.
This moralistic slant to the choice is weird, especially since odds are high that you’ll just ally with the Dunedain again anyways and continue to strike against The Shadow, just with mercenaries instead of your own people.
If you do the retraining for the experience, it’ll work as long as the recruitment queue isn’t above capacity. As in you only use the recruitment slots available
Fully prepared to be wrong, but Im having a guess at Dale for the next 1, seeing as I saw a fair bit of blue in the roster & you've already done Dol Amroth. 2nd guess would be perhaps Ered Luin
You can check on a general’s bodyguard stats in a city but only if they’re unit shows up in the retraining menu, otherwise no they have to be outside. But if they are in the retraining list then right clicking them will bring up the unit not the general character sheet
I want to report a graphical bug but the forum on moddb is locked so I do it here, hope it's ok. I found a Silver Surfer, it's the Dunedain Blademaster with armor upgrade and only for Bree, it's fine with the ND version. In campaign Bree doesn't have access to that level of smithing anyway ( I think? ) but you can see it in custom battles. A minor bug but daaaamn I hoped that they would get the same gothic-styled armor the upgraded bodyguard/gatekeeper unit have, I love it ! Great vids and mod btw, can't way to see what will be in the future !
Big fan of the new guild system you've come up with. I feel like roads should still increase culture by a small amount since it represents a more connected province.
Imagine some province at the Gap of Rohan. After fall of Isengard it has borders with Enedwaith (Middlemen), Rohan (Northmen) and Gondor (Dunedain). Which culture of these should be increased by the roads? I can't see why roads should increase only your culture and not the others.
@@Kirrj There would be more traffic being made by people within the borders than outside so the spread of your own culture would happen faster than any incoming cultures.
@@HereticsRight Hmm... I'd say it depends on a region. For Bree itself it's the opposite because Breelanders usually don't travel too much. They just live on a crossroad seeing other people walking the roads. But you may say that Breelanders will travel a lot during their campaing and I should agree with that) But don't you think that neighbouring provinces should also spread their culture for a small amount?.. It also makes sence because people are travelling and learning. But playing as nations like Dale will be painful with this mechanic because of Dwarves and Elves nearby.
Galu, just watched this again after starting my bree campaign and I noticed the beginning was in February of 2020. A whole pandemic has happened since you posted this video, and I thought it would be cheeky to point that out. Maybe we could get a bree campaign to replace Khand? I would LOVE that.

I have a question/potential bug issue, in my campaigns as human and elf nations, the third tier of farms gives my settlements the population growth bonuses from both the third and fourth tiers of farms.
Inviting every mercenary in the world to your country seems like a bad idea, that's what Machiavel thought, hiring mercenary is inviting your future enemy, you should get an event of a rogue mercenary army appearing next to Bree
I know this is late but I really enjoyed this episode, great stuff :D Love to see Arnor! Bandits are available as a 'normal' merc pretty much all through Eriador. If you pick the merc path you will get a General with Sellswords as his bodyguard named Reginard.
My guess is that you are fighting the Kingdom of Gondor. Firstly because the army has a darkish or dark blue theme, which is shared by Gondor and Dol Amroth. Second, the army composition is made up of medium sized battalions (roughly 120-150 man (or soldier) per unit)). Lastly, I am very certain I saw some of the most splendid units in the game, the famed Knights of The Silver Swan, which can be recruited by Gondor if they construct a certain building near the borders of the lands of Dor-En-Ernil. Fingers crossed!
Galu I think you should RUclips Livestream some of your campaign episodes, It’d be fun to watch you fight in real time and answer some random LOTR questions!!!
Imagine if we could get these script readings in Galus voice as the script pops up in game. Ashamed as I am to say, I have sometimes skipped readings such as this when they pop up (accidentally and intentionally)
I played an Anduin game, and i think i killed like 3 nazgul with the hobbit shirrifs. They regularly got 300+ kills. they look like they will be shit but they’re insane especially in defensive scenarios.
So i've started playing Bree, and these Gate Keepers are crazy strong. They're using Pike animations arnt they? So they actually have an 18 attack and its armor peircing. Idk if pikes normally are AP, but i've noticed them absolutely destroy units more expensive than them multiple times by now. They can punch well above their weight class like crazy, and the fact that they use Pike animations means they actually experience a slightly higher Defense stat? Because of the pike animations ability to stun lock?
Galu love the mod but I suggest some changes. Boats, more ports when choose merchant option, strongholds when choose dunedain. Plus may be bug but I can only recruit dunedain in bree and longbottom.
The ND will be able to rebuild Annuminas, Fornost and Tharbad. Gondor, Dol Amroth and the AA will be able to rebuild the two Osgiliath and Tharbad. The AA will also get the chance to rebuild Annuminas, Fornost and Tharbad in a separate submod, for those who prefer playing in the North.
@@SVTDI Yes, the only difference is that we use a new tier for the Mason Lodge unique to those four factions mentioned above. I love the dwarves of ered luin. I had a lot of fun playing with them but I still don't like those heavy pavise shields of the longbeard crossbows. I think they look too heavy for the less militarized dwarven faction
Way late comment but if you are still playing open descr_unit and descr_building place normans as a faction is the unit. Sell swords are the first unit in the file and remove the general unit tag. Then in building file ctrl + F privateer to find the appropriate building and copy and paste a recruitment line then remove the name and replace it with sellswords. Tweak as you will

@@joevenespineli6389 they are still in the game however I feel it would just make sense and fit with brees theme if they were recruited from an economic building in this case the farms and they would need a name change to reflect this
is it possiblle, and a good idea, to make the shirrifs have a sling to have linke 10 or 20 meters range more and ad 1 or 2 missile damage so that there's at leats one hobbit unit that is verging on being good?
They are already great for Bree roster. Just us them as supporting units. Bandobras archers are the best that you have at the start and still useful there. Hobbits don't know slings (that's good - it's totally inaccurate!) but you can make use of their stones. Just hold the defence on a hill side. When enemy tries to break your lines (good luck with that!), Shirrifs will be able to throw all their rocks with no problem. And every stone that finds target will do damage and lower enemy's morale!
You should try to add more campaigns instead of shatters alliances and War of the ring maybe like The Hobbit and battle of the five armies would really bring in more players and would make the player base play more
Shouldn't Bree get Longbeard pikemen instead of swordmen? They are more representative and Bree already has swordmen, but no pikes (apart from TRG or Farmhands)
I've got a question: If you put two units against each other in the custom battle to see how they perform against certain enemies, how do you give the AI control over them? In my game that feature does not exist or is somehow locked because I can only put units under AI control if there are more than one in a group. However I can't test 1v1 situations then. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I really like the Dunedain choice but I kinda wish they'd keep their green, yellow, and brown color scheme while adopting the Arnorian heraldry. Regardless it's seriously dope that Bree troops get new and better armor when siding with the Dunedain
aah sackville is no longer in the mod? probably the amount of sacking affect their existence :)
Barliman fired Lotto because of his huge mill project. So Sackvile-Bagginses had to retire and now they both live peacefully in Michel Delving, the farthest place in Shire from Bilbo and Barliman.
I thoroughly enjoyed the choice text some really awesome writing.
I'm living in South Korea and your videos are keeping me sane during this whole coronavirus debacle lol
I like choices, mostly cause of replay-ability down the road, so good job on bringing it to Bree.
Seeing Bilbo leading an army or the high elven general speak in a rough english accent never gets boring.
Battle Overview starts around 32:00 not 23:00 as description states :)
Galu uploads an hour long video, the Lord has blessed us this day
Great video Galu!
The length is great to be honest!
Just finished my AA campaign I can't wait for v4
Primaris Astartes me too!
This moralistic slant to the choice is weird, especially since odds are high that you’ll just ally with the Dunedain again anyways and continue to strike against The Shadow, just with mercenaries instead of your own people.
If you want to see buildings and units after barrack event just change city type in building overview. city to castle and castle to city.
That doesn't work for units that are restricted by a script. Try it in game and you'll see.
Me: Omg 1 hour for Bree!
Also me: Why am I complaining?
Best Faction imao ty for detailed description of the choice
If you do the retraining for the experience, it’ll work as long as the recruitment queue isn’t above capacity. As in you only use the recruitment slots available
Fully prepared to be wrong, but Im having a guess at Dale for the next 1, seeing as I saw a fair bit of blue in the roster & you've already done Dol Amroth. 2nd guess would be perhaps Ered Luin
Nailed it
You can check on a general’s bodyguard stats in a city but only if they’re unit shows up in the retraining menu, otherwise no they have to be outside.
But you may say that Breelanders will travel a lot during their campaing and I should agree with that)
But don't you think that neighbouring provinces should also spread their culture for a small amount?.. It also makes sence because people are travelling and learning. But playing as nations like Dale will be painful with this mechanic because of Dwarves and Elves nearby.
Exceptional. Thank you.
Oh I love this, never clicked on any of these videos before, but i'll definitely be watching the rest now!
I would recomend to watch overviews for Version 3, so you can compare :D
Galu, just watched this again after starting my bree campaign and I noticed the beginning was in February of 2020. A whole pandemic has happened since you posted this video, and I thought it would be cheeky to point that out. Maybe we could get a bree campaign to replace Khand? I would LOVE that.
An easy way to fix the difficulty would be to give Angmar some of the ND provinces so they border you in the auto-expansion if you start as bree
Hey Galu, how do you cleanse the Barrow Downs in v4.5?
There is this RUclipsr named clamavi de profundis he makes lot of song for middle earth and it would be a great soundtrack addition for the game. I don't know if it is possible to add them to the game because of copyrights but I will let that to you to see. Also you can check francisco nogueiras.
Actually if you choose the mercenary route you get the final tier of towns. so you can upgrade to large cities and get the mercs.
We need a campaign with this faction plz
By far the #1 cozy faction
I have a question/potential bug issue, in my campaigns as human and elf nations, the third tier of farms gives my settlements the population growth bonuses from both the third and fourth tiers of farms.
Inviting every mercenary in the world to your country seems like a bad idea, that's what Machiavel thought, hiring mercenary is inviting your future enemy, you should get an event of a rogue mercenary army appearing next to Bree
Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits and Men all in one army. Awesome.
I know this is late but I really enjoyed this episode, great stuff :D Love to see Arnor!
But omg did I almost scream at you during that battle, you lost so many gate keepers trying to run away from Agandaur when the Gate keepers are effin' armour piercing halberds! And the Black Numenorians were tired and bloodied up!, Plus the gate-keepers inspire nearby troops, you ran them away from your battle line, and did the same with Andy your commanding general! RAAAAAAAAH God damnit Ligizd. Running away both units inspiring your troops to not break and offing Andy instead of sandwiching the decimated, bloodied up Black Numenorians between your two armour-piercing melee units!
Vad gör du mannen! Du hade förmodligen slaktat Agandaur i melee! :D
Rant over, love your videos, am going to keep watching. :)
Does mercenary Bree not get Bandits or Sellswords?
Bandits are available as a 'normal' merc pretty much all through Eriador. If you pick the merc path you will get a General with Sellswords as his bodyguard named Reginard.
@@feelingpine9123 Cool! Thanks for the quick answer
I´m actually so hyped for Version 4^^
Ok, was crushed. I'm trying again, but more defensive this time
My guess is that you are fighting the Kingdom of Gondor. Fingers crossed!
ahhhh. Dale it was, of course :)
I still miss my watchguard units 😢
I played an Anduin game, and i think i killed like 3 nazgul with the hobbit shirrifs. They regularly got 300+ kills. they look like they will be shit but they’re insane especially in defensive scenarios.
Where did the upgraded road building (Green way) go
38:07 ‘They move slightly slower because they’re hobbits, they’ve got short legs’ 😂😂
Do we let the Free Peoples stand alone?
No... not alone.
I like that you talk too much. This is an excellent overview.
Galu love the mod but I suggest some changes. Boats, more ports when choose merchant option, strongholds when choose dunedain. Plus may be bug but I can only recruit dunedain in bree and longbottom.
I know I'm late to the party and all, but those bodyguards really carried my fat merchant ass
I think it's Dale but not completely sure
If ND can rebuild Tharbad , what is going to happen to Annuminas ?
I think Galu said it would be already rebuild from the start of the campaign
@@andreumuntaner5600 If that is true the nice
The ND will be able to rebuild Annuminas, Fornost and Tharbad.
Gondor, Dol Amroth and the AA will be able to rebuild the two Osgiliath and Tharbad.
The AA will also get the chance to rebuild Annuminas, Fornost and Tharbad in a separate submod, for those who prefer playing in the North.
@@arkay9334 Will the files be able to be edited like for V3 , cause i was able to enable Imladris to rebuild all Dunedain cities ?
@@SVTDI Yes, the only difference is that we use a new tier for the Mason Lodge unique to those four factions mentioned above. This allows to choose which faction can rebuild a settlement in a certain region.
It's actually very straightforward. You will need to edit the faction requirements in the edb so that the High Elves have access to the same tiers as the ND.
If you still have doubts, you can send me a pm on Discord once V4 is released. :)
I love the dwarves of ered luin. I had a lot of fun playing with them but I still don't like those heavy pavise shields of the longbeard crossbows. I think they look too heavy for the less militarized dwarven faction
They saw Journeymen of Bree using such shields and liked that idea)
What is the name of the music at 49:13 and at 56:31 ?
I don’t have a clue but i though dol amroth but you’ve already done it but the only blue i can think of is dale or ered luin
Are journeymen a pavise crossbow style unit I.e the shield can stop arrows when reloading?
Nope , is only estetic
I don't think the engine can afford the trick you've described. Shield defence just adds to other types of defence and permanently reduces damage.
Am I having a stroke or was the Brandobas archers not mentioned in the second half?
Other than just the look of them that is.
47:30 He talks about them here
@@crepley8335 Ah cheers, must've been off when watching.
You said you can recruit every merc unit but what about sell swords or just the simple bandits ? Im sure there are others as well
Way late comment but if you are still playing open descr_unit and descr_building place normans as a faction is the unit. Sell swords are the first unit in the file and remove the general unit tag. Then in building file ctrl + F privateer to find the appropriate building and copy and paste a recruitment line then remove the name and replace it with sellswords. Tweak as you will
Does experience on archers actually matter that much?
Iirc it dosent affect missile damage
It reportedly improves accuracy, though I've been unable to confirm this.
Doesn't it increase defense skill as well
Sadly no. It only did that in Rome 1. It does increase morale though.
Why did Farmhand Pikemen get buffed?
Because wargs and mounted Dunlendings now need to watch out who they charge at)
Lumburmun!
😍😍😍
The script is awesome
Hurah!
Its dale? i know there is a rework for the blue dwarves so by bet is dale
Yea it is would be funny if i get that wrong
Could you rename the bree land militia to something farmer inspired for example farmer militia and make it so they are recruitable from the land clearance/ farm buildings and instead of spears they could have pitch forks or other pole farm tools as they should remain spear men
Did they remove the farmstead pikemen(?) unit? I think that fits your description if its still in the game
@@joevenespineli6389 they are still in the game however I feel it would just make sense and fit with brees theme if they were recruited from an economic building in this case the farms and they would need a name change to reflect this
@@jimmyjoyce3554 Ahh yeah I suppose so
is it possiblle, and a good idea, to make the shirrifs have a sling to have linke 10 or 20 meters range more and ad 1 or 2 missile damage so that there's at leats one hobbit unit that is verging on being good?
Dwarven Kings had a big counsel and decided that they don't want to give such mighty weapon to even friend's hands)
Help, does anyone know the name of the music that starts at 41:30?
Join the elves!
All units look like a pool table.
How to get rid of the Barrow wights? How many times they will spawn? Until the end od the game? How Barrow-Cleansing feature work?
A lot of times. I think you need to somehow upgrade that settlement to next level and build a special building.
