Well, screwed up my EL campaign earlier today. Turtled mainly and built up my two main settlements from the start instead of expanding much, so I had to face the Elven army after getting the messages about Eridador rises. I had the General, his heir, Grindfarn and the other rever units along with pikemen, crossbows and the rest of a stack in Thorin's halls. Defeated most of the enemy by holding them at the gate, with losses of about 30 % . All the enemy had left were 4 catapult units sitting outside, so I foolishly charged my army outside across the bridge only to have my leader, heir , Grindfarn and other general die in the first salvo of firey catapult projectiles. Lol guess I forgot the slowness of the dwarves running compared to the other races (since its a while since I played another dwarven faction - KD), but couldn't believe my back luck in losing 4 generals in a single salvo. My bad decision at the end of the battle aside, Arachir says that spawned armies are absolutely intended to take the settlement, well I was able to hold off the rest of the High Elven army attacking through such a narrow chokepoint pretty well consiering how many low tier pre-barracks units I had in my stack. Didn't see any army attack Fahamgathol however.
Yeah neither did I. Only one attack. Which I'm kind of ok with tbh, I played one warm up game and am now playing a proper campaign and in both the elves and Bree declared war before the scripted battle after accepting the rings and relations were set to shit. So I'm already at war with both of these neighbors and having only one settlement to defend allows me to actually use an army to try and hold outer settlements. Feels tough but not oppressive.
I do like the Tercio style of the Ered Luin Dwarves. It's probably a good thing they don't get reliable cavalry, otherwise they'd likely crush everyone.
If you pick the side of the grimborn (aka take the rings). You actually do not get those azaghal tomb protectors and always get the gibilgathol. At least when i played the script when v4 came out.
Woah, LOVE the Gundabad Hammer redesign! Good to see the factions constantly get updates on their design that match the established aesthetic of the films. Was a pet-peeve of mine in the Vanilla mod that dwarves had these smoothed out and rounded norse like designs when the films made it clear that Dwarf designs are always jagged and angular, never smooth and rounded.
Played as the ND and boy did I have a blast fighting the goblins, Angmar and eventually the Dwarves. They really gave me a run for my money and they basically trashed me after a while.
My first ered luin campaign I was losing my mind. I play with house rules of no adoptions or recruiting generals (only coming of age and a marriage once in a while) and my first NINE children were all girls which is ironic since in the lore dwarven women are rare
Jonathan Vecchio I try and play with that rule too, adoption messages get so annoying and it feels lame to fill up your family tree with randoms lol (I sometimes train generals tho if I could use one cause that feels a lot more fair)
It's interesting to see how the mod changes over time. There are certainly some changes I like less (like quite a bit of the Ar Adûnâim rework or with Harad still having cavalry bodyguards) but I really like the state of Ered Luin as of version four. And whatever bugbears I might have I always appreciate the work you all put in. And while that might go without saying.. saying it every once in a while is not unimportant. So.. thanks.
Even though it takes quite a bit of hypocrisy to make a complaint about lore, It even says in the Ered Luin Green book that most of the Blue Mountains dwarven settlers had been located in the southern chain during the Third Age. Regardless, thanks for the videos and the mod!
I really like the background you wrote for the grimborn dwarves, especially the tie in with thingol's murder. My only issue is their name. I feel like calling them *grim* is a little meta. They would not see themselves as grim, but the *true* sons of dwarven culture. So they'd call themselves Pureborn or Truesons, or something like that.
I know Galu said Ered Luin are easy but has anyone else had repeated experience like mine? By the time I reach across to Angmar, they're enormous and totally have N Dunedain on the ropes. They can send stack after stack which are easily beaten, but wear down my own armies, and mine have get barely any replenishment units that when finally trained have to travel all the way from home provinces.
That's just the nature of how the game operates in the late game, most empires have reached "critical mass" and the challenge is then just trying to find interest in a campaign that as you have said is tedious
Finally I found someone else in the comments!I thougt I was just being stupid. I tried it 2 times, first time I tried to rush them, but got wittled down. First I thought:" Eh, I probably didn't prepare enough." So l started a second attempt where I turtle for the first 30 turns, only taking 3 rebel settlements, but then I got harried even worse. I'm not that skilled of a Medieval 2 player, but that shit is just depressing, seeing how even your Pikedwarfs just get whitled down while Angmar just drowns you in 250-sized trash units.
48:17 those are Gondor's Bodyguard's fully upgraded, Sons of the Fallen i just played a week with and omg i love them for Arnor what a beast of a Unit! Halberd Units really are amazing now(Osgiliath Guard basically same unit as Sons of fallen)
Yeah it's not even a contest, Grimborn Reavers look absolutely badass, I always pick a unit based on rule of cool, stats are secondary. That's why Isengard is my favourite faction, that uruk-hai armour is so bloody cool and practical too!
Thanks. Having a fun game fighting Elves and Dwarves. Have not loaded the hotfix and was taken surprise by the Dwarven attacks even after being allied but it has made the game more interesting, great work , thankyou.
You're able to produce far, far more pikemen than any other dwarven faction. Nice as First Legion are their recruitment is very slow and won't appear until the very late game. Ered Luin Pikemen and Longbeard Phalanx can easily make up half of your stacks right from the start.
Tried the "no" option for the first time on V.5 and the ships are much better than taking the rings. The constant trade boost from remaining allied to the High elves makes the campaign a lot easier.
Nogrod and Belegost, last of the western dwarf holds! Oh Nogrod, betrayer and woemaker, thy avarice sunk Beleriand! What comes from thee now? The corrupting again of the Ered Luin - Grimbeards for grim work
I like the choice mechanic of this mod - it changes the game a lot. But there is some problems when one choice is more interesting and challenging than the other. Who plays as evil Khand or as good Ered Luin? I think there should be an expansion to the good choice for Ered Luin. When Dain and Brand rejected the Rings there was a huge Easterling invasion to their domains. So why doesn't this happen to Ered Luin? Angmar and goblins may send some doomstacks through the northern side of the map. You should earn your safety!
When you play as a good faction, you get the option upon getting the One Ring to bring it to the Council of Elrond, and if you are playing a bad faction you can bring it to the Black Gate. How does the Ring Script play out if you play a bad Ered Luin?
this is SUCH an awesome script! It reminded me so much of playing the original rome total war and going to war with the other roman factions in the very end game... if you mod the other dwarves to be OP then the war of dwarves on dwarves is FANTASTIC! good job galu! well done!
If you want to survive the dwarf attack just protect thorins halls with a large army. In Fahamgathol you dont need much troops because the dwarfs will use most of the 60 min timer (if you have a battle time limit) and they will lose.
Thank you for making divide and conquer. I have a question about the script, what happens if you don’t have a treaty with the dwarves and the 2nd invasion occurs but you haven’t retaken the 2 settlements?
Thanks for this but I was hoping to hear something about the script that has Ered Lyon go to collect those 3 items from ND Rohan and the island, The Horn ,Narsil and the Helm. I got them with the spies but could not figure out how to do anything with them after that
i have the same problem, the spy that went to the island for the helm took it back to thorins halls worked, but another spy now has the horn and narsil and cant figure out what to do with them, and there are spare anciliary slots on the generals profile so it hasn't automatically gone to him
I play now Northern Dunediain campaign, and I was forced to conquer Ered Luin, as they took the rings and attacked Shire. It was sad, but damn, that sweet sweet mines income!
@@imnotyourbuddyguy9713 well, as far as my experience goes, I always rush towards Angmar. Bree can defend from Enedwaith and Dunland at first at least, and Angmar have a habit of expanding fast. Ered Luin, if they remain good, will help you with them if you leave them a pathway towards Angmar (like cities they can conquer as to border them), and High Elves will mostly shield you form Goblins. But you probably just meet to watch the world and see what's best.
You say that the Gabilgathol Guard and the Grimborn Reavers are mutually exclusive depending on the choice taken during the ring script, but I'm on turn 75 of an Ered Luin Campaign, took the rings, and can train both. Is this a bug? I downloaded V4 on the 28th of March and I have not downloaded any hotfixes or anything because I wasn't aware of the discord until recently. Also, a huge thanks to you and the team for all you guys do. You really help to bring Middle Earth to life, at least for me.
Erebor has the more agressive units like axethorwers and 2h axmen and mattocks but lacks ranged units while khazad dum has the best well armored defensive units, mostly spearmen and has good archers. What they have all 3 in comon is good morale and stamina. They all relly on mercenary cavalry from bree, anduin and dale
I was very confused when at turn 50 the High Elves only sieged Thorin's Halls and not Fahamgathol like the overview states. I then realized that I have the Dac 4.1 version. I would have saved a lot of money and stress had I know I only needed to prepare one of my cities...
Hi, I'm not interested in Discord, can you put the hotfix and all other additions to the MOD DB, next to the version 4 DAC. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Does this dwarven general that you get if you accept the rings have a special ability in battle? If not he should definitly have a moral boost in which he sais: "Let's give em a good hammering!"
What happens if the first invasion armies claim Thorin's halls and Fahamgathol and you do not reclaim them before the Dwarven attack? Do the Dwarves attack the Elves/Bree/ND?
I note from looking at the text files that came with V4 originally that you initially (or at some point) called the Grimborn the Dourhand, from LOTRO. In my own version, I changed it back because I've always loved the Dourhand from a flavor/lore perspective, and my version strongly hints that Grindfarn is Skorgrim Dourhand in some form (he, in my version, having "died" and disappeared when Beleriand sank and the Blue Mountains were broken). In LOTRO, he's some kind of wight or undead dwarf, reanimated by the Witch-King or Mordirith. I realize that the Dourhand don't work with the gameplay goal of the script, neutrality, since Skorgrim and the Dourhand were explicitly allied to Angmar and even fought against representatives of Isengard in Bree-land. But I'm very much intending to play an explicitly Dourhand campaign. Unfortunately, I have to be pretty careful how I install this hotfix or it's going to overwrite all my homebrewed text files. Thanks for giving us new ways to play.
That is actually because the Ered Luin script was based off my sub-mod that added in the script for V3. In my submod, the Dwarf clan was Dourhand. They were changed as it was decided that the main mod of DaC would make up their own stuff rather than use stuff from other games which is why the nazgul names were also changed. I personally think there are no problems with the Dourhand as I got the impression they only allied with Angmar because Angmar essentially used Skorgrim's corpse as a puppet to manipulate them. Anyhow, as such, once things have stabilized a bit in terms of the hotfixes, I will release a submod that will restore the Dourhand to the script along with some minor features (Such as Grindfarn being able to find Skorgrim's helm).
Cool vid mate, is it an idea that erebor units will b changed to the hobbit units because the iron hills units in the batlle of the five armies were really cool
It might be helpful to put which units are locked behind scripts/choices in their unit descriptions. That way people know how to get them and so that you don't get confused which units are which in faction overviews.
Does this script play with AI Ered Luin if the AI accepts the rings? Will I as Gondor for example suddenly get a message "Thorin's halls lost" and Erebor owns the province?
Thank you and the team for dac i followed you from the first versions i have one question how the corruption and others work the only thing i know is that it has to do with rebels .i would appreciate the help .
Great job so far. Weird modding question: if i just copy and past some files from DAC into original Med 2, Can I replace lets say scotland with isengard and play as isengard in Med 2 and just take over medieval europe or no? or is it possible but complicated? I know this maybe a strange question but I am legitimately wondering because I have always wanted to play as LOTR invasion army into Medieval europe.
Dan Sem not necessary deleting Scotland as you could just replace Scotland as Isengard in the files. It’s definitely possible. Just will be quite a bit of work to add stuff like unit voices and accents to make the Uruk-hai sound like Uruks. And some archers may need special animations like the bowstring animation since I believe it’s not in vanilla medieval 2.
This is hands down the best script in the game. I mean, it is so damn interesting to get back actual rings of power plus it is correct according to the Lord od the Rings where Sauron really sent emisairies to dwarves with this proposal. God damnly good work guys! Thank you for your work.
Random question: does taking a dwarven mine with any other faction give the same bonus income as the dwarves get? Or does it nerf it for other nations?

No. Everyone else's mines are worse, even if captured.
As you mentioned EL are Pike and Crossbow focussed, what about Erebor and Khazad Dum? I can see their roster in game obviously. But I can't clearly tell.
What if you say no get the Elven Units and then betray the Elves do you keep the Units (boats mariners) or are they taken away? No training and/Or Disband of already trained units?
I might have missed it in the video, but if the high elves claim Thorin's Halls & Fahamgathol and you as a player are unable to reclaim it before the turn that erebor & KD are suppose to attack you. will the attacks happen at a later turn or not at all?

They don't happen if you don't have the cities but the armies do spawn near those cities but they will likely just try and walk them back to their homelands.

I love the script but I have an issue. You specify that each faction has a particular specialty. EREDs being pikes and crossbows. However anytime I set up phalanx and pike walls the enemy just walk right through and I don’t mean fight, I mean they literally walk through my men like ghosts. Is this a bug?

Javier Estrada Yes very OP, the battles are a breeze. The campaign side is a different story: easy enough to defend territory, but hard to advance into enemy territory while maintaining garrisons, public order, ensuring proper defence, etc, since units are expensive + very slow to train

I'm playing my ered luin campaign now and it works the same for me. I always get Gabilgathol guard
That's correct Galu just got the Gabilgathol Guard and Azaghal's Tomb Protectors the wrong way around. It's the ATP that are good-route only.
Got to say I literally get through my week by guess how much longer I got to wait for another campaign overview video.
@@wyliehj Tolkien places great importance on bloodlines so adoptions seem too lore breaking .I avoid them as well - unless playing as orcs.
Really enjoying the mod and general content great work and looking foreword to future versions
So.. thanks.
Arachir thank you and your team a lot for all of your hardwork creativity and dedication
Even though it takes quite a bit of hypocrisy to make a complaint about lore, It even says in the Ered Luin Green book that most of the Blue Mountains dwarven settlers had been located in the southern chain during the Third Age. Regardless, thanks for the videos and the mod!
Watching Galu’s videos have single handily improved my English grades more than all my years of schooling
I love how the Royal Armour retinue is just dwarven armour from Skyrim
I really like the background you wrote for the grimborn dwarves, especially the tie in with thingol's murder. My only issue is their name. I feel like calling them *grim* is a little meta. They would not see themselves as grim, but the *true* sons of dwarven culture. So they'd call themselves Pureborn or Truesons, or something like that.
Grim is also Germanic for obscured or hooded, so it could be fitting.
Hence one of Óđinn's names being Grímnirr.
@@mattaffenit9898 explain more why you think "hooded" is thematically appropriate.

I was debating playing these guys last night looks like youv helped me decide. Time for the dwarfs to rule the world
How many invasions do you want after the Grimborn accept the rings?
Arachir: Yes
Amazing work from the DAC team as always!!
Splendid work as usual Galu and team. Sadly I am a scrub and won't try out the hard path any time soon.
What about the past videos regarding of retake Southern Ered Luin and the whole "Controversially" The second Balrog tho:P.
That hasn't been implemented yet.
You guys should give them an elite pike, otherwise I don't really see the whole: "Pike and crossbow" theme
EL: "we are the pike experts"
KD First Legion: "Let us show you how its done, noobs"
You're able to produce far, far more pikemen than any other dwarven faction. Nice as First Legion are their recruitment is very slow and won't appear until the very late game. Ered Luin Pikemen and Longbeard Phalanx can easily make up half of your stacks right from the start.
ya ered luin is your typical corner camp and fill everything with bolts faction. they also have the smallest roster of the dwarves.
The corrupting again of the Ered Luin - Grimbeards for grim work
KD and Erebor: Eled Luin, Melkor is evil!
Eled Luin: From my point of view Free peoples of Middle Earth are evil!
Kd and Erebor: Then you are lost....
Grimborn can be in fact lore accurate if they're like lost clan of petty-dwarves, the only "evil" dwarves we have in Tolkien's universe.
Petty dwarves were just outcasts and unskilled/lowly drarves though, so weren't any threat in the lore.
@@willc1294 but they're the only kinda evil dwarves we have so why not use them
@@phoebusapollon2313 for V5 they could perhaps add gyrocopters that drop poison gas bombs for EL faction :D
I was so excited for this overview
Definitely doing a Ered Luin campaign right after I finish my Khazad Dum campaign!
You have to fight the Grimborn in Lord of the Rings Online if you start as a dwarf funnily enough! Good video
LOTRO has its own clan called the Dourhand.
When you play as a good faction, you get the option upon getting the One Ring to bring it to the Council of Elrond, and if you are playing a bad faction you can bring it to the Black Gate. How does the Ring Script play out if you play a bad Ered Luin?
I guess like enedwaith, becouse your told to go neutral to the worlds afairs in the initial message
In the change logs for 4.5, its stated that the ring script still plays out as goods. It hasn't been worked yet.
this is SUCH an awesome script! It reminded me so much of playing the original rome total war and going to war with the other roman factions in the very end game... if you mod the other dwarves to be OP then the war of dwarves on dwarves is FANTASTIC! good job galu! well done!
What happened to the Ring path Building? As far as I recall it was some form of a factory building for dwarfs.

Out of curiosity Galu said that Ered Luin's play style is that of pikes and crossbows what're the other two dwarves play styles then?
Erebor has the more agressive units like axethorwers and 2h axmen and mattocks but lacks ranged units while khazad dum has the best well armored defensive units, mostly spearmen and has good archers. What they have all 3 in comon is good morale and stamina. They all relly on mercenary cavalry from bree, anduin and dale
Axes... and crossbows.
I was very confused when at turn 50 the High Elves only sieged Thorin's Halls and not Fahamgathol like the overview states. I then realized that I have the Dac 4.1 version. I would have saved a lot of money and stress had I know I only needed to prepare one of my cities...
I also only had the siege at Thorin's halls! So much wasted money lol
It's Gondor!
Edit, Yea I was right.
Hi, I'm not interested in Discord, can you put the hotfix and all other additions to the MOD DB, next to the version 4 DAC. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Every time I play Ered Luin, Nar always gets killed in a riot, just my luck! XD
then dont leave him in a rioting settlement :P
Does this dwarven general that you get if you accept the rings have a special ability in battle? If not he should definitly have a moral boost in which he sais: "Let's give em a good hammering!"
I never clicked on a notification faster. Also first!
You cant be first If I was first ;)
shut the fuck up you basic bitch
What happens if the first invasion armies claim Thorin's halls and Fahamgathol and you do not reclaim them before the Dwarven attack? Do the Dwarves attack the Elves/Bree/ND?
I know its minor, but at 25:56 its Silmaril, not Simlaril
Yeaaaaaaaah thank you for makin' ered eluin
Cool vid mate, is it an idea that erebor units will b changed to the hobbit units because the iron hills units in the batlle of the five armies were really cool
It might be helpful to put which units are locked behind scripts/choices in their unit descriptions. That way people know how to get them and so that you don't get confused which units are which in faction overviews.
In Gondor we trust to stem the tide of boredom through these tough times of quarantine. Next faction overview is something to look forward to.
My favorite dwarf faction!
Tumunzahar Nobles simply doesn't fit to dwarves as 2h swordman.
Does this script play with AI Ered Luin if the AI accepts the rings? Will I as Gondor for example suddenly get a message "Thorin's halls lost" and Erebor owns the province?
What background music do you use.I love it.
Dan Sem It’s possible but a lot of work since you would need to import a lot of models, u.i, some animations, and audio.
@@TheCoweringComa so delteing scotland and putting in isendgard and renmaing to scotloand would not work?
I’m playing erebor post barracks event right now and I get hammers of gundabad as rewards for missions it’s great I have like 4 now
As you mentioned EL are Pike and Crossbow focussed, what about Erebor and Khazad Dum? I can see their roster in game obviously. But I can't clearly tell.
Erebor offensive. KD defensive.
What if you say no get the Elven Units
and then betray the Elves do you keep the Units (boats mariners)
or are they taken away?
No training and/Or Disband of already trained units?
Shouldn't Dwarves have a higher Charge Attack? They are small.
@ okay, thanks for the info ;-)
i reaad some things in the patch notes about some artifacts quest where you have to recover the shards of narsil and the dragon helm of dor lomin as well as an artifact from rohan. does that script still exist?
Yes but Galu forgot to mention it. It only works if you accept the rings
But how you can defeat high elves, when they're sitting also in Imladris/Rivendell?
Why is Aulë reffered to as Aulë in the mod rather than Mahal as he would be reffered to by the dwarves?
Because I prefer Aulë.
Firebeard Warriors in praxis are just Warhammer Slayers i think. XD
Hey galu I was under the assumption that the team decided to put the scripts for each faction in the green books, however I haven't seen them. Is this a bug or were they just omitted?
We didn't get round to it. A few factions do have them but most don't.
Hi Arachir. Please would you be able to tell me the name of the Adrian von Ziegler track that is at the start of these faction overviews please? Since hearing it on the Anduin overview the other week, i have skimmed through his discography to find it and have failed miserably. Thanks.
Vindsvept - Spirit Bond.
@ Many Thanks :)
I love the script but I have an issue. You specify that each faction has a particular specialty. EREDs being pikes and crossbows. However anytime I set up phalanx and pike walls the enemy just walk right through and I don’t mean fight, I mean they literally walk through my men like ghosts. Is this a bug?
It is behaviour we see frequently. Sadly there is nothing we can do. It is a problem with the engine.
Does anyone know how I can get this mod on my Mac? I have medieval 11 total war through the App Store.
Can you get the rings if you kill the general that has them or is it different
loving the script! currently finishing off the high elves and about to stab angmar in the back and claim eriador. however my spy is stuck with narsil and eorls horn, i brought them back to thorins halls along with the item on the island, but these two are still with the spy, and my faction leader has 2 un used anciliaries and so does the faction heir, are they emant to be taken somewhere else?
thank you!
i only had thorins halls attacked not fahamgathol? so it was easy to repel the elves.

@ It was called DaC V4 Hotfix. Sorry, I am completly unskilled in Discord, so I kinda clicked whatever until I found what I was looking for. The savegame works fine after hotfixing.
Sooo... you mentioned bugs in DaC V4... is one of them that Free Upkeep Garison Slots from Buildings don't work correct?
I mean... in my Dunedain Game at the moment i obviously build those buildings... and Units with free Upkeep from this buildings should be colored in a slightly darker tone... a blue... and have a text hint if you have the mouse on it.
In some places this is working... in other places where i should have two or three free upkeep units it dont's seemes to work.
Upkeep all works properly. You need to be able to train the troops to get the free upkeep.
@ Yeah... thank you. Remembered you said support is more given on discord and someone gave me the same answer...
So.. should build the Dunedain Camp everywhere even if i can't recruit before i have enough culture there... :D
Thank you for the answer. :3
Northern Dunedain next please! :DD
Yes please: my favourite faction so far that I'm also having quite a bit of trouble with! Endless Angmar and Goblin spam combined with terrible economy and long distances between towns is a tough time
Their troops are op tho!
Javier Estrada Yes very OP, the battles are a breeze. The campaign side is a different story: easy enough to defend territory, but hard to advance into enemy territory while maintaining garrisons, public order, ensuring proper defence, etc, since units are expensive + very slow to train
I’m actually having a blast on them, turn 12 I restarted so I could add +2k coinspurse to angmar Mordor Moria and dunland. But I have been playing this game since first release haha
+2k kingspurse i think
Hi how do you give the other rings to your generals? Idk how to do this and google searches have come up with nothing except cheats.
Put the generals into the same army. Click the ring and drag it to the general you want to give it to.
Each general can only have 7 ancillaries, so you might need to first remove one using the same method as above.
your cat sounds nice
Does the script apply to the AI?
So the overall difficulty is 1/4=0.25
