(Especially Imrahil) - Harad units are powerful against your roster - You can only afford one full un-garrisoned stack against overwhelming numbers and your infantry and archers aren’t that much better than your enemies’ troops. -slower recruitment than enemies I challenge you to name one more difficult faction in the mod, except Enedwaith when you don’t accept the Isengard alliance script and maybe Angmar.
Hans Esa I agree. Honestly when discussing difficulty I think Galu occasionally forgets that he knows this mod better than anyone, plays it so much and still failed a campaign once or twice. Yes, this mod is a okay difficulty if you know what’s what but there’s still a decent learning curve. For new players this mod can be quite hard on occasion, definitely when compared to the base game. That being said I’m very glad these faction overviews are back, they’re as informative as they are enjoyable.
Paulus Boskabouter Yeah, the mod is far from hard and actually losing is almost impossible with most factions. But by comparison DA is difficult and income/expenses are so hard to balance. I just had to put this out there because if DA is a 3 I wonder what he would consider a 5. It goes without saying that we all love the faction overviews and I am looking forward to all of them.
Yeah, I found that if you can afford to try to take the two rebel settlements south of the mouths of the anduin, you'll never have enough troops to hold whatever settlement gets corsair attacked. And as said, you'll be barely hanging on, repelling wave after wave of the three enemy factions.

All I would say is that you are basing that on V3 and changes have been made since then that subtly affect all aspects of gameplay.
I really don't understand how you're meant to do anything as this faction when the cost of units is astronomically high, but the stats don't really make it worth it...
Your mention of Farmhand Pikemen in the unit overview gave me an idea for a possible video in this series. Maybe after you have finished the regular faction overviews, you could do a short video dedicated to looking at units that aren't "standard" for any one faction, and aren't likely to feature in any of the faction overviews. Units like Sellswords, Rhovanion Hunters, Druedain Hunters (I think that's what they are named), Farmhand Pikemen, and so on. I don't know if you would be interested in doing that sort of thing, but I figured there's no harm in suggesting it. Thanks for another great video Galu, looking forward to the Harad overview.

dol amroth is the hardest campaign in the game. i have played all harder campaigns for a couple of times and dol amroth is generally the hardest and thats not subjective. with all other nations there is a simple rule: if you keep attacking and as long as you make a little bit of money its only a matter of time until you win. with dol amroth its different. you can attack as hard as you can and build your economy but still if khand stays evil, gondor loses to mordor or just a couple of corsair invasions at the wrong time can make you loose the campaign. Its funny how you have been saying how easy dol amroth is for like three years or so yet i have not seen you play it except for total war mod which makes all nations easy. If its an unfortunate campaign (evil khand, strong mordor, lots of corsairs, strong harad) i doubt you would stand a chance, maybe that woul make you rate it as the 5 out of 5 that it is. no hate just a huuuuge disagreement.
As much as I love the overviews, this 1 does beg the question of why theres a 3rd tier of the guilds at all if only 1 nation in the world gets it & the AI will always get it before you can, meaning its a buildingnthe player will never be able to use

Ask the game creators. They made the guild mechanic.
i find its a nice incentive for taking on the world ( even though by that stage the guild wont make a significant difference to the outcome but) as they're so rare its a like finding an easter egg
That's not entirely true though i have managed to get the 3rd guild tier twice, once when i was playing as Lindon in v2.2 and another one in my latest Gundabad campaign. So it's actually feasable to get the 3rd tier, it's just very hard and a bit based on luck.

SO hyped for V.4 :D You folks are the best! My experience with DA is that gondor gets steamrolled by mordor and i get overrun by enemies from south and east. And north eventually.
Fantastic video as per usual. I'm looking forward to getting my computer fixed and getting back to playing this game. I'm glad to see the return to the overview videos, they always help to see what you are working towards as far as late game units and scripts.
I own every modern title, but the only game I play on a daily basis is DAC, so knowing v4 is on its way is just amazing, huge shoutout to everybody involved in this mod
Two things worth mentioning in the campaign is first that your heir Imrahil has a bodyguard of 24-28 swan knights. This is huge and should be utilised - don't keep him in a settlement for long! Secondly you mention DA's lack of a cheaper armour piercing shock infantry. This is only partly true as you will push into Harandor soon enough and get access to their very effective mercenaries from the settlements quickly. Very useful when the enemies are bogged down by your defensive infantry and your cavalry is off tearing apart the rest of the enemy formation.
I wanted to watch only my favourite factions overviews but I ended up watching all of them. I like Arnor the most, but after watching these overviews I am starting to lean towards Dol Amroth.

Ive found that khand can be an immersurable pain in the ass when they take over the rebel provinces you most likely leave when you defeat harad and umbar via killing their family. Their cavlary archers are, historically, incredibly strong in the hands of the ai, because it just has to keep distance and shoot, and they are far far cheaper and more reddily available than your own knights, who get _shredded_ by them. They are just annoying to fight against, and you cant even really afford the garrisons youd need to bleed them dry
Galu talking about how med 2 pikes are overpowered, but I think he forgot about the pikes in Rome 1 where enemies would run into the pikes and be slaughtered en mass so that 3 units from the Greek city states could kill 2000 people.
A lot of newer total war games seem to keep going for the random stack spawning like your Corsair invasion. Not sure if I’ll be a fan when I try this mod cause those aspects tend to take out the strategy. You can’t really prepare for them because of how random they are. Basically the big problem I have with the Vortex campaign in WH2
I really like the changes to the unit roster of Dol Amroth. However, the Knights of Edhellond were already an archer unit in V3, so that hasn't changed. What has changed, is the Tirith Aear Wardens being halberds (they were a spear unit) and the Minas Ithil Guardians being a strike unit (They were also a spear unit). I really like the latter change, because Gondor especially already had an elite spear unit in the Citadel Guard, but didn't have any two-handed swordsman unit, which they do have now if they capture Minas Ithil.
I have recently downloaded DaC V3 and it looks like this V4 is it some kind of mid version between V3 and V4? Should I be aware of it being more buggy because of it? I believe version of the files was 3.7.
You said that there are experience point bonus in the mod anymore but at 14:00 both horse guilds lvl 2 and 3 have experience bonus. Also at 12:36 in the Master Merchant's Guild it says that it trains princesses rather than merchants.

The breeders guild trains that specific unit with an experience boost. That works differently to a blanket "all units get +1 XP". The princess thing has already been fixed. It was a holdover for merchants.
@ but they will still suffer from the same bug in a unit that takes like 3 turns to train, you need to retrain them to get the exp bonus :(

@@JasonBoreu They don't. There are two ways of giving experience bonuses. One is hardcoded into the units entry in whatever building recruits it and the other is a catch all ability to give +1 XP. This is a case of the former.
So I was watching the maps dev diary again and I thought about Annuminas. If you wish to add the House of Kings to Annuminas, you should have Annuminas not be ruined anymore, just replace the ruined settlement with a rebuilt one. I know it’s been a long time since it would have been renewed but it never was destroyed in a siege and it’s always so annoying to me that you can not rebuild it. Just consider it please :)
is the not being able to sally out of dol amroth bug fixed? i had issues with that with an invasion on dol amroth i couldnt sally out to defeat them and lost dol amroth with my entire elite army
If I may suggest something for a visual shorthand to tell the difference between Lances and spears, maybe put a banner on the lance of all lancer units. I don't know how much work that'd actually be, but it could be handy.
Probably harad army is bugging somewhere. Just toggle fog of war via console and check which army causes crash (most likely some siege) and move that army away. Try and repeat until you don't crash
Not ever happened to me. But you know that feeling where you get that ring and all them amazing popups come? I just revel in it.. my fastest time in getting the ring was Turn 34 amd i had to take it from the damn elves which destroyed my army down to 89 percent
Ive discovered that you will get the Brotherhood of the talon guild (you can recruit talon knights) in serelond every single time if you upgrade it to a large city i believe
I have 1,281 hours at Med2, played a lot of Dac also, Isengard and Northern Dunedain are my favorites. I consider myself a good player med2 player, but this campaign is almost fucking impossible.
Most likely standalone and definately not compatible. Too many core changes and unit changes Edit: from the past every major version and some minor were standalone so i'm 99% sure V4 will be as well 🙃
Why on Arda does Dol Amroth have Linhir and Tol Falas? Linhir was held by Angbor lord of Lamdon, if I remember correctly when the Grey Company passed through. Not some lordling of Dol Amroth. And Tol Falas should probably be rebel, if not outright held by Umbar. That would pump Dol Amroth’s difficulty up to a 4 at the very least since they are fighting so many factions at once.
Lol, they have changed it a lot since the fisrt version of Dol Amroth...if you compare it to the old ones. But, the Nimrodel Mariners, the Haven Guard and the Sea-ward lancers's horse are the newest models, a little bit, at least, as you may know :) . The faction is pretty much done though. Cheers!
I found DA to be an absolute cake walk as i just general stacked and army, sent it south and killed the AA sons, then on turn end gimilkhad himself just stops next to said stack and comits immolation leaving me to gobel up umbar, while harad was still trying to take gobel miralond. It was like a turn 10ish slaughter
Good vid. Btw, i think cavalry units should have 2 Hit Points instead of 1HP, bc are two things forming the unit, so, it would be 1HP to represent the rider & 1HP for the mount.
No. It would made sense if you could dismount. On the other hand cav with 2hp is OP. Even more than it is now. And you can edit it yourself on game files.

@@kraitel ehh no? Cav dies if you run them into front of anticav. In every other situation they crush unit, wreck morale and run away. But you can edit it yourself and check. And for comparison see bodyguard from base game - they have 2hp and they wreck anything and anyone

I have 1,281 hours at Med2, played a lot of Dac also, Isengard and Northern Dunedain are my favorites. I consider myself a good player med2 player, but this campaign is almost fucking impossible.
You need to win several heroic battles and take full advantage of that.
Is V4 going to be a patch for v3 or standalone?
And is it going to be save compatible?
Most likely standalone and definately not compatible. Too many core changes and unit changes
Edit: from the past every major version and some minor were standalone so i'm 99% sure V4 will be as well 🙃

the way I win on the hardest difficulty is naval raiding, might be cheesy but to me, it is a legit tactic.

Why on Arda does Dol Amroth have Linhir and Tol Falas? Linhir was held by Angbor lord of Lamdon, if I remember correctly when the Grey Company passed through. Not some lordling of Dol Amroth. And Tol Falas should probably be rebel, if not outright held by Umbar. That would pump Dol Amroth’s difficulty up to a 4 at the very least since they are fighting so many factions at once.
Because this would completely wall them off from fighting any of the southern factions as they would be 100% boxed in by Gondor.

I still don't understand why don't you remove the ability for AI to get 3rd level guild if that is possible.
Would be cool if there was a faction that could be added that was made to be very hard to get successful with.

Lol, they have changed it a lot since the fisrt version of Dol Amroth...if you compare it to the old ones. But, the Nimrodel Mariners, the Haven Guard and the Sea-ward lancers's horse are the newest models, a little bit, at least, as you may know :) . The faction is pretty much done though. Cheers!

I found DA to be an absolute cake walk as i just general stacked and army, sent it south and killed the AA sons, then on turn end gimilkhad himself just stops next to said stack and comits immolation leaving me to gobel up umbar, while harad was still trying to take gobel miralond. It was like a turn 10ish slaughter

Amrothian pikemen should have armor stat 6 (like rest of same tier units) instead of 4
Good vid. Btw, i think cavalry units should have 2 Hit Points instead of 1HP, bc are two things forming the unit, so, it would be 1HP to represent the rider & 1HP for the mount.
No. It would made sense if you could dismount. On the other hand cav with 2hp is OP. Even more than it is now.
And you can edit it yourself on game files.
@@prazeodyn836 , no , in MTW2 that would be require other slot for the same unit. Also, it's not OP, bc cavalry always dies really easy vs anticavalry units & it would be logic they had 2HP.
@@kraitel ehh no? Cav dies if you run them into front of anticav. In every other situation they crush unit, wreck morale and run away. But you can edit it yourself and check. And for comparison see bodyguard from base game - they have 2hp and they wreck anything and anyone

You can. It is incredibly hard though and usually not worth it.
