- Welcome to the department of Magdalena, a hub of natural beauty, indigenous tradition, and centuries of history. This department embodies magical realism -- it is the birthplace of Gabriel Garcia Marquez after all! We started our time in Magdalena with a hike to the Lost City, an extraordinary feat of the precolombian Tayrona people.

Colombians forgive but not forget. min 17:00 recalls the Banana massacre, an unionist reclaim against their american bosses (United Fruit company, now Chiquita brands) due to bad job conditions, and they forced colombian army to dismatle their protest with a rain of bullets, based on their "right to keep their profits" and their power as an "foreigner investor"... shame. So, if you´re an american reading this, next time please don´t call "banana republic" one of these countries, it hurts like a punch in a scar...
Thank you for sharing! That's so important to know and to never forget. Thank you for watching 🧡

Nice job, you bring us lots of info and a huge smile. You can try to know La Sierra Nevada from the 3 different sides.
I have a video on La Guajira, though I was mainly in the desert! But I may or may not have a video in Cesar coming soon! 😉
@@brokenbootstravelI already watched your video in La Guajira, noce mochile you got, a truly unique piece. Recomiendo Chocó, Casanare, Putumayo

Me encantaría hacer trekking por el pico Cristóbal algún día!
@@brokenbootstravel sería un tremendo video
how was the water in 14:22?, I suppose cold!
Absolutely FREEZING 🥶 I have yet to find a semi-warm waterfall in Colombia 😂
@@brokenbootstravel yes, the problem is that they came from the snow of Sierra Nevada, freezing cold. warm, temperate or hot water in thermal springs, something you can't find in Orlando Florida for sure!
