I like to go Feed the world with Peter to avoid the food problem. If you combine that with Hermetic Order, you can get super cities and still have lots of production because of your population. Ley lines will always spawn heavily in Tundra, so your Lavras can potentially get to +10 or better combined with aurora pantheon
Peter started my being hard stuck on abusing work ethic to turn holy sites into ancient era Indust. zones; but I’ve never considered using FtW to offset the less than stellar food tundra provides. I’ll have to try this one out, I’ve never super appreciated Hermetic order, I should give that run a shot.
I tried my first game at diety difficulty recently. I did the Holy site and grove as the first 2 districts in every city almost. It worked great! Easy to put national parks everywhere for amenities
You're an F-ing genius. I love playing Peter but the lack of food was always frustrating. Using the breathtaking tundra tiles with preserves is actually genius. Great video homie, insta subbed.
The other good way to get some food early on is to put Magnus in the capital with surplus logistics promotion and he will give an extra 2 food on domestic trade routes. Then your second district in every city can be a commercial hub and you can trade for your food.
Yes love this strat especially with civs like Tokugawa. Russia gets really good international trade routes over domestic so preserves seem to be a good alternative
That is what happened recently on my first Deity Win with Russia. I had a total of 30 cities, all of them with a load of production thanks to Lavras, but all of them had a maximum of 5 populace, the only one who made the difference was Saint Petersburg with 14 populace. All because I rushed Temple of Artemis and with Tundra tiles, a lot of Deers and Leather for the encamptments. I usually compared it with Canada, because the ability to make farms on tundra is extremely important to fight this issue. I may not have the amount of great people generation Russia does, but I find it a very good contender for a first time Deity. Another reason: the ability to not be declared surprise wars, making the AI give even more information beforehand.
Awesome vid! Another civ that I like with perserves is Canada. Using Mounties to build nat'l parks on top is just amazing. Not as powerful as Russia, but still good.
Love preserves with Canada! I usually skip holy sites (cause russia does it better anyway) and go straight for preserves into theater and entertainment to rush conservation and Mounties super fast!
My mate plays Russia all the time and I end up trading him wisselbanken to get to 7 pop. Every time, every time, I tell him put a preserve per 2-3 cities, its 8-12 food to share.
Will have to see where they spawn in my game! Sometimes you get lucky and you placed the preserve directly on top of the tile so you still get the resource 😆
If you're playing Heroes mode you can use Maui to kind of scout for it. If you can't use his ability on a tile outside of your territory, there's a strategic underneath it.
This is exactly my optimal russia gameplay lol. Pick russia - settle - literally pray for the aurora- choose aurora - work for religion - work ethic - toa - preserve - win Its that simple. Tbh, i hate russia for the fact that doing things this way would guarantee you a win by renaissance or industrial era (sometimes even by medieval). Its just that good. And the fact that i always play hermetic order makes it worse, because its so damn hard to get to the atomic era to witness those glorious resource tiles. I know that feed the world would provide more balanced gameplay, but it just doesnt sit right with me to choose a subpar option as a minmaxer.
And to all naysayers, feed the world Russia will never reach the glory of work ethic Russia. You're essentially comparing a great strategy to a broken one. You could literally just spam settlers and lavra to get those great people or if you really want to Speedrun and win by classical, just do a religious Russia game in a pangaea map
Honestly, I think Stupas would have been a better pick than Gurdwaras. You'll have growth covered, but I think you'll start to outgrow your amenity supply.
Stupas are great! Gurdwaras are gonna help especially in cities that don't have preserves like in the northeastern mountains though. Both choices are totally viable
Settling on deer will give you the bonus +1 production for settling on it (but removes the woods so you have to be careful). But you will not receive the +1 amenity per camp in a city from Temple of Artemis since the tile doesn't count as a camp tile improvement. I decided we would have plenty of sources of amenities during the game so I opted to go for the +1 production from the start of the game over saving the camp for an amenity later on.
Yes, but that's the thesis of this whole video. Work Ethic is too good to give up on Russia. Preserves solve the food issue while maintaining work ethic production capacity
It won't work nearly as well unfortunately. Desert tiles cannot have woods, and tend to be very average appeal, so its much harder to find preserve placements, especially with your tendency to want mines for gold per turn. Mali also tends to already have an abundance of food surplus given the civilization ability granting food and faith per adjacent desert tiles. You might be able to make some preserves work with nazca lines (which give appeal) and a wonder like Uluru which can be fun. But it usually reliable to your build.
Are you playing with base game civ 6 without the DLCs? Gathering storm DLC tweaks a lot of mechanics like this. Base game Gurdwaras do not provide housing, and work ethic is different but it is a percentage production modifier based off population usually.
Not really the +6 dosen’t do anything with Feed the World (+ 2 food and housing for every buildings in any holy site) But the +6 guaranteed production from work ethic + Tundra tiles makes Russia a manufacturing menace even in the early game
u get to work 3 extra tiles with the food tho... which can translate to -> 3 mines -> up to 12 production and a extra district. Feed the World is better imo
That's why we went Work Ethic here. Too good to pass up. Since Feed is linked with shrine/temple value, not adjacency, Feed tends to win out on low adjacency holy sites while Work Ethic wins out on high.
@@BIGGIECHEESE31 It's still a good option! But remember, feed is 12 production eventually while work ethic is 6-8 production immediately, 12-16 production at theology, without even building your shrine or temple. The Work Ethic/Preserve combo gets the best of both for high food, high production, and extra districts, which is why I wanted to show it off
I agree voidsinger with preserve is my meta if you can get hercules you could make preserves really quick. I found alot times hard to get cities to grow to 4 for preserve so herc with initial preserve then get to 4 real quick
what are the world gen configs???

Definitely a very good option when playing secret societies. Hermetic Order for the win!
Feed the world super good for Peter. But I will try feed the world with preserves
I never use Hermetic Order, maybe I’ll give it a try with this plan!
Now I want some preserves. Maybe strawberry.

I am definitely trying this strat. Seven seas maps are my favorite map type btw, so its nice to see it get some love.
Set the map settings to Wet for best results!

Wisselbanken is a fantastic way to get food! Preserves do come online faster, so great of you to push for them!
I have definitely under utilized preserves in my games. I definitely want to check this out.
Gets even better in the next video, up tomorrow!
I love doing Russia with preserves, although it always annoys me when I unlock coal/oil and can't take advantage of them without ruining my appeal!
Will have to see where they spawn in my game! Sometimes you get lucky and you placed the preserve directly on top of the tile so you still get the resource 😆

Yes! Link in description but ill post here too: discord.gg/h3pBenNTnq
how do you have the adjacency bonuses showing up when you plan out districts is it a mod?
Yes! Detailed Map Tacks. One of my all time favorites. Link in description for my whole mod list.
If you settle on a deer and build temple of Artemis does it still buff you like if you had double deer or no?
Settling on deer will give you the bonus +1 production for settling on it (but removes the woods so you have to be careful). But you will not receive the +1 amenity per camp in a city from Temple of Artemis since the tile doesn't count as a camp tile improvement.

thanks for this strat as russia, love you

what kind of mod shows the contentment of cities in the top panel and the level of prestige?
Happiness and Growth modifiers! Should be in my mod list in the description!
will the concept work on mansa musa on deserts ?
It won't work nearly as well unfortunately. Why is my Work Ethic belief different from yours? It says 1 production for every 4 followers & Gurudwara for me doesn’t give +1 housing. Damn confused
Are you playing with base game civ 6 without the DLCs? Gathering storm DLC tweaks a lot of mechanics like this. Base game Gurdwaras do not provide housing, and work ethic is different but it is a percentage production modifier based off population usually.
But with consistent +6 or more holy site adjacency, would Feed the World really be worth it over Work Ethic?
