Ant queens are actually fertilized during their nuptual flight. They mate and then make a nest. All of the ants in their colony are a combination of the DNA they collect and their own.
To be more clear this means the ant queens mate the first time they leave their nest and never ever again (fully ignoring the species that have male ants and that specific one without a queen that im too lazy to search up)
Naked mole-rats are also eusocial and do have multiple breeding males. They're also resistant to cancer. So you can also be lore-accurate by changing the species to a featherless quadruped.

An actual mod centred on how ants function, with a queen that is able to lay various types of specialist eggs depending on what the colony needs (like shield ants that can act as living walls, soldiers, specialized workers and so on) would be super cool. You could have it so that the queen has her own skill tree that she needs to go down in order to access more and more specialized ants, with the eventual ability to create another queen that you can send off and start an additional colony. You could even potentially have a research tree dedicated to buffing your ants, leaving lasting infrantstructure for the eventual point when the queen dies, allowing the new queen to not have to start from scratch with their skill tree. It could also let you unlock some ant themed stuff, like the ability to harvest leaves from trees to feed a special, more efficiant mushroom type to better sustain a large colony. You could unlock special furnishings that do things like give eggs hatched near them skill buffs, or act as more efficiant workstations when manned by their respective specialist ant. If something like this already exists, please let me know, and if it doesn't and you know how to mod, it would be bloody awesome if you did make it.
@StalkerQtya Veterans like us know how to stop a fire. A cheap roof 3 tiles across can protect even the most pathetic wooden wall. And performance is not as bad anymore since dirt vanishes over time and in rain.
14:50 i think the more detailed coverage of your colonies is neat ! When i play rimworld i like to get immersed in the story the game creates and taking it slow means we get to see more of boris
Just a heads up from a pyromaniac: Fire in Rimworld actually triggers rain to help with performance, and to prevent entire maps burning down. This can be mitigated by some things, such as the death pall.
If you want things to burn proper in Rimworld, it's better when it's inside rock walls, with Chemfuel and wood furniture. Or in arid climate. We recognize each other us pyrobros.
I don't subscribe to the bi-phasic sleep stuff, how will my colonists have good sleep stages and avoid alzheimers in later life if they never enter REM sleep? I mean... Hive.
@HazzorPlaysGames I'll just cry here in the corner with my inexplicable caveman sleeping. ಥ_ʖಥᵇᵒᵒʰᵒᵒ But, yea, your colonists will spend less time in the later stages of sleep deprivation so it can be a handy trick.
The cool thing is though, that ants do actually have very good defense against disease as far as insects go. They have to to survive living with hundreds together in a cramped, damp, and surprisingly warm nest.
As a king of all the ants in the world, I can confirm this is literally how we do everything. Thank you for this video, Hazzor, we will spare you when we decide to take over the world.
Your grace, King Antonoff, an honour and privilege to encounter one such as you in this comment section! May your reign be without end and your pheromones musky and pungent.
The funny thing about trying to burn down that hive, is that the game is actually programmed to put fires out if they get to a certain size. If too much of the map is on fire, the game literally calls in a rain storm to put it out. So no, it wasn't bad luck. Btw next time for insects, hold your colonists behind a door with your mele pawn infront. This way you colonists can all shoot at the enemy while the mele tanks and holds them back. Don't know if that would of been enough but certainly better than fighting in the open.
