Another thing I’d like to add is the danger of trying to sell expensive jewelry directly to the customer. You may find yourself in a situation you don’t want to be in. Always pay attention to your surroundings.

Always meet in a public place,
Never give your address, try not to give phone number.
You can meet at a police station, bank, mall. But making the sell at a jewelery store is kind of rude to the jeweler

My cousin stole and sold all my moms jewelry and somehow managed to buy himself a little house on two acres with the $110,000 he got for it. She had dressers FULL of jewelry she called “her investment in the future”. I wish I knew how he sold it. I have only two rings that I need to turn into cash to feed my kids, and all I hear is horror stories about online selling. People buy it, receive it and then say you sold them a piece of junk. Then they send a garbage piece back to you and eBay forces you to give them their money back. There’s no way really to protect yourself. I’m losing my mind. I’m terrified of pawn shops!
Yes, my mom invested in my cousin’s future for sure.
All the consignment shops in my area are gone. Even the jeweler I bought the ring from as an estate piece, doesn’t sell estate jewelry anymore.

Shewho: whats even worse is, your local Bullion dealers will rip you off as well. I had to sell (Oct & Dec 2023) 2 x 20 gram pamp suite gold bars to whom I thought were reputable local dealers. As I watched them secretly scribble down something on paper and repeatedly punch figures on a calculator (which did not make me feel comfortable) I received $1150.00 both months. After mulling over the sale, I called another Bullion dealer whom I had purchases from in the past and gave them the months of both transactions, this dealer would have given me $93.00 + more!

eBay does authentication on any jewelry over $500 and examine your jewelry first then send it onto the customer. So the receiver cannot say it was junk. Also you can do a no return policy.

@@mmurray5805well I purchased something and everything went fine BUT I’ve came across post of people saying the authentication center LOST the jewelry and even claiming fakes have been passed through the “authenticity” process. You have to realize they handle hundreds if not thousands of pieces of jewelry a day some so fakes are gonna slip through the cracks. People have also accused them of switching diamonds. Just because they work at the GIA center doesn’t mean they should be trusted. Read the reviews and you’ll see!

I am retired and have a lot of jewelry. I sell some to a dealer friend I trust. She also takes high-end pieces on commission. I take things she doesn't want and broken pieces to a jeweler who buys it as scrap or repairs and resells. There is a small clothing consignment store that takes the left over pieces and I get very little for the pieces there. Sometimes I sell pieces at flea markets. I find having several different places to sell jewelry to work best for me.

Thank you for your useful videos.
But I still wonder about the steps. If your piece is not insured, how would you trust to take it to shops or leave it for appraisal!

A very helpful video. I am a jewelry maker and am contemplating going the auction route, especially for pieces that I have not made. I get some of my materials from lots of used jewelry. Some pieces I can't use for my own designs and it makes senses to sell them off. Still waiting for the first pieces to go through. It is taking a while. I have not found local listings to be helpful (e.g. Facebook Marketplace) because people just want to haggle. A reputable auction house and bidding wars could help. Anyway, thanks.

In most other countries, they give you face value for your gold not melt value... hands-down the best place I got for my jewelry was in New Jersey.. 99% gold value they gave me .. the state I live in Arizona now. youd be lucky to get 50 % .. so what I just do I send it to my friend that still lives back east and let them sell it... they really scam people in Arizona

Where did my wedding band with diamond end up that was stolen in a looting during the Floyd unrest. As far as I can see, I was the only loser, because the Jeweler more than likely made out on their insurance claim. My 45 year old personalized ring was replaced by the Jeweler, minus the significant value.

This is good. I have a beautiful ring, but it's only worth about 1/4 of what I paid for it because I was paying for the design, not the raw materials. I just didn't know it at the time of purchase.

This was helpful. I inherited a collection of 925 rings most with authentic stones like turquoise. I've listed them online and had people offer as little as $10 a piece which seemed too low for me. I'll probably be taking them to a pawn shop or jewelry shop.

    • @andrewskrinar8579
      @andrewskrinar8579 Год назад +4

Those people that offer unreasonably low price won't even follow through and buy even if you did except their offer. Stay firm with your prices and try things like OfferUp, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, eBay , but now it might be slow and you might need to reposts

Because silver doesn't have much value. A silver ring is probably a couple dollars in scrap value.
