The pin with the lady's head and the hair meets the chin of the lady❤❤❤ I just rescued this pin from a goodwill bag of "junk jewelry" Also, goodwill "junk jewelry or bulk bags" are great place to start inspecting jewelry
The Gold purple amethyst Celtic brooch is Scottish, hence the Celtic knot design. It's 9ct (375) gold which is standard in the UK, the castle means it was assayed (checked) in Edinburgh & the letter K is the date letter, the font & the shape around it tells you the date. I think the date is 1891-92
Around the late 1890s to the 1910s, many pieces of jewelry were produced (mostly hatpins, brooches, and buckles) bearing the mark "Sterling front" or "Sterling top". They are usually in the Art Nouveau style and were probably meant to be less expensive knock-offs of the all-silver pieces by Unger, Kerr, etc. The silver is often relatively thin and the backs are just base metal.
Thank you for your videos! Just recently began watching them...and they are so very helpful! Backstory-I've inherited quite a collection of fine and costume jewelry n a little bit in between from my grandparents. Some that date back to great-great grand's pocket watches. Some items I plan to sell and others to learn more about. This sort of thing can be very intimidating, and overwhelming. However, this year I need to get started. So thank you very much!! Deep gratitude 🙏💜
Something to share with my cousins- 375 is 9 Karat gold, the lowest Karat gold for sale in the UK. In the US, 9 karat gold is considered gold filled, 10 karat gold is the lowest Karat marked gold that can be considered gold and not gold filled.
A scratch plate isn't 100% accurate. If it's plated heavily enough you'll never get to the core metal. I prefer a discrete, small area for absolute certainty & you'll only need the smallest drop of acid
They have to, would you want to pay for an 18k, 35 gram mens chain, that is marked, but fake. A lot of money is lost on fakes. The store should ask you first and explain everything they are going to do. They may test the chain and clasp. Sometimes, they use real clasps on fake chains.
Tanzanite wasn’t discovered until 1967. The brooch with the 2 missing pearls looks older than that so I would also think sapphire. It’s a very beautiful piece.
Hey now, Thank you Rusty for this very informative video, I appreciate the attention to detail and your do's and don'ts tips PS- your nails are just fine
Thank you for a good video. What is the stone. scratch block or magic stone acid gold smoker thingy that the potential gold is scratched on? Have a great week.
At 12:37, the necklace with amber colored stones does appear to have 925 on the claw part of the clasp. I may not be the first to mention it and it is hard to see from the video.
Just curious 14k gold is $36.25 a gram according to Google. My question is can u sale/price your jewerly by that price? If not how do you price your gold/silver items
The woman figure on crescent moon motifs is Selene, Greek godess of fertility, intuitiveness, womanhood in general. Also supposed to promote nice dreams.
I also think that 4 way sterling was maybe a kilt or men's scarf etc. Holder thing. Don't know the tech term. It's gorgeous though. Looks kinda Celtic possible??? Worth a look up.
May we know any organic or natural way/s to clean gold-filled or gold plated metals? There are several brands of commercial metal cleaners but are they guaranteed not to distort jewelry like necklaces, watches, rings, etc. Most grateful for sharing your expertise on fine and custom jewelry. God bless
My mom was a jeweler and has left me a stack of totes filled with nothing but jewelry and jewelry supplies. Doesn’t help that she filled it up with a mix of costume and real. but I have a month to sell it all! She had a gold and silver acid(?) chemical testing kit but they spilt onto each other. 🤦🏻♀️ I don’t know what I’m doing.

The US made that 10% baseline, while odd numbers of carats
Never knew there was a 9 k gold. As in the 1960's all my jewelry was 10k.
@@joycleckley2881 thank goodness the US put their regulations into place.
In Germany they have 8 carat gold as their lowest level sold. I was surprised when i first found it in a bundle of gold i bought.
Thanks 😊
Thanks Rusty for the cautionary tale! I am just blown away that Ebay dinged you so badly for a resin item!
The large silver pin at the 12:03 mark is a sash pin. Women wore them at their waist.
Be careful, folks! Some jewelers actually make a deep scratch in the item to test with acid, rather than using a scratch plate!!! 😮

Great video, always enjoy watching 😊
Very informative video. I thought the 20 years inside a pocket watch was engraved and given to employee for their 20 years of service. LOL

EXACTLY what I was going to comment!
Wonderful, thanks for putting care into this video
Our pleasure!

Wow. That old unmarked right was in amazing condition for being so old. Out of all the jewelry there, I think I'd buy that one just because of that.
Thank you for a good video. What is the stone. scratch block or magic stone acid gold smoker thingy that the potential gold is scratched on? Have a great week.
Thank you for your service on both of these videos on real and costume jewelry. This is very generous and useful information!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much, Rusty, for your time and effort in helping us to help ourselves.

Thanks for the information! I learned about pocket watches!
Any time 😉
Cousin Rusty! This was awesome. Thank you so much.

Re red stone stick pin, how do you know it is a lab created ruby? Does it fluoresce under UV light? Could be other stone like spinel, pink sapphire.
Watched without sound. Still heard your voice. I think I've been watching too many videos 😂 I love learning! Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you!
why would you watch without sound though? How can you know what he is talking about ? That's silly
The elf buckle looking one is actually a sash brooch, made to pin onto a women’s sash at the waist.
Glad you showed the scratch test, have the kit but it didn't say you could double the test solution 1on top of the other, thanks 👍 very informative!
Thank you, very informative and a pleasure to watch😄
Glad you enjoyed it!
Do you have any Tiffany & Co vintage unmarked pieces or did Tiffany mark everything?
Love your voice! Very informative video!
Just a new viewer...thankful to hear the information you share.
The locket at 15:34 with the b&w photo. What is the mark on the inside opposite the photo?
The BACK is the key to most jewelry collectors! Resellers…Please take note - As a collector I HAVE to see the back before I buy 🤗
Just curious 14k gold is $36.25 a gram according to Google. My question is can u sale/price your jewerly by that price? If not how do you price your gold/silver items
good question
Thanks for this informational video, as usual.
Happy hunting!
Thank you for sharing this great information. Learned so much from you!
Glad it was helpful!
Yes!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that talks to inanimate objects and rewards or punishes them. Chain gets to go first cause bracelet is in time out🤣
The woman figure on crescent moon motifs is Selene, Greek godess of fertility, intuitiveness, womanhood in general. Also supposed to promote nice dreams.
I think you have an awesome page keep up the great videos!!😊
Thank you so much!
With the crab claw clasps, the 925 is sometimes on the arm:) also sometimes sterling isnt stamped at all. And therefore i think that was real Amber:)
Love your videos! Do you still have the jade piece? It's reading Christmas gift all over it. LMK, Thanks Rusty!
OMG I’m in love with that big gold and amethyst brooch!! Can you share the link of posted?
I also think that 4 way sterling was maybe a kilt or men's scarf etc. Holder thing. Don't know the tech term. It's gorgeous though. Looks kinda Celtic possible??? Worth a look up.

Appreciate the How To Thank You Will " Watch" again. Dear Rusty, hold the green dragons for me. Ttu about them later. Tu.
The Third one could be for scarves
Is there anything you can use to shine pearls?
Rusty is it difficult to replace a crystal in a ladies broach watch?
Are you selling the Georgian style ring? Would love to purchase it.
Great video thanks!!
I think that swirly piece may be for a scarf
How can you tell it’s a lab created ruby on the stickpin?
I learned a lot.
The third piece is for a scarf
by chance do you know or have any Abu Garcia AMBASSADEUR 5001C ? witha clicker left hand ?

Buy new ones ... For gold is better to test if is 14k or 10k
How much?
Do you sell parts?
Jade vauation?
Mark 585 is 14K gold, cousins.
Tsavorite is more rare form of garnet - green of variety.
So you actually rubbed some of the gold off the pieces of jewelry you tested? You didn't show that part.
Shame the website only covers US manufacturers, it looks good otherwise
Would the jewellery shop owner do the test in front of me 😨?
I have 2 pocket watches that I would like to sell. Do you buy them?
it depends. you can send pics to slickwebmedia@gmail.com

All these are mass production commercial grade jewelry not fine and definitely nothing special
