Talk about total class! The reaction of the corps members in front of the camera guy when BD is announced 2nd.....nothing....no flinch....no movement...then after their score, again....nothing... until they go to attention...You represented your corps and yourself with total class!! Congrats!
I know this is forever ago, but this year marked 10 years since my last season with The Academy (08 and 09). Getting to be in the stands when this happened is one of the highlights of my Drum Corps career. I’ll never forget that moment as long as I live. 3rd from the top row on the Side 1 30 yard line. I went absolutely bananas at 0:31. When they announced “.125,” there were instantly tears streaming down my face and my voice was completely gone. Worth every second.
As a fanatic of "Regiment", I find this 1 minute/42 seconds almost as exhilarating as the actually performance. I have never heard a crowd response for a winner like that before. Being there that night...it was loud but...I was not down on the field to feel the thunder coming from the stands. I lost my voice that night and think, possibly, I will never have an experience such as that again. Phantom Regiment, I could not be more pleased!
It's amazing to see how stoic these kid's are at their own victory. Phantom is a absolute class act, one of the reasons I'm such a huge phan. A big SUTA to you Phantom (Hope to know what that means one day)
Wow, very impressive. To stand there as they announce the scores and have that kind of crowd response and not pass out, PERFESSIONAL!!CLASS ACT!! I would kill to be apart of that...
Why do people say Regiment won to save DCI and the corps itself from bankruptcy? They deserved it. They are easily the hardest working corps in all of DCI. BD wins, but have you seen their daily schedule? They don't even wake up until 10. Phantom and most every other corps is up at at least 7 and marching by 9. If anyone deserves wins, it's phantom. Trust me, they have been through more crap than any other corps in DCI history because people cannot accept what they do and how stunning it is.
@cantgetenoughcorps Can you not just be happy for a corps that has never in its history won its OWN World Championship until 2008? Why must there be speculation? The corps in the silver and bronze slots have won ALL BUT ONE of the championships in the current decade. Regardless of who deserved the top slot, have some respect for a corps that persevered and broke into the winner's circle. Calling their endeavors "pathetic" would not be done by someone with a TRUE respect for the activity.
Not only did Phantom deserve to win but they deserved at least a 2 point spread! That absurd shit was just that... Cavies and Crown should have been 2nd and 3rd...
Having been 2nd by .1 (1984), I can confirm I felt like absolute shit when Garfield's score was announced....I spent the next few months wondering what I did wrong to cost us the show (since BD was my first and only Jr corps....I hadn't even marched corps STYLE before!....it was a steeeep learning curve).
So glad PR won that title. BD are so over-rated. Cavies need to find a new angle because their tricks on the field just aren't doing it for the judges anymore.
@cantgetenoughcorps Oh man, I just realized you're a kid! LOL! You definitely look like you've never marched, and certainly never judged. Seriously, go to this guy's channel. God, that's hilarious
@cantgetenoughcorps and you can "prove" this how? Other corps have gone away that were just as vital. How's this for reality, they kept PR around just so they could beat on them the next year. Either scenario is stupid, and since DCI IS the corps, I highly doubt all the corps got together and said, "hey we can't lose the Regiment. We'll let them win this year just to keep them around a little while longer." How moronic!
+Tiger Jingles You understand this was Phantom's first time winning that wasn't a tie, right? Not to mention the years following 2008, they were steadily rising, from 3rd to 2nd, to 2nd again, then finally to 1st. Phantom just could not contain themselves after hearing that they were finally champions. Especially the vets and age-outs that had been there to see Phantom grow to championship. Their emotions just took over. As for the crowd, the results were so eagerly anticipated, they couldn't contain it either.
The GREATEST moment in the history of DCI.
"And with a score of 98.125"
idk if i woulda been able to stand perfectly still after hearing a crowd reaction like that.
Go Phantom.

Glad to see a drum corps that stay at attention during retreat and doesn't move in response to others' scores. Only a few still do that. :)

Half the crowd was cheering Phantom won, half was cheering because Blue Devils lost.
I aged out of Blue Stars in 08. Couldn't believe the crowd reaction from field level when this was announced.
Oh how I would've given anything to be with phantom this summer....
It's amazing to see how stoic these kid's are at their own victory. Phantom is a absolute class act, one of the reasons I'm such a huge phan.

Thank you for posting this. The crowd response just blows my mind to this day.
This video needs to be in the National Archives
You'll never find out until you march Phantom.

The cadets and SCV would like to have a word with you
That's just flipping amazing!!!
i cant imagine what that felt like....
hey thats me! (the middle one)...sweet :D
ice water in their veins......warm heart, cold mind
@domn1c well they haven't been out of the top 5 in how many years?
What happened to the audio?
Class!!
@cantgetenoughcorps It hurt my brain to read what you wrote. When was your last CAT-scan?
Wow, full body chills. This is a religious experience watching this video, and I'm an atheist. :D
@jdavis57 not sure how to take your comment.....They deserved this for such a long time
Because of drumline

holy cow...everyone goes wild. lololololol
At this time the Cavies were laughin their asses off.
that's a true corps. not a single happy movement throughout.
lol some of them were laying on the ground acting like they were dead XD
I think the Cavies really hate BD
They should just announce the Gold medal first so not everybody makes the 2nd place group feel horrible before naming the actual gold winners
+Chris McKenzie I think it should go last to first. This way, the results are more eagerly anticipated. It keeps people on the edges of their seats.

you hear that crowd roaring blue devils? havent heard a crowd do that for you in a long ass time.

Every corps culture is different. We had no such reservations in BD when I marched.
Because, "deserving" means nothing in this acrivity.
