Thanks for sharing this.... This was just a couple of months after I saw The Who for the first time! Infact... They are all even wearing the same clothes I saw them singing in when they were in Denver Colorado USA!
I'm here doing research for a book in a series ("Rock & Roll Nightmares") and it's good to see Roger crediting Bill Curbishley with the smartest decision that could have been made under such unimaginable pressure. My heart goes out to everyone involved.
1989 was ALOT better ! But Being a Limo Chauffeur ( my 1st yr in 79') I had them when they came to CHICAGO in 79' & 89' and took them around town prior to their doing their concert and Told them Their Fare and Any Gratuity would be donated to the American Tinitus Assoc( Bill Shatner - of Star Trek-President) They gave me $5,000 Tip and I informed mr. Shatner and he Gave them a Reciept and Autograph in person when they were in LA a Month Later...
Kenney looks great here, and you've got admit does a good job. Townshend looks lost, he's off point - rare for him, Daltrey really gives it everything.
I'm sure it was really hard for him on that tour, there is footage of him, I wanna say Chicago, where he looks at Kenny and looks lost. I would have gotten blitzed before playing too having lost a friend and one of the best drummers in rock (side by side with John Bonham.)
Pete didn't feel anything about Moon's death, according to his autobiography. Daltrey was extremely sad, but he didn't shed a single tear. Or so he says.
I think the problem with Kenney is he is a time keeper. For The Who, Pete is the Time Keeper. Keith kept the beat but he played in fills like the drums was another instrument in the band. They needed a Jazz Drummer.
Everyone talks about Bonzo but nobody talks about Keith Moon. They’re like en par with each other skill wise, drummers for the 2 biggest and best bands of the 70s, and even died within a year of each other at about 30-32 ish. Both icons gone too soon.
Daltrey didnt like him... I guess only Townshend liked him because he and Kenney played together before this. Well, it's not a surprise that he only played with The Who for, like, 5 years? I don't dislike him, though. Moon was perfect for The Who. No man would be able to substitute, and there are performances in which Kenney is great.
They never played this song very good live, but this is beyond good and evil. But I`m glad to see taht even high-talented bands like The Who have their low points. Pete looks like his own death mask here...
Im so glad Roger admitted dear Kenny was a mistake coz I been arguing that since Mooney passed away...no one did realize wot a loss he was...even Zep did a slightly better replacement but ONLY just....God bless ya Keith

Kenney has headphones and is either playing to a backing track or listening to the band. Kenney is on point and his fills are solid. Pete was the one who messed it up. He was absolutely loaded.
It's not that I don't know how historic the Who is, but this is awful. Really poor. The drummer can't keep up to the end of his fills- he falls behind; and the keyboard player missed coming in on time.

Awsome video! A very hard time in Pete's life!!
I was 2 years old

One of the greatest songs by the Who.
I saw them in Paris, May of 1979. 2 1/2 hours with the encore. Fantastic show.
I'm here doing research for a book in a series ("Rock & Roll Nightmares") and it's good to see Roger crediting Bill Curbishley with the smartest decision that could have been made under such unimaginable pressure. My heart goes out to everyone involved.
they were so good, this is when they had an actual keyboardist and it was wonderful

My pet owl loves this song

I don't know if I agree with you about Townshend but this was during his heavy cocaine days

whats with all the hate? this is vintage Who, absolutely nothing wrong with it
Not the same drummer
@@thebeef1236 Guy from the small faces - also great drummer

Daltrey is in great voice here. Townshend appears loaded. Not enough shots of john, though.
keymaster 88 shut your complaining ass up bitch
There are never enough shots of john
@@herpaderp-bp4pe townshend wrote this song- why would you think he was over rated ?
whoever says its kennys fault here obviously wasn't listening to the song.
Very hard times for Kenny .he never asked for it.Keith passing was hard on the band. But Kenny was very underrated.
which they would release some of the great concerts
I think the problem with Kenney is he is a time keeper. For The Who, Pete is the Time Keeper. Keith kept the beat but he played in fills like the drums was another instrument in the band. They needed a Jazz Drummer.
Spot on except that John was the timekeeper, and not Pete. Pete held the song together with chords.

bonzo
Moon
Peart
In that order dont @ me
@@elimorrison1269 I agree 100% sir those are three monuments I will never debate with anyone! Rock on sir
Not too long after Keith's death. I got to see them on the 4th of July a week after John died. I know it was tough for them to carry on.
Rabbit screwed it up, he started the last piano fill too late. Kenny had it but everyone else was following Rabbit.
That's it exactly. I listened again. Piano came in too soon.
I mean too late and also sounds like the piano notes were off for a bit there.
Daltrey didnt like him... I guess only Townshend liked him because he and Kenney played together before this. Well, it's not a surprise that he only played with The Who for, like, 5 years? I always liked Kenny Jones. Remember he played with the great Steve Marriott in Small Faces.
that was pretty painful..... Kenny had the headphones and was listening to the backing track so it was Pete / John or Rabbit who f**ked that up
Yeah, but Kenney seemed to miss some fills in there. He should be keeping the song moving forward. He seemed lost.
Rabbit fucked up at 3:44 by missing the piano cue.
But what about the OX?
4.47 John is like "this performance is going to shit, fuck this I'm turning up my bass"
🎉

Come back Keith
3:45
Rabbit mistake☺️
Not great, to put it mildly, but Kenney certainly doesn't deserve all the blame!
Kenney is supposed to be following the song with his headphones so why did he miss fills?
@@willt65 he didn't miss, the problem was that the keyboard failed to start properly at 3:44 and that broke the song
The 80's are coming
Ugly clothes ugly haircuts ugly music
good bands becaming ugly...and the who where not the exception
high as a kite
Without moon, the rhythm of the drum was temporarily much weaker
That bridge change was really off.
Not perfect but I’d love to have been there.
Cocaine is a helluva drug
The middle was rough but meh

Haha Pete is smashed.
no slip tyl hammersniff v v
Jesus Christ on a motorbike. This was BAD!
Alexander Wolle everyone in the band weren't functioning like humaning beings at this point after Keith's death

this is a train wreck now i see why they hated kenny
this was aweful... Kenney jones is terrible, Zach Starkey re lit this band,,
scott tracey Ha, good one. Ringo Jr isn't even half as good as Kenney.

@@Prisha-so6rm Rabbit missed his piano cue at 3:44 too.
Agreed Kenney was good for Small Faces and Faces but definitely not The Who
ahh but zak starkey wasn't around then to do touring so comment means nothing
